CAPE TOWN: Will Jacks continued his dazzling form as he smashed his third fifty in the SA20 before Anrich Nortje and Wayne Parnell ran through the MI Cape Town’s batting to steer Pretoria Capitals to a commanding 52-run win on Monday.

Jacks played an astounding knock of 27-ball 52, laced with five fours and as many sixes to help Capitals reach a mammoth total of 182/8 after they were put into bat.

Cape Town, in reply, were bundled out for 130 runs thanks to an all-round bowling display by Capitals’ bowlers as they grabbed the last eight wickets for the addition of a mere 29 runs.

With a dominant win, Pretoria Capitals earned a bonus point which extended their lead at the top, six points ahead of second-placed Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

Parnell and Nortje picked three wickets each while Adil Rashid took two as they jolted MI Cape Town’s batting lineup, who looked in complete command till the 13th over of the chase.

GQEBERHA: Roelof van der Merwe wreaked havoc on Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) as he bagged a six-wicket haul to help Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) seal a massive victory by 124 runs in the SA20 on Sunday.

Sunrisers outclassed the Super Giants in every sphere to claim their first bonus of the season as they bundled out the opposition for a paltry 86 after posting a mammoth 210/2 on the board.

Adam Rossington and Jordan Hermann led the batting assault for SEC as they stitched an outstanding 101-run opening partnership before skipper Aiden Markram and Tristan Stubbs built on the leverage.

Rossington made a phenomenal 72 from 30 balls, smashing 10 fours and four sixes before he was run out in the 9th over. Hermann and Markram then gathered another 68 runs for the second wicket before Dwaine Pretorius dismissed the former on 59 in the 17th over.

Stubbs and Markram, however, scored 27 off 13 and 44 off 34, respectively to put Sunrises in command before their bowlers did an extraordinary job.

Super Giants, in reply, went through a deplorable batting collapse with seven of their batters failing to make it into double figures.

Dutch spinner van der Merwe became the star of the night as he stormed through the DSG batting lineup in the middle overs.

The left-armer struck back-to-back wickets, dismissing Henrich Klassen and skipper Quinton de Kock on consecutive deliveries in the 7th over before hunting another two, Jason Holder and opener Kyle Mayers in the 9th over.

He completed his five-wicket haul in his next over when he removed Pretorius cheaply while his sixth came only 14 balls later when he bowled out number 10 Prenelan Subrayen.

Apart from der Merwe’s exceptional bowling figures of 6 for 20, JJ Smuts, Markram, Marco Jansen and Mason Crane also took a scalp each to knock out the opposition in just 14.4 overs.

Plooy propels Super Kings to thrilling win over Sunrisers in SA20

GQEBERHA: Leus du Plooy held his nerves strong to steer Joburg Super Kings to a thrilling five-wicket win over Sunrisers Eastern Cape in a low-scoring SA20 game, here on Saturday.

Batting at number 4, Plooy made an unbeaten 47 from 40 balls and sailed his team to victory in the final over while it was chasing a paltry total of 128.

Faf du Plessis’s side went through a few hiccups during the chase after it bundled out the Sunrisers to 127 thanks to sensational bowling by Aaron Phangiso and Gerald Coetzee. The two shared eight wickets between them to put Super Kings in command after they elected to field first.

Phangiso (4 for 20) wreaked havoc in the middle overs as he dismissed Adam Rossington, Tristan Stubbs, Marco Jansen and JJ Smuts before Coetzee (4 for 24) stormed through the tailenders.

Rossington top-scored for his side with a cautious 31-ball 40 while all-rounder James Fuller and Smut scored 27 and 22, respectively in an otherwise deplorable batting display.

Super Kings, in reply also went through a dismal start as Sisanda Magala removed opener Reeza Hendrick cheaply in the 3rd over.

Skipper du Plessis, however, made a solid 37 from 38 balls before falling prey to Smuts in the 13th over. Two more jolts in quick succession slid his side to 100/5 before Plooy did the repair work.

Bowlers star as MI Cape Town edge Paarl Royals

PAARL: MI Cape Town bowlers kept things tight for Paarl Royals as they restrict the home side to 129/6 despite Jos Buttler’s 68 to power their side to a 13-run victory in the ongoing SA20.

Set to chase 143, the Capitals could accumulate 129/6 in their set of 20 overs despite a gritty half-century by Buttler as he received no support from the other end.

The wicketkeeper batter top-scored for his side with 68 off 58 deliveries and carried his bat all the way till the 19th over before Jofra Archer barred him from propelling his side to glory by dismissing him.

