Pakistan women’s team kicks off training for Asian Games 2023

HANGZHOU: Pakistan women’s cricket team on Tuesday, began their preparations to participate in the upcoming Asian Games 2023, scheduled to commence on September 28.

According to the details, the Pakistan Women’s cricket team conducted a robust training session at Zhejiang University of Technology Cricket field here.

The national players were engaged in rigorous fielding drills and also participated in the net sessions.

Pakistan Women’s team will start their Asian Games 2023 campaign in the quarter-final on September 21.

Pakistan last participated in in 2010 and 2014 Asian Games and returned with the gold in each edition

The national women’s team recently locked horns with South Africa in a three-match each ODI and T20I series.

The hosts whitewashed South Africa in the T20I series whereas the visitors claimed the ODI series 2-1.

South Africa were leading the ODI series before Pakistan made a remarkable comeback to avoid clean sweep.

Set to chase a modest 186, Pakistan women’s team comfortably completed the run chase for the loss of just two wickets and 72 balls to spare, courtesy of a brilliant partnership between Sidra Ameen and Bismah Maroof.

The hosts, however, had a contrasting start to their innings as they lost young opener Sadaf Shamas (13) in the 10th over with 39 runs on the board.

Following the early blow, Sidra Ameen was joined by experienced Bismah at the crease and the pair anchored the run chase with a match-winning partnership.

Bismah and Sidra added 110 runs for the second wicket with both scoring half-centuries.

The pair dominated the South African bowlers before Sidra faltered against Nadine de Klerk in the 33rd over when Pakistan still needed 27 runs.

Sidra Ameen top-scored for Pakistan in the third PAKW vs SAW ODI with an 82-ball 68 which featured six boundaries.

Bismah, on the other hand, stood her ground firm and with a helping hand from Aliya Riaz (19*) steered the Pakistan women’s team to a dominating victory.

Bismah remained unbeaten on 60 off 98 deliveries, hitting five boundaries.

Pakistan women’s team departs for Asian Games 2023

LAHORE: Pakistan women’s cricket team on Saturday, departed for China to participate in the upcoming Asian Games 2023, scheduled to commence on September 28.

The Asian Games 2023 will run from September 19 to October 8, 2023 in Hangzhou.

The 15-day-long continental event, shifted from 2022 to 2023 due to COVID-19, will feature 40 sports this year.

The Nida Dar-led national team departed from here on Friday evening for Hangzhou via Doha, Qatar.

Pakistan Women’s skills camp to kick off from Wednesday

Pakistan women’s team cricketers will attend the skills camp scheduled to take place in Lahore and Karachi from 5 to 17 July, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Tuesday.

The first phase of the skills camp will take place at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore from 5 to 9 July where 20 players from Lahore and adjoining areas, will take part, providing them with a platform to showcase their skills and abilities.

Following the completion of the five-day Lahore leg, the focus will shift to Karachi as Hanif Muhammad High-Performance Centre will be the venue for the camp from 13 to 17 July. The players for the Karachi camp will be announced in due course.

The women’s skills camp will feature a series of intensive training sessions, led by the Pakistan women’s team support staff.

Players will have the opportunity to sharpen their skills, receive valuable guidance, and exhibit their capabilities through various practice matches and scenarios.

The selectors and coaching staff will closely evaluate the participants to identify those who display exceptional talent, technical proficiency, and a competitive spirit.

Earlier on Tuesday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that Pakistan’s women’s team will tour England for a three-match each ODI and T20I series, scheduled to take place from May 11 to 19.

Pakistan to face India on Feb 12 in Women’s T20 World Cup 2023

DUBAI: Pakistan will be locking horns with the arch-rivals India on February 12 at Cape Town as International Cricket Council announced the fixtures for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa. 

The eighth edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will begin on 10 February 2023 featuring 10 teams divided into two groups.

Pakistan and India are placed in Group B along with West Indies, England and Ireland. Meanwhile, Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Bangladesh are drawn in Group A.

Pakistan will start its T20 World Cup campaign with the blockbuster clash against arch-rivals followed by the matches against Ireland, West Indies and England on February 15, 19 and 21, respectively.

The top two teams in each group at the end of the group stage play the semi-finals slated on February 23 and 24.

The final of the mega-event will be staged at Cape Town on 26 February 2023 with a reserve day available on the 27th in case the match gets postponed on the designated date.

