Australia crush England to lift their seventh ICC Women’s World Cup Title

CHRISTCHURCH: Australia’s opening batter Alyssa Healy starred with an astonishing knock of 170 before the bowlers displayed combined bowling effort to power their side to a crushing victory over England and win their seventh ICC Women’s World Cup.

In the final of the recently concluded Women’s World Cup 2022, England’s skipper Heather Knight won the toss and put Australia in to bat first.

Batting first, Australia posted a mammoth 356/5 in the allotted 50 overs, thanks to the monumental knock by Healy. The wicket-keeper batter top-scored for the side with a brilliant knock of 170 runs in just 138 deliveries, laced with 26 boundaries.

Another opener Rachael Haynes and the top-order batter Beth Mooney, on the other hand, scored valiant half-centuries to propel their side to a massive total. Haynes scored 68 off 93 balls, while Mooney scored a quick 62 off 47 balls with the help of eight boundaries.

For England, Anya Shrubsole shone with three wickets, while Sophie Ecclestone could make one scalp.

Set to chase a massive 357, England could only manage to score 285 before being bowled out in the 44th over despite the magnificent knock of Nat Sciver, who remained unbeaten on 148.

The rest of the batters could not contribute in the run chase and as a result, the defending champions England fell 71 runs short of the glory.

Sciver remained the top-scorer for the side with her gritty 148 off 121 deliveries including 15 boundaries and a six.

For Australia, Alana King and Jess Jonassen picked three wickets each, while Megan Schutt took two. Tahlia McGrath and Ashleigh Gardener, on the other hand, struck out a batter each.

England crush South Africa to qualify for Women’s WC Final

CHRISTCHURCH: England’s opener Danni Wyatt scored a magnificent hundred before the left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone starred with six wickets to power the defending champions to beat South Africa by a massive margin of 137 runs in the second semi-final of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2022.

With England booking their final berth after beating South Africa, the defending champions will now take on the former champions Australia in the final of the mega event, scheduled on April 3.

Batting first, the defending champion England set a commendable total of 293/8 in the allotted 50 overs, thanks to a brilliant century from Wyatt and a gritty half-century from Sophia Dunkley.

Coming out to bat first, England had an unwanted start to their proceedings as the side lost their first wicket for a mere 10 runs with Tammy Beaumont walking back to the pavilion after managing to score just seven.

Wyatt, on the other hand, stood firm and kept the scoreboard ticking single-handedly as wickets were tumbling at an alarming rate at the other end. The right-handed batter then went on to smash a gritty century and laid a solid foundation for a decent total.

She made her way back in the 45th over after scoring 129 off 125 balls with the help of 12 boundaries. Following her departure, Dunkley stood up and scored some crucial runs for her team. She played a gritty knock of 60 runs off 72 deliveries. The pair of Wyatt and Dunkley added 116 runs for the fifth wicket partnership.

The rest of the English batters made small contributions to take their side to 293/8 in 50 overs.

For South Africa, Shabnim Ismail led the way with three wickets, while Masabata Klaas and Marizanne Kapp took two each. Ayabonga Khaka, on the other hand, made one scalp each.

Set to chase 294, the South African batting line-up could only manage to score 156 before getting bowled out in 38 overs as Ecclestone wreaked havoc with her career-best bowling figures of 6/36.

For the Proteas women, Mignon du Preez top-scored with 30, while Lara Godaall followed back with 28. The rest of the batters, on the other hand, could not contribute significantly.

Apart from Ecclestone, Anya Shrubsole took two, while Kate Cross and Charlie Dean picked one wicket each.

Women’s WC: England outclass Bangladesh to book semi-final berth

WELLINGTON: England’s all-rounder Sophia Dunkley shone with a magnificent knock of 67 runs before Charlie Dean and Sophie Ecclestone took three wickets each to propel their side outclass Bangladesh by 100 runs and book a semi-final berth in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2022, here on Sunday.

In the first match of the double-header Sunday, the defending champions England sealed an emphatic 100-runs victory over Bangladesh and qualified for the semi-finals of the mega event.

Batting first, England get to a commendable total of 234/6 in the allotted 50 overs, thanks to the brilliant knock of Dunkley, who led the way with a brilliant 67. The right-handed batter faced 72 balls and smashed eight boundaries.

Earlier, the middle-order batter Nat Sciver also chipped in and followed back with her 40. The wicket-keeper batter Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont, on the other hand, scored 31 and 33 respectively.

For Bangladesh, Salma Khatun starred with two wickets, while Lata Mondal, Fahima Khatun, Ritu Moni, and Jahanara Alam made one scalp each.

Set to chase 235, Bangladesh bundled out on 134, following a combined effort from the English bowlers with Dean and Ecclestone leading the way with three each.

