Shahnawaz Dahani went unsold at the PSL Player Auction on February 10 at the Expo Centre Lahore.

The right-arm pacer was listed for a base price of 1.1 crore. However, none of the eight teams showed interest in bidding for the pacer.

Dahani has previously represented Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans, now rebranded as Rawalpindi. In 27 matches between 2021 and 2024, the pacer has claimed 39 wickets at an average of 20.84.

Overall, he has played 62 T20s and has scalped 81 wickets, including a five-wicket haul.

With the addition of Dahani, the Peshawar Zalmi squad has now expanded to 16 members.

The squad includes notable players, with ace batter Babar Azam leading the side in PSL 11.

For the unversed, the auction was the first of its kind in the league’s history, replacing the draft—a player selection process—that had been used for the first 10 editions since it started in 2016.

The change to the player selection model followed the expansion, which added two new franchises: Sialkot Stallionz and Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen.

Peshawar Zalmi Squad for PSL 11

Babar Azam, Sufiyan Muqeem, Abdul Samad, Ali Raza, Aaron Hardie, Aamir Jamal, Mohammad Haris, Khalid Usman, Abdul Subhan, James Vince, Michael Bracewell, Kusal Mendis, Iftikhar Ahmed, Nahid Rana, Shahnawaz Dahani and Mirza Tahir Baig.

Abu Dhabi T10: Harbhajan Singh, Shahnawaz Dahani exchange handshakes

ABU DHABI: Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh exchanged a handshake with Pakistan fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani after the Abu Dhabi T10 League fixture between Northern Warriors and Aspin Stallions here at the Zayed Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

The moment came after Dahani defended eight runs in the final over, helping his side to clinch a narrow four-run victory over the Stallions.

Shahnawaz Dahani bowled an outstanding over as Stallions were 107/4 and required only eight in pursuit of 115. However, the right-arm pacer delivered the ball and picked up two wickets, and gave away only three runs.

At the end of the game, both teams shook hands, including Stallions skipper Harbhajan Singh.

This comes amid strained India-Pakistan relations after the Pahalgam attack in May this year. Following the tensions, India’s men’s and women’s squads avoided customary handshakes with Pakistani players.

Notably, Harbhajan was also part of the India Legends squad that boycotted the match twice against Pakistan during the World Championship of Legends (WCL).

The Asia Cup 2025 was also marred by several incidents from start to the final match. The drama unraveled when India refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy directly from Naqvi and did not attend the closing ceremony.

The trophy still sits with the ACC, awaiting an official handover should India agree to receive it at a separate event.

Notably, India’s refusal to engage in handshakes with Pakistani teams, a pattern that began during the senior Asia Cup, has now become a recurring feature across formats.

The ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 saw the same behaviour, and the latest chapter came on Sunday in Doha, when India A captain Jitesh Sharma and Pakistan Shaheens skipper Irfan Niazi skipped the customary handshake at the toss.

PSL 10: Shahnawaz Dahani replaces injured Adam Milne in Karachi Kings squad

Karachi Kings have named fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani as a replacement for injured pacer Adam Milne for the remainder of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10.

Adam Milne suffered the injury during the Kings’ second match of the season against Lahore Qalandars.

Adam Milne, who played two matches in the PSL 10, stayed with the team, and his recovery process continued. However, after consultation with the medical team, it was decided that he would not be able to participate further in the season.

Shahnawaz Dahani, known for his raw pace and energetic celebrations, brings an attacking bowling option to the Kings’ lineup.

Shahnawaz Dahani, who played for the Multan Sultans from 2021 to 2024, participated in 27 PSL matches, taking 39 wickets with an average of 20.84 and an economy rate of 9.10.

Saad has already featured in two matches this season, showcasing his aggressive intent, including a promising cameo against Islamabad United.

Karachi Kings are currently in fourth place on the PSL 10 points table, having achieved four wins and three losses in eight matches, for a total of eight points.

WATCH: Babar Azam hits Shahnawaz Dahani for five consecutive fours

FAISALABAD: Pakistan batter Babar Azam, representing Stallions in the Champions Cup, showed his batting masterclass by hitting Shahnawaz Dahani for five consecutive fours during the game against Markhors here on Sunday.

Coming to bowl the 8th over of the inning, his first, Dahani started with a dot ball, however, Babar Azam hit the second delivery for a four.

The right-handed batter then guided the third delivery through the third slip for another boundary.

The Pakistan white-ball captain was not finished as he hit Shahnawaz Dahani for consecutive fours on the remaining deliveries of his first over, which proved to be his only over in the match.

However, Babar Azam failed to stay at the crease for a long period as he was dismissed by spinner Zahid Mahmood in the 16th over.

He departed after scoring 45 off 44 deliveries, leaving Stallions reeling at 85 for the loss of four wickets as they continued their chase of a 232-run target.

