Players to get vaccine booster shots: PCB

LAHORE: In light of the present COVID-19 scenario, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), decided to provide vaccination boosters to players.

The National Cricket Team’s players, as well as members of the support personnel, will receive Pfizer vaccine boosters.

National players and officials will get the booster shots in the first phase tomorrow at the National High-Performance Center.

Whereas, women cricketers and support staff had already received Pfizer vaccine boosters.

National Assembly’s standing committee questions Ramiz Raja’s absence

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) presented the salary details of the top officials in the meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination, here on Wednesday.

The committee expressed its displeasure with the PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja’s non-participation in a meeting presided over by the committee chairman, Malik Nawab Sher Waseer. According to PCB officials, Ramiz could not attend the session following his meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah over the Pakistan Super League (PSL) preparations.

The PCB officials then presented the income details of the senior officials of the cricket board. The officials also told the committee that the former PCB CEO was receiving 2.6 million rupees each month.

According to PCB,  Pakistan cricket team physiotherapist Cliffe Deacon’s salary is 2.1 million, Director High-Performance Muhammad Nadeem Khan receiving 1.315 million, Head of International Players Development Saqalain Mushtaq 1.277 million, CEO PCB Salman Naseer 1.245 million, Chief Financial Officer Javed Murtaza 1.24 million, while Chairman Selection Committee Mohammad Wasim receives 1 million rupees each month.

PCB officials also revealed the earnings of other officers who earn around half a million rupees.

Committee member, Iqbal Muhammad Ali Khan said that the issues regarding the audit of the PCB could not be resolved.

“The audit of the PCB could not be addressed. If the audit issues remained unsolved, the case will be referred to the FIA,” he said.

KARACHI: Former Test cricketer Tauseef Ahmed believes that a foreign coach is a better option for the Pakistan team moving forward. 

In a video interview with ARY News, Tauseef put weight on Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja’s idea to bring a foreign coach.

“I personally believe that a foreign coach is better for Pakistan team and Ramiz thinks right to bring an overseas coach,” he said.

“If you look at our records, a foreign coach has always benefitted Pakistan. He doesn’t bring something out of this world but just an approach to mind his own business. He doesn’t interrupt much apart from cricket and that makes him successful,” he added.

Tauseef accepted that local coaches do angling and take favor that’s why their respect is lesser than a foreigner. “There is no doubt that a local coach does angling and takes favor. That’s you can see a local coach getting lesser respect than a foreigner,” he concluded.

It must be noted here that Ramiz has reportedly consulted captain Babar Azam and interim head coach Saqlain Mushtaq to appoint a regular coach for the national team. Reports also claim that Saqlain has refused to continue with the team for longer run.

PCB to appoint foreign head coach after Mushtaq’s contract ends

LAHORE: Interim head coach of Pakistan Cricket Team – Saqlain Mushtaq is all set to resign, as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) eyes to appoint a foreigner for future series.

As per the sources, Chairman PCB, Ramiz Raja consulted Mushtaq for the appointment of a new coach. Chairman PCB also sought the opinion of Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam regarding the recruitment.

Mushtaq is currently serving as International Development Coach at the High-Performance Center. He is also a favourite for the cricket team’s mentor, according to sources.

Mushtaq was the interim head coach for the home series against the West Indies. His tenure as a head coach came to an end at the conclusion of the series.

‘Best cricket infrastructure will be my priority in 2022’ PCB chairman

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s chairman Ramiz Raja shared his visions for 2022 while bidding farewell to 2021. 

In an interview released by PCB media, the head of Pakistan’s cricket assured strong infrastructure for the game in the country.

“My aim in 2022 will be to provide best cricket infrastructure to this country,” Ramiz said. “2022 is a big year for all of us as cricket fans. A lot challenges we have to deal with and I am really looking forward to it,” he maintained.

While talking about junior level cricket, Ramiz once again emphasized its importance. “My focus is to lift cricket at the junior level because they are the asset of our system. If we provide them ample opportunities, stars will come out of them. That’s why I have decided to make a pool of junior players and given them monthly stipend. It will help us a lot moving forward,” he explained.

Islamabad Stadium

“We are going to built a state-of-the-art stadium in Islamabad with a quality high-performance center. This stadium will facilitate us in First-Class and international matches,” he briefed.

PSL Broadcasting Rights

Ramiz was happy with the increased value of Pakistan Super League (PSL) broadcasting rights and live streaming rights.

“Our brand PSL value has increased worldwide. I am happy to see rapid rise in the value of PSL media rights that sold out in record amount,” he concluded.

Sindh Schools Cricket League to kickoff in February: PCB

KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) joint hands with the Sindh Government to launch Schools Cricket League in the province.

As per the reports, the PCB, set to launch the league in February, in which a total of 3850 players will be participating.

Initially, 239 matches will be played in the first phase of the league. The matches will be held in 30 different regions of the province.

With the end of the first phase, the best 30 teams will then compete in 24 matches. Out of which, the top six teams will then participate in the Sindh Championship.

Abid Ali starts rehabilitation process: PCB

KARACHI: Test cricketer Abid Ali has shown immense improvement after angioplasty and started the rehabilitation process. 

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Abid has started rehabilitation at a local hospital here.

“As part of his [Abid Ali] rehabilitation process, he did light walking in the morning without showing any discomfort. He will continue his rehab in the hospital until he is discharged early next week,” PCB stated.

It must be noted here that Abid complaint of chest pain during the Central Punjab (CP)’s contest against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). He was batting at 61 when he complained of chest pain and later taken to the hospital.

He was diagnosed with Acute Coronary Syndrome and went through angioplasty.

‘There is no need of Drop-In pitches in Pakistan’ Javed Miandad

KARACHI: Former Test captain Javed Miandad thinks that there is no need of Drop-In pitches in Pakistan as the country has natural wickets. 

Speaking to media on the sidelines of a local event here on Saturday, Miandad shared his opinion on Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s chairman Ramiz Raja’s influence on introducing Drop-In pitches.

“I think there is no need of Drop-In pitches in Pakistan. If you know, Drop-In pitches were introduced by Kerry Pecker because he wasn’t given proper ground,” he said.

“Pakistan have proper grounds and wickets so why is there any need of Drop-In Pitches. I think PCB should rethink this and invest in our own wickets. Because on the same wickets, players like me and other greats played for years,” he added.

It must be noted here that PCB chairman announced to bring 2 Drop-In pitches worth 37 crores in Pakistan with the help of a sponsor. One pitch will be installed in Karachi and the other in Lahore.

According to Raja’s vision, these pitches will help Pakistani players’ preparations for playing Australian and New Zealand conditions.

PCB to appoint five new coaches

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released an official advertisement for the appointment of five different coaches; power hitting coach included for the first time.

In the official advertisement, PCB offered five different coaching positions for the national cricket team, which includes high-performance coach, batting coach, bowling coach, fielding coach, and power-hitting coach.

In the advertisement, the cricket board wrote that it is seeking applications from ‘dynamic individuals’.

The last date of submission of applications for the above mentioned positions is January 17, 2022.

PCB invites students for third PAKvsWI T20I: Reports

KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) invited students from colleges and universities to watch the third T20I between Pakistan and West Indies, according to reports.

As per sources, the PCB has taken the initiative to bring the students to the stadium, given the low turnout of the crowd in the ongoing series.

In the three-match T20I series, Pakistan have taken the 2-0 lead, defeating their opposition in the first two matches.

In the first two matches, the stadium drew minimal crowd.

The teams will lock horns in the third T20I, today.