For Bangladesh, the openers Shamima Sultana and Sharmin Akhter scored 23 each, while Lata fought hard and led the way with her gritty knock of 30.

The rest of the Bangladesh batters could not contribute significantly in the run chase and as a result, the side fell short of 100 runs in the run chase.

Women’s WC: Mooney’s gritty 66* helps Australia crush Bangladesh

WELLINGTON: Australia’s middle-order batter Beth Mooney starred with a valiant 66 not-out in the run chase to help her side continue their unbeaten run by defeating Bangladesh in the 25th match of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup, here on Friday.

The defending champions Australia kept their unbeaten run on the track as the side beat Bangladesh by five wickets in a rain-affected match.

Set to chase a mere 136 in 43 overs, the side was off a poor start as they lost half of their side for a mere 70 on the scoreboard.

Australia’s middle-order batter Mooney then showed grit and anchored the run chase with her sensible knock. She faced 75 balls in the course of his astonishing knock and scored an unbeaten 66 with the help of five boundaries.

The right-handed opener Annabel Sutherland also chipped in with her 26 off 39 balls and put on an unbeaten and match-winning 66 runs partnership with Mooney to steer her side to the victory.

For Bangladesh, Salma Khatun led the way with three wickets, while Nahida Akter and Rumana Ahmed made one scalp each.

Women’s WC: Sneh, Yastika shine as India blunt Bangladesh by 110 runs

HAMILTON: India’s left-handed top-order batter Yastika Bhatia scored a brilliant half-century before Sneh Rana bagged four wickets to power their side to a comprehensive 110-runs victory over Bangladesh, in the 22nd match of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2022.

Batting first, India scored a commendable 229/7 in the allotted 50 overs, thanks to the brilliant knock of Yastika, who top-scored with 50 off 80 deliveries; smashing two boundaries.

India’s opening batters Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana also chipped in and bolster the side to a decent total. Shafali scored a run-a-ball 42, while Mandhana followed back with 30.

India’s all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar then scored a crucial 30 down the order and took India to 229/7 in 50 overs.

For Bangladesh, Ritu Moni bagged three wickets, while Nahida Akter took two. Jahanara Alam, on the other hand, made one scalp.

In the run chase, Indian bowlers, led by Snehm, wreaked havoc over Bangladesh’s batting line-up; bowling out the latter on a mere 119.

The right-handed experienced batter Salma Khatun resisted a bit alongside Lata Mondal, but they too could not steer their side to the triumph. Salma top-scored with 32, while Lata scored 24.

Women’s WC: Lanning’s century propel Australia to thump South Africa

WELLINGTON: Australia’s skipper Meg Lanning shone with a magnificent century in the run chase to power her side to a comfortable victory over South Africa by five runs in the 21st match of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2022, here on Tuesday.

Set to chase a commendable 272, Australia comfortably sealed the victory in the 46th over by five wickets, thanks to the unbeaten 135-runs knock from the skipper Lanning.

Coming out to chase, Australia fumbled a little at the start as the side lost their first wicket for a mere 14 as the wicket-keeper batter Alyssa Healy perished after scoring a mere five.

Lanning then came out to bat and stood firm at her end, while the rest of the batters kept walking back after scoring briefly. She kept ticking the scoreboard single-handedly and put on a brilliant century.

She remained unbeaten with 135 off 130 balls with the help of 15 boundaries and a six. Apart from Lanning, Tahlia McGrath also chipped in as she scored 32 off 35 balls.

For South Africa, Chloe Tyron and Shabnim Ismail picked up two wickets apiece.

Batting first, South Africa posted a commendable total of 271/5 in the allotted 50 overs; setting a 272-runs target for the former champions.

The opening batter Laura Wolvaardt and the skipper Sune Luus scored half-centuries, while the rest of the batters also made small contributions.

Luus scored 52 off 51 balls, laced with six boundaries, while Wolvaardt top-scored for her side with 90 off 134 deliveries with the help of six boundaries.

For Australia, Alana King, Annabel Sutherland, Ashleigh Gardener, Jess Jonassen, and Megan Schutt managed to pick one wicket each.

Pakistan stun West Indies to secure maiden triumph in Women’s WC

HAMILTON: Pakistan’s spinner Nida Dar took four wickets before the left-handed opener Muneeba Ali scored an important 37 runs in the run chase to propel green shirts to their first triumph in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2022, here on Monday.

Pakistan’s captain Bismah Maroof won the toss and put West Indies in to bat in a rain-affected match.

Her bowlers did not let her down as they restricted West Indies to 89/7 in the allotted 20 overs. Nida shone with the ball as she took four wickets for a mere 10 runs in her exceptional spell.

Fatima Sana, Nashra Sandhu, and Omaima Sohail, on the other hand, managed to strike out a batter each to further push the opposition at the back foot.

