Dahani shrugs off injury, rejoins Sultans’ squad ahead of PSL 8 Final

LAHORE: Right-arm pacer Shahnawaz Dahani has recovered from his injury and rejoined Multan Sultans’ squad ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season eight final, scheduled on March 18.

According to the details, the Sultans got a major relief ahead of the all-important final as their leading pacer Dahani rejoined the squad on Thursday.

Taking to Twitter, Dahani expressed his pleasure in rejoining the squad and thanked his franchise for taking care of him during his recovery from the injury.

“Alhamdullilah! I am very happy to be back with Multan Sultans & my team-mates. Thank you Haider Azhar bhai for taking care of me like a brother during all this process of recovery. And thank you all for lovely welcome,” he wrote.

 

Dahani fractured his right-hand index finger after he was hit by a shot from Sikandar Raza, amid his side’s opening match against Lahore Qalandars.

It is pertinent to mention that Dahani’s Sultans qualified for the PSL 8 final with a dominating 86-run victory over defending champions Lahore Qalandars.

The former champions now either take Qalandars or Peshawar Zalmi in the final, which has been rescheduled to Saturday (March 18).

Najam Sethi meets Shahnawaz Dahani to inquire about pacer’s health

KARACHI: The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee Najam Sethi met injured pacer Shahnawaz Dahani on Saturday and inquired about his health.

Right-arm pacer Dahani, who was poised to represent Multan Sultans in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season eight had an early exit from the extravaganza after sustaining an injury to his right-hand finger.

Following the injury, the young right-arm pacer was ruled out of the PSL 8 and his counterpart Mohammad Ilyas was called up to the Sultans’ squad for the remainder of the marquee league.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the PCB management committee met the injured pacer in the team hotel on Saturday to inquire about his health and also wished him a speedy recovery.

Taking to Twitter, the PCB shared the footage of the meeting.

“Chairman of the PCB Management Committee, Mr Najam Sethi met [Shahnawaz Dahani] in Karachi and inquired about his health following his finger injury,” wrote PCB.

 

It is pertinent to mention that Dahani’s Sultans are currently leading the PSL 8 points table with four points after three matches, followed by Islamabad United.

Multan Sultans call up Ilyas after Dahani ruled out of PSL 8

MULTAN: Multan Sultans called up Muhammad Ilyas as a replacement for  Shahnawaz Dahani, who was ruled out of the Pakistan Super League season 8 due to a finger injury in his bowling hand. 

Fast bowler Ilyas has replaced injured Dahani in the Multan Sultan squad, confirmed Pakistan Cricket Board in a media release on Wednesday.

Taking to Twitter, Multan Sultans said that the pacer Dahani fractured the index finger of his right hand due to which he was ruled out of the ongoing season.

Dahani was part of Multan Sutlan’s playing XI during their one-run defeat against Lahore Qaladnars in the PSL opening match on Monday.

He bowled a full quota during the match and took a wicket on the final ball of his fourth over.

Mohammad Rizwan-led Sultans will play Quetta Gladiators today at Multan Cricket Stadium.

Sultans’ pacer Shahnawaz Dahani likely to be ruled out of PSL 8

MULTAN: Multan Sultans’ young pacer Shahnawaz Dahani is likely to be ruled out of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season eight, due to an injury.

According to the details, the pacer fractured his right-hand finger after he was hit by a shot from Sikandar Raza, amid his side’s match against Lahore Qalandars on Monday.

Following the injury, Dahani is likely to be ruled out of the entirety of the PSL 8, while the Sultans may replace him with West Indian all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite.

It is pertinent to mention that the Sultans, who started their PSL 8 campaign with a defeat, will take on Quetta Gladiators on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Karachi Kings will take on Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi today.

Nawaz, Shahnawaz, Sajid available for tomorrow’s Pakistan Cup matches

LAHORE: National cricketers Mohammad Nawaz, Shahnawaz Dahani and Sajid Khan have been made available to their respective domestic sides for the December 27 fixture of the ongoing Pakistan Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Monday.

According to the details, the decision came into effect following the discussion between Pakistan’s head coach and selection committee in a bid to allow players to get match time under their belts and make a case for their selection for the three ICC Men’s Super League One-Day Internationals against New Zealand.

