HAMILTON: Pakistan’s spinner Nida Dar took four wickets before the left-handed opener Muneeba Ali scored an important 37 runs in the run chase to propel green shirts to their first triumph in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2022, here on Monday.

Pakistan’s captain Bismah Maroof won the toss and put West Indies in to bat in a rain-affected match.

Her bowlers did not let her down as they restricted West Indies to 89/7 in the allotted 20 overs. Nida shone with the ball as she took four wickets for a mere 10 runs in her exceptional spell.

Fatima Sana, Nashra Sandhu, and Omaima Sohail, on the other hand, managed to strike out a batter each to further push the opposition at the back foot.

For West Indies, the opening batter Deandra Dottin fought hard with her 27 off 35 balls, while the rest of the batters remained unable to contribute significantly.

Set to chase a paltry 90 in 20 overs, Pakistan fumbled a bit in the run chase as the side lost their opener, Sidra Ameen, for a combined score of 22. Sidra faced 15 deliveries and managed to score eight.

Following her dismissal, the skipper Bismah and the young opener Muneeba then put on an important 35-runs partnership for the second wicket before the latter made her way back in the 13th over. Muneeba faced 43 balls and score 37 runs with the help of five boundaries.

The all-rounder Omaima then joined her skipper in the middle and put on a match-winning 33-runs partnership to power the side to victory in the 19th over. Bismah scored an unbeaten 20, while Omaima remained not-out for 22 off 27 balls.

For West Indies, Afy Fletcher and Shakera Salman managed to make one scalp each.

KARACHI: The last five members of the COVID hit West Indian squad, left for their home after returning negative.

West Indian captain, Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, and Justin Greaves are among the players, who left for their country. Assistant coach, Roddy Estwick and the physician are also flying back with the players.

Four of the nine members had already returned home on December 20 after curing from the virus.

Nine members of the touring squad, sent to the quarantine after contracting the deadly virus.

It is apropos to mention here that the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies, postponed after the spread of the virus in the playing members.

KARACHI: Following the postponement of the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies over COVID-19 spread, the West Indian squad left Pakistan for Dubai.

The squad left earlier this morning; will be travelling back to West Indies via Dubai. Only those members, who returned COVID-19 negative, flew back to their homeland.

Contracted members will complete their isolation period in the same hotel, and will fly back once they return negative.

In the T20I series, Pakistan whitewashed the touring nation; defeating the West Indies by seven wickets in the third T20I.

The postponed ODI series will reschedule in June, next year.

KARACHI: Following the postponement of the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies over COVID-19 spread, the Pakistan’s squad will begin to leave the hotel from tomorrow.

The Pakistan’s players will make an early exit from the bio-secure bubble; after the series postponement.

Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammd Wasim Jnr, Shahnawaz Dahani and Haider Ali will stay in Karachi; as the players will play the final round of the on-going Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

In the T20I series, Pakistan whitewashed the touring nation; defeating the West Indies by seven wickets in the third T20I.

LAHORE: Following the cancellation of the Pakistan-West Indies ODI series, the schedule for the refunding of the tickets, announce soon.

Omar Shahid, Chief Communication Officer of an online ticket selling company said the company will issue the refunding schedule for the tickets of ODI series, on the direction of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

He also shared the possibility of usage of the same tickets in the rescheduled series.

“ODI tickets will also be usable in the rescheduling series,” he said.

“Those who wish to return the ticket will receive a refund in three to four days,” he added.

Mr. Omar also said that those who have purchased tickets will have to show their original ID card, while refunding.

KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s COO Salman Naseer admitted flaws in marketing strategy to promote Pakistan vs West Indies tour. 

Speaking to media while addressing PAKvsWI – ODI series postponement matter, Salman said there is always a room for improvement.

“Yes, we lacked in marketing this tour. There is always a room for improvement and we are looking into this,” he admitted.

To a query about difficulties faced by fans to buy tickets and enter the stadium, Salman said they will plan for improvement. “I have surveyed myself and experienced what issues people were facing. Yes, it was hectic for fans to go through checking process. Also, I have heard about difficulties for fans to buy tickets online. We will plan to address this issue,” he responded.