After Babar’s dismissal, Stallions’ batters failed to pose any threat to the spin attack of Zahid Mahmood and Salman Ali Agha as they bundled out for a meagre 105 runs in 23.4 overs.

Except for Shan Masood (19) and Babar Azam, no other batter managed to reach the double figures.

Zahid Mahmood claimed 5-18, while Salman Ali Agha and Naseem Shah managed three and two wickets respectively.

Shahnawaz Dahani ruled out of Pakistan Shaheens’ Darwin tour

DARWIN: Fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani has been ruled out of the Pakistan Shaheens’ Darwin tour after picking up a back injury.

Dahani will miss the second four-dayer against Bangladesh A starting from Friday and the white-ball leg of the Darwin tour, which involves two one-day matches and the Top End T20 Series.

The 25-year-old fast bowler, who picked up four wickets against Bangladesh A in the first four-day match, will return to Pakistan immediately and will be assessed by the medical panel before starting the rehabilitation process.

Spin-bowling all-rounder Mubasir Khan has been added to the white ball squad as cover for Dahani.

Khurram Shahzad, who was set to return after the completion of two four-day match series against Bangladesh A, will now be available for selection in the two one-day matches against Northern Territory Strike and Bangladesh A on 4 and 6 August, respectively.

Shahnawaz Dahani starred on day four of the first four-day match as he and Mehran Mumtaz shared seven wickets to bundle Bangladesh A in 79.2 overs.

Requiring 408 runs to win or to bat out the day to save the game, Bangladesh A’s opening batters started the day by bringing up a fifty-run opening partnership continuing from the overnight score of 20-0. Dahani struck to remove Shadman Islam (26, 65b, 4x4s) in the 22nd over.

Shaheens’ bowling attack toiled for another 21.1 overs when Mehran eked out the vital scalp of Parvez Hossain Emon, who had faced 138 balls for his 57 runs hitting six fours and two sixes. Mehran soon trapped Aich Mollah, for a paltry four, in the 50th over.

For the next 12.2 overs, Amite Hasan (71, 102b, 14x4s) and Shahadat Hossain put on 57 runs ringing the alarm bells for Shaheens.

Dahani made much-needed inroads in the Bangladesh A batting by removing well-set Amite in the 63rd over and Ariful Islam (4, 5b, 1×4) in the 65th over with a little over two hours’ time left in the day.

With Shaheens five wickets away from triumph, Mehran Mumtaz landed a double blow in the 71st over to end Shahadat’s (42, 62b, 7x4s) rearguard effort and removed Hasan Murad for a five-ball duck leaving Bangladesh A 221-7.

It took Shaheens 15.2 more overs to remove the remaining three batters as Ripon Mondol resisted with an unbeaten 43 off 30 balls hitting seven fours and Mahidul Islam chipped in with a 66-ball 15 with Bangladesh A scoring 279 all out in 86.2 overs.

Mehran and Dahani collected figures of 4-84 and 3-57, respectively. Kamran Ghulam, Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Ali picked up one wicket each.

The second four-day match between Pakistan Shaheens and Bangladesh A will start on Friday, 26 July at the same venue.

Shahnawaz Dahani comments on Kakul Fitness camp exclusion

Pakistan pace bowler Shahnawaz Dahani expressed disappointment at being left out of the list of players set to attend a fitness camp in Kakul, Abbottabad.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday announced that 29 players will undergo a fitness camp in collaboration with Pakistan Army at Kakul.

Pace bowler Mohammad Amir and all-rounder Imad Wasim, who recently came out of retirement, are also included in the camp along with top-order batter Usman Khan.

However, Dahani failed to earn a place among the players to attend the camp, which prompted the 25-year bowler to express his displeasure on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

“No regrets for me, as I will still be the fittest bowler even after this camp,” Shahnawaz Dahani posted.

Shahnawaz Dahani lits up President’s Trophy with career-best figures, hat-trick

Shahnawaz Dahani registered his best bowling figures in first-class cricket and also made headlines with a brilliant hat-trick on his way to a six-wicket haul in the third round of the President’s Trophy.

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines’ (SNGPL) decision to bowl first against State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), paid dividends as they bundled out SBP for a modest total in 59.1 overs.

Dahani took a career-best haul of 6-40 in a fiery spell that included a hat-trick as well. Umar Amin (48, 97b, 4x4s) top-scored while Zain Abbas (36, 84b, 4x4s) and Muhammad Irfan Khan (32, 66b, 4x4s) departed after showcasing some resistance.

Shahnawaz Dahani’s hat-trick broke the back of SBP’s innings as he reduced them to 133-7. Mohammad Awais Anwar struck twice while Bilawal Bhatti and Mohammad Ali picked a wicket each.

SBP bowlers, Mohammad Ilyas and Sameen Gul, struck regular blows with the new ball to leave Sui Northern Gas Pipelines 48-4 after being dismissed for 170 earlier in the day.

