Pakistan, India likely to be in separate groups for T20 World Cup 2026: reports

The fierce cricketing rivalry between Pakistan and India might not light up the group stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, if reports emerging from Indian media are to be believed.

According to the latest developments, both nations are expected to be placed in separate groups for the mega event, primarily due to ongoing political tensions.

and the fallout from India’s refusal to tour Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year.

Traditionally, Pakistan and India have been drawn in the same group at ICC events, given their inability to play bilateral cricket since 2013.

These encounters, limited to Asia Cups and World Cups, often serve as box-office blockbusters, with broadcasters and fans eagerly awaiting the high-voltage clashes.

However, this time around, the global cricketing body appears to be considering a different approach.

A source close to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) told a local news agency that this issue will be discussed at the annual ICC conference.

Follow us on our Official WhatsApp channel

“The issue is bound to come up for discussion at the annual conference,” the source stated.

“While the prospect of India and Pakistan not playing in ICC knockouts is unlikely, not drawing them in the same group, which has been the norm, is a possibility.”

The final call, however, will rest with the ICC and is expected to be made during its annual conference scheduled from July 17 to 20 in Singapore.

This will be the first annual meeting attended by Jay Shah in his capacity as the ICC Chairman since assuming office in December 2024.

The strained ties between the PCB and BCCI have been well documented in recent years, with the latest flashpoint being India’s decision to skip the Champions Trophy hosted by Pakistan.

The deadlock eventually led to a “fusion formula,” under which both boards reportedly agreed not to visit each other’s home soil for ICC events for the next three years. Instead, their matches would be staged at neutral venues.

If the separation in groups materialises, it would mark a rare shift in ICC’s recent scheduling philosophy, and, more importantly, deprive fans of an early Pakistan-India showdown unless the two sides meet in the knockouts.

Dominant Lahore Qalandars beat Karachi Kings in PSL 10 Eliminator

LAHORE: Abdullah Shafique’s and Fakhar Zaman’s enterprising knocks powered Lahore Qalandars to a victory over Karachi Kings in the Eliminator of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 here at Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday.

Set to chase a 191-run target, Lahore Qalandars comfortably knocked the winning runs on the loss of four wickets with eight balls to spare.

Lahore Qalandars had a similar start to Karachi Kings as they scored 42 runs in the first four overs, until Mohammad Naeem’s wicket. He was caught on long-on after scoring 14 off 12 with the help of a boundary and a six.

Meanwhile, Fakhar Zaman partnered with Abdullah Shafique to ensure that the required run rate remains under control.

The notable highlight of his innings was emerging bowler Fawad Ali’s over, in which he scored 16 runs, which brought the score to 60-1 at the end of the powerplay.

However, Fakhar fell on the first ball of the ninth over, after scoring 47 off 28 balls, laced with three sixes and five boundaries.

The wicket did bring the Kings back into the game, but it was Abdullah Shafique’s and Kusal Perar’s stand that took the game away from them. The duo stitched an 83-run partnership, bringing the score to 158 in 15.2 overs.

Abdullah Shafique fell for an enterprising 35-ball 65 runs, with the help of five sixes and four fours. Perera, on the other end, remained firm and forged a brief stand with his counterpart, Bhanuka Rajapaksa.

He perished in the 19th over after scoring 30 off 24 balls, featuring two sixes and a four, while Rajapaksa struck a six to take his team home.

For Karachi Kings, Hasan Ali bagged two wickets while Fawad Ali and Mir Hamza made one scalp apiece.

Earlier, David Warner’s brisk knock and Khushdil Shah’s cameo powered Karachi Kings to an impressive total

Opting to bat first, Kings posted 190 for the loss of eight wickets in their allocated 20 overs.

The Kings’ openers provided a strong start as they raced to 43 at the end of four overs, losing Tim Seifert in the process.

David Warner was the core aggressor, while Seifert (16 off eight) did well to hold one end firm.

James Vince joined Warner, notching up a 31-run stand, bringing the score to 74 at the end of the seventh over. Vince was caught on deep mid-wicket off Shakib Al Hasan’s bowling.

The wicket, however, did not halt the Kings’ momentum as Warner’s onslaught continued, thanks to drop catches from the Qalandars. Saad Baig was the next to go, falling cheaply on the score of 11, reducing Karachi Kings to 99-3 at the end of the 11th over.

Following the dismissal, in-form batter Irfan Khan partnered with Warner, adding a 38-run stand for the fifth wicket. The partnership set the tone for a big total as the Kings reached 137 in 14.3 overs.

At this moment, Lahore Qalandars came back into the game despite sloppy fielding, removing Irfan Khan and well well-set David Warner in successive overs.

Irfan went after scoring 18 off 12 while Warner was finally caught on 75 off 52 balls, an innings peppered with eight fours and three sixes.