Besides Buttler, only skipper David Miller (26) could contribute significantly, while the rest of the batters failed to impress in the run chase.

George Linde and Kagiso Rabada bagged two wickets each, while Rashid Khan and Archer made one scalp each.

Put into bat first, MI Cape Town posted 142/9 on the scoreboard; courtesy of a combined effort from their batters, led by Rassie van der Dussen.

The right-handed batter played an anchoring knock for his side in the middle before falling just one short of his half-century as he scored 49 off 42 deliveries, hitting four boundaries and a six.

Besides him, wicketkeeper batter Grant Roelofsen struck an important 30-ball 34, while Linde chipped in with a crucial 24.

For the Royals, Tabraiz Shamsi, Ferisco Adams, Lungi Ngidi and Bjorn Fortuin bagged two wickets each.

Bowlers star as Pretoria Capitals thump Durban’s Super Giants

DURBAN: Pretoria Capitals’ opener Will Jacks struck a quickfire half-century after bowlers booked Durban’s Super Giants for a mere 80 in the 15th fixture of the ongoing SA20.

After opting to bat first, the Super Giants’ batting lineup failed completely and bundled out for a paltry 80 runs in the 19th over.

The home side lost wickets at regular intervals that halted their expedition towards a big total.

Amid a frustrating show with the bat, Henrich Klaasen fought back with a gritty 31-run knock after captain Quinton de Kock (13) and Jason Holder (10) put on a brief fight.

Besides them, none of their batters could amass double figures as they seemed clueless against the Capitals’ bowling attack.

Senuran Muthusamy led the bowling attack for the Capitals with 3/12, while Wayne Parnell, Anrich Nortje and Eathan Bosch bagged two wickets each.

Set to chase a skimpy total, Jacks’ quickfire half-century led the Capitals to victory in just the eighth over with eight wickets to spare.

The right-handed batter scored a quick 56 off just 25 deliveries, hitting five boundaries and four sixes and put on an important 78-run partnership with Theunis de Bruyn (21) before perishing in the seventh over.

For the Super Giants, only Keshav Maharaj and Kyle Mayers struck out a batter each.

Markram’s allround efforts help Sunrisers beat Paarl Royals in SA20

PAARL: Aiden Markram grabbed two wickets before scoring a crucial 23 to steer Sunrisers Eastern Cape to a commanding five-wicket win in the SA20 against Paarl Royals, here on Thursday.

Royals were crushed on their home ground after an unsatisfactory batting effort as they were stuck at 127/7 in the allotted 20 overs after they were put to bat.

Sunrisers, on the other hand, accomplished the paltry target in the 19th over amid intermittent jolts handed by Bjorn Fortuin and Lungi Ngidi but Jordan Hermann’s cautious 43 off 39 proved worthwhile in the low-scoring chase.

Skipper Markram led Sunriser’s bowling attack as he earned the breakthrough in his very first over, cleaning up Jason Roy on 6 before Sisanda Magala quickly removed England’s captain Jos Butler on 12 with a stunner by Brydon Carse.

Wihan Lubbe and Corbin Bosch made a shaky effort to revert the early scars, scoring 28 and 20 runs, respectively, but it could only endure for five more overs before Carse and
Roelof van der Merwe stormed through the middle order, pocketing two wickets each.

Meanwhile, star middle-order batters Eoin Morgan and David Miller failed to fire in as they were swiftly removed on 2 and 10, respectively off Carse and van der Merwe.

Sunrisers, however, made a promising start to their chase notching up 35 runs in 3.3 overs before Ngidi castled two in two balls, removing opener Adam Rossington (20) and Sarel Erwee (0).

Markram gathered a cautious 58-run partnership with Hermann to bring sanity to the batting order and moved their side closer to the target before Fortuin jittered the Sunrisers with three wickets in an over, dismissing the two and Jordan Cox.

Marco Jansen and Tristan Stubbs, however, chipped in with unbeaten 18 and 21, respectively to take their side home.

Neesham, Nortje jolt Super Kings before Salt cruise Capitals to easy win

CENTURION: Pace spearheads James Neesham and Anrich Nortje wreaked havoc on Joburg Super Kings’ (JSK) batting line before opener Phil Salt smashed a brilliant fifty to take Pretoria Capitals (PC) to a comprehensive six-wicket win in the SA20, here on Wednesday.

Electing to field first, Neesham and Nortje led the bowling attack as the two shared six wickets between them to help Capitals bundle out JSK for 122 in the 16th over.