Earlier, this correspondent talked to fans outside stadium who complaint about online tickets sale. So many of them were even unaware of online sale of the tickets.

KARACHI: Various records tumbled during the third T20I between Pakistan and West Indies; the Green Shirts defeated the West Indies by seven wickets.

Pakistan’s in-form batter, Mohammad Rizwan, became the first batter in the history to score 2000 runs in a calendar year in T20s. The batter finished the year 2021, with 2036 runs under his belt. Babar Azam, on the other hand, scored the second most runs this year, with 1779.

Babar and Rizwan, as a pair too, were splendid. The batters bagged two astonishing records, batting together. The duo became the first batting pair in T20Is to put on six century stands.

Whereas, Babar and Rizwan, also recorded the highest runs this year, in terms of partnership, with an extraordinary 1647 runs.

In the third T20I against West Indies, Pakistan recorded their highest successful run chase in T20Is; chasing 208 runs. Pakistan’s 208 was also the highest T20I total scored at National Stadium Karachi.

KARACHI: Pakistan vs West Indies – ODI series has been postponed after five more COVID-19 cases were detected in touring party’s camp on Thursday. 

In a joint statement released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the two boards agreed on postponing the ODI series till early 2022.

The decision was taken in a long online meeting between the high-ups of the two boards, considering the health, safety and availability of the players.

As many as six players, three officials of West Indies were tested COVID-19 positive. Players include Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, Justin Greaves, Roston Chase, Sheldon Cottrell, and Kyle Mayers. Assistant Coach Roddy Estwick, Team Physician Dr Akshai Mansingh and a non-coaching staff member were also tested positive for the widely spread virus.

West Indies team, except the COVID-19 positive members, will leave Pakistan tonight. The Green Shirts will also exit bio-secure bubble after the third T20I, currently underway here at National Stadium.

Remember, the three ODIs were part of ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. Pakistan had already won the T20I series.

KARACHI: Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan scored match-winning opening partnership of 158 runs to help Pakistan complete whitewash against West Indies in T20I series here at National Stadium. 

Set to chase highest-ever total at National Stadium, Pakistani openers continued their solid form of this year and smashed unbeaten 158 runs.

Rizwan smashed 87 runs off 45 balls including 10 boundaries and three sixes whereas Babar made 79 laced with nine boundaries and two sixes.

In the end, Asif smashed 21 off seven balls to hand convincing victory to Pakistan. He struck two boundaries and as many sixes.

For West Indies, Romario Shepherd, Odean Smith and Dominic Drakes shared a wicket apiece.

Earlier, West Indian batters took complete hold over Pakistani bowlers as they smashed highest-ever T20I total (207-3) of National Stadium.

After deciding to bat first, West Indian openers provided a solid start to their team with 66-run opening stand. Brandon King (43) and Shamarh Brooks (49) played solid shots all around the park.

Later on, skipper Nicholas Pooran smashed 64 runs off 37 balls including two boundaries and six maximums to help West Indies put up highest T20I total at National Stadium.

Darren Bravo remained not out for 34 including three boundaries.

For Pakistan, Mohammad Wasim Jr bagged two wickets while Shahnawaz Dahani took a wicket.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Windies Cricket held a long online meeting after five more COVID-19 cases were detected in the touring party’s camp. Three players (Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein and Justin Greaves) alongside Assistant Coach Roddy Estwick, and Team Physician Dr Akshai Mansingh returned COVID-19 positive.

PCB gave green signal to the teams to reach National Stadium to play third T20I of the series. Meanwhile, the decision on ODI series will be announced in a press conference, scheduled in a short while here at National Stadium.

Earlier before the T20I series, three players (Roston Chase, Sheldon Cottrell, and Kyle Mayers) alongside a non-coaching member of the team were tested COVID-19 positive.

Remember, Pakistan has already won the T20I series 2-0. Both teams are scheduled to play three ODIs on December 18, 20, 22, respectively.