The middle overs jolted Kings’ scoring rate as they reached 163 in the 18th over as Qalandars struck twice, first removing Mohammad Nabi (16 off 10) and then Abbas Afridi (2 off two).

However, it was Khushdil Shah’s 14-ball 27 that took Karachi Kings to a strong total. He smashed three fours and two sixes in an enterprising knock.

For Lahore Qalandars, Haris Rauf was the standout bowler, taking three for 35 in his quota of four overs, while Shaheen Afridi scalped two wickets.

Rampant Quetta Gladiators thrash Islamabad United to storm into PSL 10 final

LAHORE:  Usman Tariq’s three-wicket haul and Faheem Ashraf’s all-round brilliance powered Quetta Gladiators into the final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 here at Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday.

Set to chase a daunting target of 210 runs, United were bowled out for 179 in 19.4 overs. The 30-run victory marked Quetta’s sixth consecutive win, earning them a spot in their first PSL final in six years.

The United had a poor start to the chase, as Alex Hales went without scoring. Following the wicket, the leading run-scorer of PSL 10, Sahibzada Farhan, and Rassie van der Dussen notched up a brisk 71-run partnership.

Farhan was the core aggressor of the stand while Van der Dussen was anchoring through until he was castled off Mohammad Wasim’s outstanding delivery in the ninth over.

Van der Dussen struck two sixes and four elegant fours in his 23-ball 35.

Farhan then partnered with Salman Agha for a brief 22-run partnership before walking back to the dugout soon after completing his half-century. He top-scored with a 35-ball 52 with the help of eight boundaries and a six.

Islamabad United were reduced to 101-3 in 11 overs. The game was evenly poised at this stage. The defending champions’ skipper, Shadab Khan, joined Agha Salman to steady the innings.

Shadab looked good for his nine-ball 16 before being removed by Abrar’s bowling. James Neesham (1) was the second to go, leaving United at 131-5. Meanwhile, Salman Agha held firm, but wickets tumbled around him.

From that point onward, Islamabad United struck at regular intervals. Imad Wasim (5) was caught off Amir’s bowling while Salman’s resistance ended in the 18th over, while Naseem Shah was out on a duck.

Salman scored 45 off 26 deliveries, hitting three boundaries and two sixes.

Victory was only a matter of time for Quetta as they scalped the last two wickets in quick succession, bundling out Islamabad in the penultimate over.

For Quetta Gladiators, Usman Tariq was the stand-out bowler, picking up three wickets in his quota of four overs, while Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Wasim and Mohammad Amir chipped in with two wickets each.

Earlier, Faheem Ashraf and Dinesh Chandimal’s impressive knocks powered Quetta Gladiators to 209-6 in their allocated 20 overs.

Opting to bat first, the Gladiators did not have the best start as they lost their skipper in only the second over. Saud Shakeel (12 off 8) perished cheaply after trying to scoop Ben Dwarshuis.

However, the wicket did not stop Quetta Gladiators’ momentum as they scored rapidly in the powerplay. Rilee Rossouw and Finn Allen partnered for a rapid 44-run stand, bringing the score to 58, including an 18-run over of Naseem Shah.

Rossouw departed after scoring 16 off eight deliveries with the help of two fours and a six.

The United bowlers, initially struggling, made a strong comeback by dismissing Quetta Gladiators’ leading run-scorer, Hasan Nawaz, for just 6 runs, leaving 68 for 3 wickets at the end of the powerplay.

Coming at the no. 5 position, Avishka Fernando partnered with Finn Allen for a 43-run partnership, bringing the score to 111 at the halfway stage of the innings.

Allen, playing his first game after the resumption of the tournament, batted fluently for his brisk 27-ball 41, peppered with seven fours.

Islamabad United pegged Quetta Gladiators back with two quick wickets in consecutive overs. Allen was the first to go off Imad Wasim while Fernando followed him in the next over, leaving Quetta 113-5 in 11.5 overs.

At this stage, the defending champions were well positioned to restrict Quetta to under 200; however, a crucial 95-run partnership between Faheem Ashraf and Dinesh Chandimal took them to a commanding position.

The duo batted solidly, scoring 95 in the remaining eight overs. Faheem Ashraf was out on the second last ball of the penultimate over after scoring an enterprising 45 off 23 balls. He smashed four crisp fours and three sixes in his knock.

Veteran Srilankan batter Dinesh Chandimal, on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 48* off 28 balls, striking three sixes and four fours.

For Islamabad United, Ben Dwarshuis and Salman Irshad claimed two wickets each.

Bangladesh confirm Pakistan tour for three-match T20I series

The Bangladesh men’s cricket team, after weeks of uncertainty, has officially confirmed its tour of Pakistan for a three-match T20I series, set to be played entirely in Lahore.

The confirmation comes as a significant breakthrough following extensive diplomatic efforts by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The green light for the series came after PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi met Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chairman Nazmul Abedeen and President Farooq Ahmed in Dubai.