In reply, Will Jack set the tone of the chase as he surged Capitals to 46 in 3.3 overs before he fell prey to Nandre Burger on 34 from 16 balls, while his opening partner Salt remained unbeaten on 52 off 30 balls to steer his side home with seven overs to spare.

Skipper Faf du Plessis, however, was a standout among JSK’s batters as he made a quick-fire 51 from 22 balls while the rest failed to add any substance to the innings.

The former South Africa captain remained undeterred by the early blow that came on the very first ball when Eathan Bosch dismissed Reeza Hendrick on a golden duck. Du Plessis kept his side afloat as he smacked nine fours and two sixes to finish the powerplay on 70/2.

Following du Plessiss’s dismissal on the very first ball after the powerplay, the rest of the JSK batters underwent a dreadful collapse as Neesham struck three wickets in his two overs between the 7th and 9th over, including the skippers’.

Nortje packed three batters while Rashid Khan also took two wickets when JSK lost hold of the game and lost the last eight wickets for the addition of mere 52 runs.

Set to chase 172, Jansen led the charge as he smashed seven sixes and three fours during his blistering knock and took his side to command before he was bowled out by Rabada in the 19th over.

Tailenders Roelof van der Merwe and Sisanda Magala, however, held their nerves strong to reach the finishing line with five runs left to chase in the final over.

Jansen was a standout among the Sunsriser’s batters besides a useful contribution from Tristan Stubbs, who made 28 from 21, too as the rest of the batting line was effectively dislodged with intermittent wickets by the fierce MI pace attack.

Earlier, Grant Roelofsen scored 36-ball 56 while stitching an astounding 102-run partnership with Ryan Rickelton, who made 46 off 36, to help MI Cape Town reach a competitive total of 171/6 after they were put to bat.

Roelofsen and Rickelton anchored Cape Town’s innings after they faced an early blow in the second over when Sisanda Magala removed opener Dewald Brewis.

However, the alarms went off after the breakthrough wicket of Rickelton in the 14th over off van der Merwe, who then hunted Roelofsen three deliveries later.

Delano Potgieter and Odean Smith brought some sanity to the MI Cape Town’s order after it lost five quick wickets between the 14th and 17th overs.
Potgieter made 21 from 13 while Smith contributed 25 from 13 in the final phase of MI Cape Town’s innings.

JOHANNESBURG: Leus du Plooy played a sensational knock of 75 off 40 before Aaron Phangiso stormed the batting line to help Joburg Super Kings clinch a close win over Pretoria Capitals in the SA20, here on Tuesday.

Plooy and Hendricks anchored the Super Kings’ batting with a valiant 73-run partnership for the second wicket after skipper Faf du Plessis fell prey to Anrich Nortje on 27 off 16. The two sailed their side to 118 before Nortje grabbed the breakthrough in the 16th over, dismissing Hendricks.

Following Hendrick’s dismissal, Plooy took the charge and brisked the run rate without any effective support from the other end as Eathan Bosch (3-12) and Wayne Parnell (1-39) hunted down the next four batters in quick succession.

During his unbeaten 75, Plooy smashed seven fours and five sixes.

Capitals, however, faced the first jolt in the fourth over when Alzarri Joseph struck two back-to-back wickets, removing Will Jack (16 off 13), and Rilee Rossouw on a golden duck.

Markram’s all-round brilliance propel Eastern Cape to sink Cape Town

GQEBERHA: Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s skipper Aiden Markram led from the front and powered his side to a four-wicket triumph over MI Cape Town in the ninth match of the ongoing SA20 here.

The Sunrisers had a frustrating start to their pursuit as the side lost openers Adam Rossington and JJ Smuts for a mere nine runs in the third over.

Skipper Markram, however, then stood up for his team and put on an anchoring third-wicket partnership with Erwee as they raised 92 runs at a decent pace.

The duo looked to have made it an easy affair for their side before Rashid Khan provided a much-needed breakthrough to MI Cape Town in the form of Erwee who perished after scoring 41 off 45 balls, hitting three boundaries and two sixes.

MI Cape Town bowlers made a strong comeback into the game in the next over when Odean Smith removed Markram and Jordan Cox (1) when the side still needed 52 runs.

Markram top-scored for his side with 50 off 35 deliveries, laced with seven boundaries.

Following the slump, Tristan Stubbs led the Sunrisers’ run chase with a responsible 30-run knock and also put on a match-winning partnership with Jansen (16) before Fuller completed the pursuit with two back-to-back boundaries in the final over.

Smith led the bowling attack for MI Cape Town with 3/23 while Sam Curran bagged 2/37. Rashid, however, made one scalp.