Pakistan outclass Bangladesh to secure second win in Women’s Asia Cup

SYLHET: Bowlers stormed through Bangladesh’s batting line before Sidra Ameen powered Pakistan to a comprehensive nine-wickets win in the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 on Monday.

The national women’s team started the tournament on a high note as they bagged back-to-back victories on consecutive days.

Batting first, on the invitation of Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof, the Bangladesh batting line-up failed completely and managed to amass a paltry 70/8 in the allotted 20 overs.

Salma Khatun fought hard with a gritty knock of 24 not-out off 29 deliveries with the help of two boundaries amid a dismal batting show as seven of Bangladesh’s batters were dismissed without entering double figures.

Skipper Niger Sultana managed 17 off 30 after Diana Baig and Nida Dar wreaked havoc on top order and reduced the hosts to 3/3 in the fifth over.

For Pakistan, Dar and Diana bagged two wickets each while Omaima Sohail and Sadia Iqbal took a scalp apiece.

Set to chase a paltry total of 71, Pakistan’s opening pair of Muneeba Ali and Sidra Ameen gave their side a solid start as they amassed 49 runs at a rapid pace.

Salma then struck in the eighth over to break the strong partnership as she castled Muneeba after she scored 14 off 19.

Skipper Bismah then joined Sidra at the crease and took Pakistan to their second triumph of the ongoing Asia Cup as they chased down the target in the thirteenth over with nine wickets to spare.

Sidra top-scored for the side with an unbeaten 36 off 35 deliveries, laced with four boundaries, while Bismah scored a run-a-ball eight not-out.

Earlier, Pakistan beat Malaysia by nine wickets on Sunday to secure their first win of Women’s Asia Cup 2022.

Pakistan will now lock horns with Thailand on Thursday before facing arch-rivals India on Friday.

Fatima Sana out of Women’s T20 Asia Cup with ankle injury

LAHORE: Fast bowler Fatima Sana has been ruled out of the national squad for ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup, scheduled in Bangladesh from October 1,  after she twisted her ankle during the Caribbean Premier League.  

According to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the right-arm pacer has been advised four-week rest by the PCB medical board and her replacement will be announced in due course.

Fatima had also missed out on the first phase of the team’s preparation camp for the Asia Cup held in Lahore from August 30 to September 2. She was representing Barbados Royal in the CPL.

Pakistan squad, however, will undergo a 10-day camp commencing tomorrow at Lahore Country Club, Muridke. The national side will depart for Bangladesh on September 28.

Javeria responds to trolls aimed at women cricketers for CWG debacle

BIRMINGHAM: National cricketer Javeria Khan lashed out at trollers for slamming women players and hurling derogatory criticism over the players’ private lives following the women’s team’s unsuccessful journey at the Commonwealth Games.

Javeria shared a message on Thursday on his Twitter account in response to widespread trolling and censuring of the women’s cricket team on social media.

“Those who do not follow women’s cricket in Pakistan consider it their inalienable right to slam the player if they underperform,” read the message that she shared on her Twitter.

The 34-year-old opined that while constructive criticism was always welcome but resorting to vile comments and attacking players’ private lives was outrageous and unwarranted.

“Teams, athletes and systems do not grow overnight. This is an evolutionary process that takes time. Women’s team needs your support and constructive criticism,” her message concluded.

The top-order batter is not a part of team’s squad for the Commonwealth Games.

It is pertinent to mention here that the national women’s side lost all three matches during the ongoing event to sit at the bottom of their group standings.

Sri Lanka women team departs after historic Pakistan tour

KARACHI: Sri Lanka women’s cricket team boarded for the country early in the morning from Jinnah International Airport, concluding a historic tour of Pakistan after 17 years as the team played the ODI and T20 series against the Green shirts. 

The tour marked the first bilateral series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka women’s teams on Pakistani soil.

Pakistan has whitewashed the touring side 3-0 in the T20 series, followed by a 2-1 victory in the three-match ODI series.

The ODI series was part of the ICC women’s championship and the series victory enabled Pakistan women’s team to top the table with four points.

Pakistan’s squad reaches New Zealand for ICC Women’s World Cup

CHRISTCHURCH: Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup has arrived in the country to participate in the mega event, set to kick off on March 4.

The world cup bound squad after landing in the country will undergo a mandatory 10-day isolation period and will then be able to participate in the practice sessions.

Pakistan’s women team will start their world cup campaign against the arch-rival India on March 6 at Bay Oval. The green shirts will play seven matches against the remaining teams.

The top four teams from the group of eight participants will then qualify for the Semi-finals.
