While talking to the media before the all-important knock-out stage of the mega event, Finch said Shaheen is in good form and can be dangerous for them in the match.

“Shaheen is doing well in this tournament. We need to be careful against him and save wickets. He can be dangerous any day,” he said.

‘Babar is consistent, not aggressive like Kohli’ Matthew Hayden

DUBAI: Pakistan’s batting consultant in T20 World Cup 2021, Matthew Hayden shared his observation regarding the difference between Babar Azam and Virat Kohli.

Speaking to the media virtually, Hayden said Kohli is aggressive whereas Babar is calm, composed, and consistent which makes him different from the ex-Indian skipper.

“For me, Babar is more calm, composed, and consistent as compared to Kohli. Kohli is a bit aggressive and we have seen it often. Babar is different from him and currently one of the best batters in the world,” he said.

Pakistan vs Australia – Semi-final

Hayden is confident to prepare Pakistani boys strongly for their match against his home country Australia in the second semi-final of T20 World Cup 2021.

“I have played for Australia for almost two decades. I know the mindset of Aussies. They are a really good side and the match is going to be tough for both the teams,” he said.

“Pakistan has played quality cricket so far in the tournament and they are confident to carry the momentum. The team contains talented players who are capable of beating any team on their day. I hope, collectively we come out strongly tomorrow and give tough time to opponents,” he maintained.

‘Hasan is match-winner, can’t even think of dropping him’ Babar Azam

DUBAI: Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam believes that not all 11 players of a team can perform at the same time and it’s the captain’s responsibility to back those who are in bad touch.

Speaking to the media before the all-important T20 World Cup semi-finals, Babar hinted at no change in the Pakistan team for their knock-out game against Australia on November 11 here at Dubai International Stadium.

“Not all 11 players can perform at the same time. Those who are not performing, we need to back them. The captain is responsible to give confidence to his players and try to make a calm environment around them,” he said.

“As far Hasan Ali is concerned, he is a match-winner and won many matches and a tournament for Pakistan. I know his current form is not good but being a captain, I can’t even think of dropping him at this stage. I know his strength, he is a big-match player and I hope he will perform against Australia in the semi-final,” the skipper answered a question.

Babar was also asked about out-of-touch Fakhar Zaman and the skipper’s answer was the same.

Moreover, the Pakistani captain is confident to continue their unbeaten performance in the tournament by overcoming the weakness in the available time before the semi-final.

“See, there is always room for improvement. And to improve, you sit down with your players and management, talk about those weaknesses and try to find out solutions. I believe in this team and we can do it. We will try to counter our weaknesses and give our hundred percent in the semi-final,” he said.

Meanwhile, Babar urged Pakistani fans to pray for the Pakistan team as they aim for a solid performance against Australia. “I am thankful to all the fans for their support. We gave our best and will try to continue the same momentum. I want all the fans to pray for us and support us in the big game,” he concluded.

India thrash Namibia in Kohli’s last game as T20 skipper

DUBAI: India hammered Namibia by nine wickets to give Virat Kohli a winning farewell in his last match as Twenty20 captain and finish their disappointing World Cup campaign on a high Monday.

India, who bowed out of the tournament on Sunday, rode on a 86-run opening stand between Rohit Sharma, who hit 56, and KL Rahul, who made an unbeaten 54, to reach their target of 133 in 15.2 overs in Dubai.

India, the 2007 champions, finished the tournament with three wins from five Super 12 matches but missed out on the semi-finals.

“I know we have not gone far in this World Cup, but we have had some good results in T20 and enjoyed playing together,” said Kohli, who lost the toss in both of India’s defeats by Pakistan and New Zealand.

“It’s a game of margins, T20 cricket. You talk about two overs of cricket with intent in the first two games and things could have been different.

“We were not brave enough, as I said. We are not a team that will give (the) excuse of tosses.”

Namibia signed off with a single win in their first appearance in the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup.

Indian spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets each to set up the victory after they kept Namibia to 132 for eight.

David Wiese scored 26 off 25 balls and lifted Namibia from a precarious 94-7 to a respectable total, but it was not enough to challenge a powerful Indian batting line-up which came good towards the business end of the tournament.

Rohit, who remains the frontrunner to take over the T20 duties from Kohli, hit his second half-century of the competition.

Rohit finally fell to Jan Frylinck’s left-arm medium pace but only after he smashed seven fours and two sixes in his 37-ball knock.

Rahul kept up the pace to make his third consecutive fifty and struck the winning boundary.

Suryakumar Yadav hit an unbeaten 25 off 19 balls.

India had only managed to post 151 and 110 in their opening two losses against Pakistan and New Zealand that dented their chances of making the semi-finals.

New Zealand beat Afghanistan on Sunday to eliminate India from the competition and join Pakistan as the teams into the final four from Group 2.

In the final Super 12 match, the Indian bowlers took control after pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah sent back Michael van Lingen for 14 to end a 33-run opening stand.

Jadeja struck three times with his left-arm spin and off-spinner Ashwin also rattled the Namibian middle and lower order with figures of 3-20.

Wiese put on 23 for the eighth wicket with Frylinck, who made an unbeaten 15, to add useful runs in the final few overs.

“Only once we go back we’ll be able to realise we played an awesome level of cricket,” said Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus.

“We can take a lot of positives individually and as a team we’ll take this experience as a whole. Good foundation for us if we want to make the next step.”