For West Indies, the opening batter Deandra Dottin fought hard with her 27 off 35 balls, while the rest of the batters remained unable to contribute significantly.

Set to chase a paltry 90 in 20 overs, Pakistan fumbled a bit in the run chase as the side lost their opener, Sidra Ameen, for a combined score of 22. Sidra faced 15 deliveries and managed to score eight.

Following her dismissal, the skipper Bismah and the young opener Muneeba then put on an important 35-runs partnership for the second wicket before the latter made her way back in the 13th over. Muneeba faced 43 balls and score 37 runs with the help of five boundaries.

The all-rounder Omaima then joined her skipper in the middle and put on a match-winning 33-runs partnership to power the side to victory in the 19th over. Bismah scored an unbeaten 20, while Omaima remained not-out for 22 off 27 balls.

For West Indies, Afy Fletcher and Shakera Salman managed to make one scalp each.

Women’s WC: England beat New Zealand in a low scoring thriller

AUCKLAND: England’s middle-order batter Nat Sciver shone with the bat to keep England’s world cup hopes alive as the defending champions beat the hosts New Zealand by one wicket in the 19th match of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup, here on Sunday.

In the first innings, England’s bowlers did well to bowl out the hosts New Zealand for a paltry 203 in the 49th over. Kate Cross and Sophie Ecclestone took three wickets each for England, while Charlie Dean also contributed with two wickets.

The right-handed middle-order batter Maddy Green fought hard with her unbeaten fifty, while the skipper Sophie Devine also played a gritty knock of 41. Green remained the top-scorer for the home side as she scored 52 runs off 75 balls, laced with four boundaries and a six.

The rest of the White Ferns’ batters could not contribute significantly to bolster the side to a commendable total.

Set to chase a skimpy 204, England were also off to a poor start as the defending champions lost both their openers Danni Wyatt and Tammy Beaumont for 12 and 25 respectively.

The skipper Heather Knight and Sciver then anchored the run chase with an important 45-runs partnership for the third wicket before the former made her way back after scoring a valiant 42.

AUCKLAND: Australia’s top-order batter Meg Lanning shone with the bat as she scored a brilliant 97 to power her side beat India by six wickets and book the semi-final berth in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup.

Set to chase 278, in the rain-affected match, Lanning led the way in the run chase; scoring a magnificent 97 as Australia comfortably steered to the victory in the last over.

Australian openers Alyssa Healy and Rachael Haynes provided a solid start to the former champions in the run chase. The pair put on a splendid 121-runs opening partnership. Both the batters were looking solid until Sneh Rana managed to dismiss Healey in the 20th over.

Healy scored a quickfire 72 off 65 balls, laced with nine boundaries. Soon after Healy’s dismissal, Haynes also made her way back in the next over as Pooja Vastarakar struck with the ball to provide back to back dismissals to her side.

The left-handed batter missed on his well-deserved half-century by a mere seven runs as she scored 43 off 53 balls with the help of five boundaries.

Lanning then remained unlucky as she missed her well-deserved century by a mere three runs as Meghna Singh managed to dismiss her for 97 in the 49th over. The right-handed batter top-scored for the side with 97 off 107 balls; smashing 13 boundaries.

For India, Pooja made two scalps, while Meghna and Sneh struck out a batter each.

Batting first, India managed to score 277/7 in the allotted 50 overs, thanks to the fifties from Yastika Bhatia, Mithali Raj, and Harmanpreet Kaur.

The side was to a poor start as they lost their first two wickets for a mere 28. Bhatia and the skipper Mithali then anchored the innings with a brilliant 130-runs partnership for the third wicket.

The pair appeared firm and was scoring runs at a decent rate before Darcie Brown picked up an important wicket of Bhatia. She scored 59 off 83 balls, laced with six boundaries.

MOUNT MAUNGANUI: South Africa’s all-rounder Marizanne Kapp displayed a sensational performance to power South Africa beat England by three wickets in the 13th match of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup, here on Sunday.

The all-rounder took a five-for in the first innings to restrict England to 235/9 before scoring a valuable 32 in the run chase to play an important role in her side’s triumph over the former champions.

Set to chase 236, South Africa sealed the victory in the final over with three wickets in hand. The side had an unwanted start to the run chase; losing the first wicket for just 18 as Lizelle Lee perished after scoring just nine.

South Africa’s right-handed opening batter Laura Wolvaardt then anchored the innings with a magnificent knock of 77 runs to anchor the run chase. She faced 101 balls and hit eight boundaries.

Later, the Proteas skipper Sune Luus and the all-rounder Kapp also chipped in with crucial knocks to further strengthen the side in the run chase. Kapp scored 32, while Luus scored 36.

The tail then held their nerves calm to steer the side to the victory in the final over as the wicket-keeper batter Trisha Chetty and Shabnim Ismail scored an unbeaten 15 and five respectively.
