‘Nothing in my heart from past’ Umar Akmal meets ailing Zulqarnain Haider

LAHORE: Pakistan Test cricketer Umar Akmal left bitter memories behind and visited the ailing former wicket-keeper batter, Zulqarnain Haider, at his residence.

Test cricketer Akmal, who was accused by Haider for his bizarre exit from Pakistan’s ODI series against South Africa in Dubai in 2010, paid a visit along with his wife to the ailing former cricketer by leaving the bitter memories behind.

“There is nothing in my heart about the past. I came to meet him today as a fellow cricketer,” Umar claimed.

 

According to the details, Umar claimed to have aided the former cricketer and also ensured his availability for support.

“I did everything I could to assist him, and I informed him that I am available 24 hours a day,” Umar stated.

Umar then went on to claim that he felt utterly disappointed by watching the video of his former teammate suffering from such challenging times and came to meet him for the sake of humanity.

“I watched Zulqarnain Haider’s video, I was very grieved. I came here as a human being and a cricketer, may Allah Almighty not bring such a time on anyone,” he concluded.

It is pertinent to mention here that Zulqarnain represented Pakistan in eight international matches from 2007 to 2010 before putting a controversial end to his brief career as he left the national team overnight during the Dubai tour and later accused Umar of the bizarre act.

Ailing Zulqarnain Haider receives financial aid from PCB

LAHORE: Former Pakistan wicket-keeper batter Zulqarnain Haider, who is suffering from an abdominal infection and underwent surgery, received financial assistance from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Nadeem Khan, director of the PCB’s National High-Performance Centre (NHPC), and Junaid Zia, general manager of domestic cricket, visited the ailing cricketer at his residence and presented him with a cheque to cover his hospital bills.

The two PCB officials further extended their good wishes to the cricketer and promised to support the latter in future.

Following this initiative, the former wicketkeeper expressed gratitude to the cricket board as well as Nadeem and Junaid for paying him a visit.

Zulqarnain Haider suffers from severe ailment, seeks support from PCB

KARACHI: Former Test cricketer Zulqarnain Haider suffered a severe abdominal infection and underwent surgery, which resulted in stagnating his health and financial conditions.

According to the details, the former wicket-keeper batter was playing a competitive league in Oman, where he consumed stale food and eventually sustained a severe abdominal infection.

Following his contraction to the infection, the former cricketer underwent surgery but that too did not help to achieve complete recovery.

“I was busy playing a league in Oman. Meanwhile, I ate stale food somewhere and it caused serious infection in my [amdomen]. Due to expensive treatment abroad, I preferred coming to Pakistan and get my surgery done,” Zulqarnain stated.

“After surgery, now I am feeling weak and can’t even walk properly. A team from PCB has visited me in the hospital and I hope the board will clear my bills,” he further revealed.

Zulqarnain’s daughter, on the other hand, requested the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to a cricket-related job for his father.

“My father has played cricket all his life and served Pakistan. PCB should hire him for a cricket-related job so that he remains with us,” she said.