“The move will allow players to continue to get match time under their belts and make a case for their selection for the three ICC Men’s Super League One-Day Internationals against New Zealand in January,” said PCB in a statement.

Meanwhile, the PCB, however, clarified that the mentioned players will still be part of the squad for the ongoing Test series against New Zealand.

“These players will continue to remain part of the Pakistan Test squad for the New Zealand series,” the statement added.

It is worth mentioning that Sajid and Dahani were among the three players added to Pakistan’s Test squad by the newly-formed interim selection committee led by former captain Shahid Afridi on Saturday.

Whereas, Mir Hamza has been retained for the Test series as he was named in the Playing XI against New Zealand.

Mir Hamza among three players added to Pakistan squad for New Zealand Tests

LAHORE: The Men’s interim selection committee led by former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has added Mir Hamza, Sajid Khan and Shahnawaz Dahani to the Pakistan Test squad for the two-match series against New Zealand, scheduled to commence on Monday.

According to the PCB, the decision came into effect after the interim selection committee led by Afridi held a meeting here who, along with Pakistan captain Babar Azam, joined the session through a video link.

In a PCB released statement, Afridi shared that all the members of the interim selection committee mutually agreed upon the need of strengthening the bowling attack of the national team, thus, came up to the conclusion of adding three bowlers to the already announced squad.

“We had a good discussion on the squad and agreed we needed to strengthen our bowling department to give ourselves the best chance of taking 20 wickets in a match. As such, and taking into consideration recent form and performances, we have added fast bowlers Mir Hamza and Shahnawaz Dahani, and off-spinner Sajid Khan,” said PCB in a statement.

“I am confident the inclusion of three additional bowling resources will give Babar Azam more options to field the best available squad for the first Test,” the statement added.

Hamza had a decent four-match stint in the recently-concluded Quaid-e-Azam Trophy; taking 16 wickets, while Sajid bagged 21 wickets in seven matches. Meanwhile, Dahani could only make two appearances in the premium first-class tournament due to national duty.

Hamza played his first and only Test against Australia in 2018 while Sajid’s seventh and last Test was against Australia earlier this year in Lahore. Whereas, is yet to make his debut in Tests.

Dahani ruled out of high-voltage clash against India after injury

DUBAI: In yet another blow for the national team in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022, right-arm pacer Shahnawaz Dahani has been ruled out of tomorrow’s high-voltage clash against arch-rival India. 

According to the sources, Dahani has suffered a side strain injury and will not be part of the team’s playing lineup in the first encounter of the Super 4s stage of the Asia Cup.

Moreover, his participation in the remaining matches of the tournament will be decided by team management once the MRI scans results reveals the true extent of his injury.

The team’s medical team will monitor his condition for the next 48 to 72 hours before taking any decision.

Dahani was part of the team’s playing XI  in the earlier clash against India and Hong Kong.

Earlier, seamer Mohammad Wasim Junior had also been ruled out of the tournament due to injury before the national team started its Asia Cup campaign. Whereas, team’s main strike bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is currently undergoing rehabilitation in London after he was ruled out of the squad due to a knee injury.

Meanwhile, fast bowlers Hasan Ali and Mohammad Hasain are also part of the team’s squad but remained on the bench so far. One of the two bowlers is likely to get an opportunity in the next match against India.

Rest day for pacers as Pakistan team starts training for Hong Kong clash

DUBAI: Pakistan pacers Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, and Shahnawaz Dahani were given rest from the national team’s training session for their second Asia Cup 2022 fixture against Hong Kong, scheduled on September 2.

Following an opening defeat against the arch-rivals India in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022, the Green Shirts has set their sights on their second match of the ongoing tournament against Hong Kong.

The national contingent hit the batting, fielding, and bowling drills at the ICC Academy Ground here on Tuesday.

Pakistan pacers – Naseem, Haris, and Dahani, however, who partook in the high-octane clash against India on Sunday enjoyed a rest day.

In their meeting, CM Sindh praised Dahani for his efforts to make it into the national team and asked him to work for his people back home. Hailed from Larkana, Dahani was asked by CM Sindh to help more cricketers of Sindh to come in limelight.

Moreover, Shah shared his goals to bring Sindh’s cricketers to the forefront. He also acknowledged Nauman Ali and other Sindh’s cricketers.