Asad Shafiq (4 not out, 24b, 1×4) and Bilawal (2 not out, 10b) will be on the crease for SNGPL at the start of day two.

Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) notched the second-highest total of the President’s Trophy as they raced to 411 for the loss of seven wickets in 80 overs.

20-year-old Abdul Faseeh (153, 171b, 15x4s, 6x6s) scored his fourth first-class hundred and set the tone of the KRL innings.

Sharoon Siraj (64, 74b, 4x4s, 3x6s) and Waqar Ahmed (60, 79b, 12x4s, 1×6) chipped in with valuable half-centuries. Maaz Sadaqat (46, 45b, 3x4s, 1×6) helped KRL breach the 400-run mark.

Higher Education Commission (HEC) closed the day with 41-1 as Arshadullah dismissed Jahanzaib Sultan (4, 5b, 1×4) early on. Saad Khan (21 not out, 25b, 3x4s) and Mohammad Huraira (14 not out, 19b, 2x4s) saw off the day as HEC trailed by 370 runs.

Ghani Glass found themselves in the driving seat on day one of the third round of the President’s Trophy as they posted 319 for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 80 overs.

In reply, Pakistan Television (PTV) lost two wickets in just 1.5 overs without a single run on the board. Shoaib Akhtar removed Hasan Nawaz and Mohammad Junaid for ducks before stumps were drawn.

PTV opted to bowl first and reduced Ghani Glass to 48-4 in the first session. Later in the day, the tide turned in favour of Ghani Glass as Saad Nasim (150, 198b, 21x4s, 1×6) took the team out of the trouble on the way to his 10th first-class hundred.

Pakistan call two back up pacers for Asia Cup 2023 remainder

COLOMBO: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed Monday that Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan have been added as backup pacers for the Asia Cup 2023 remainder.

According to a statement issued by the PCB, Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan have been called up as backup pacers after Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah picked up niggles in match against India.

“This is only a precautionary measure keeping in mind the fitness and well-being of the players ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next month,” the statement said.

The statement noted that Haris and Naseem will continue to remain under the observation of the team’s medical panel.

“The team management will only request replacement from the ACC technical committee if Naseem or Haris are ruled out for the next seven days,” it concluded.

Pakistan suffered a blow when officials said fast bowler Haris Rauf had suffered a strain and would take no further part. Later fellow quick Naseem Shah also walked off with some discomfort to his hand.

It is pertinent to mention here that Virat Kohli and returning KL Rahul hit unbeaten centuries to lead India’s 228-run thrashing of Pakistan in a rain-hit Super Four clash of the Asia Cup 2023 on Monday’s reserve day.

Kohli (122) and Rahul (111) put together 233 runs as India reached 356-2, a total defended after they bowled out Pakistan for 128 in the 50-over contest in Colombo.

Pakistan ended on 128-8 in 32 overs with injured bowlers Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah not turning out to bat. India spinner Kuldeep Yadav returned figures of 5-25.

Hasan Ali shuts internet troll after supporting Shahnawaz Dahani

KARACHI: Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali shut down an internet troll after he lent his support to his young compatriot Shahnawaz Dahani after his dismal show with the ball in the sixth one-day against Zimbabwe Select on Saturday.

Young pacer Shahnawaz Dahani received a ruthless thrashing amid Pakistan Shaheens’ sixth one-day against Zimbabwe Select where he went for 105 runs in his quota of 10 overs.

Following his disappointing performance with the ball in the crucial one-day against Zimbabwe Select, Shahnawaz Dahani received immense backlash from Pakistan fans while some also questioned his focus on the sport.

In response to the backlash, Shahnawaz Dahani shared a tweet, curated by a local sports news outlet and reflected upon his own performance by sharing his bowling statistics alongside a message.

“To all those who love Dahani, here is his focus & performance before & after injury. Except for today’s performance, Dahani has 30 wickets in last 12 matches, & economy under 6, & ‘Remember Dahani will always enjoy his game & celebrate’,” wrote Dahani on Twitter.

Responding to Shahnawaz Dahani’s tweet, Hasan Ali lent his support to his fellow cricketer Shahnawaz Dahani and urged him to keep his head high and keep performing.

“No need to worry bro.. we all know you are very talented and a hardworking cricketer. [Everyone concedes runs in cricket] and it was just that day for you which is absolutely fine,” wrote Hasan.

“Keep your head high and keep performing,” he added.

Hasan’s supportive remarks for Shahnawaz Dahani, however, did not go well with a Twitter user, who straight up called both pacers ‘C-grade cricketers’.

Unlike many trolls, this did not go unnoticed by Hasan, and he responded in a kind yet befitting way.

It is worth mentioning here that Hasan Ali played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s Champions Trophy 2017 glory.

He was named the player of the tournament after finishing the event with 13 wickets at an average of 14.69 and an economy rate of 4.29.