Sources reveal the meeting lasted several hours, with Naqvi making a special one-day trip to the UAE to salvage the series.

Initially, Bangladesh were scheduled to play five T20Is in Pakistan, starting May 25 in Faisalabad.

However, the fixture list has been scaled down to three matches, all to be held at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. The updated schedule will be announced in the coming days.

This development ends the cloud of doubt that hovered over the tour due to regional tensions and logistical complications following the mid-season pause in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Sources suggest that negative propaganda and heightened India-Pakistan hostilities had earlier made some Bangladesh players hesitant to travel to Pakistan.

However, Chairman Naqvi’s personal intervention proved decisive. The PCB chief expressed his gratitude to the BCB leadership for finalising the tour and reaffirming their commitment to bilateral cricket.

The upcoming series will mark another step forward in rebuilding cricketing ties between the two nations.

Bangladesh will be led by seasoned wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das, who took over the T20I captaincy earlier this year following Najmul Hossain Shanto’s resignation.

Bangladesh squad for T20Is in UAE and Pakistan:

Litton Das (captain), Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Shamim Hossain, Jaker Ali, Rishad Hossain, Mahedi Hasan (vice-captain), Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Nahid Rana, Shoriful Islam.

PSL 10: Islamabad United thump Karachi Kings to set up Qualifier clash with Gladiators

RAWALPINDI: An all-round performance led Islamabad United to a resounding win against Karachi Kings in the last league match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 here at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Monday.

Chasing a daunting 252-run target, Karachi Kings’ batting unit folded on 172 runs in 18.2 overs.

The victory helped Islamabad United end their losing run and claim the second spot in the PSL 10 points table, tying on 12 points with Karachi Kings, but remaining ahead due to a better Net Run Rate (NRR).

In reply, Karachi Kings openers Tim Seifert and David Warner laid a strong foundation with a blazing 56-run stand.

However, Islamabad United struck on the second ball of the fifth over, removing Seifert for an opening.

Following the wicket, James Vince joined David Warner and forged a brief partnership. The scorecard read 80-1 when United struck again with the prized wicket of James Vince, who went after scoring eight off 10 deliveries.

Karachi Kings could not capitalize on a strong start as Islamabad United tightened the grip in the middle overs. Saad Baig and David Warner were removed in successive overs.

David Warner was removed after scoring a brisk 43 off 28 balls, featuring two sixes and four fours. The Kings were eventually reduced to 101-4 at the end of 11 overs.

The successive wickets triggered a collapse that, Karachi Kings could not recover from. Shadab Khan struck twice in the 12th over to leave them reeling at 107-6.

Nevertheless, with 204 required to seal the second spot, Karachi Kings’ lower order tried hard, but it was not enough. With a score of 114-8 at the end of 14 overs, Aamer Jamal partnered with Abbas Afridi, with a valiant 41-run partnership.

Abbas led the charge with 34 off 13, with the help of three sixes and two fours, while Jamal scored 16. The former was eventually removed in the 17th over as the Kings’ hopes shattered.  Ultimately, the whole team was bowled out in the 19th over.

For Islamabad United, Shadab Khan starred with the ball, taking four wickets in his four overs. Salman Irshad and Imad Wasim bagged two wickets each.

Earlier, Sahibzada Farhan and Alex Hales’ swashbuckling knocks propelled Islamabad United to a massive total against Karachi Kings

Put into bat first, Islamabad United posted 251 for the loss of the five-wickets in their allocated 20 overs.

The new opening pair of United, Alex Hales and Sahibzada Farhan, set the tone for a big total with a massive 153-run stand in only 11.3 overs.

Hales and Farhan took Karachi Kings’ bowling attack apart as United posted 76-0 in the powerplay. Hales, playing his first match of the season, did not look rusty while Farhan continued his stellar run in the tournament.

Sahibzada Farhan reached his 20th T20 half-century on the penultimate ball of the eighth over with the help of eight fours and a six. On the other end, Hales continued his onslaught.

Islamabad United accumulated 44 runs from the 10th and 11th overs, bringing the score to 150-0. Just when things looked ominous for Karachi Kings, Mir Hamza struck with the ball, removing dangerous Farhan for a well-made 73 off 41 balls, laced with nine fours and three towering sixes.

Meanwhile, Karachi Kings could not stem the flow of runs despite the wickets of  Rassie van der Dussen (1) and Agha Salman (7) in successive overs.

Islamabad United were 171-2 when skipper Shadab Khan joined Alex Hales for a brief stand. Hales was eventually dismissed in the 17th over after smashing a 35-ball 88, including six fours and eight sixes.

However, Shadab Khan partnered with Haider Ali to take Islamabad United to a formidable total in the last phase of the innings. Shadab was run out in the penultimate over, scoring 42 off 19, striking at 221.

Islamabad United finished their innings on a high, scoring 251 after amassing 17 in the last over.
