Former Pakistan captain appointed as head coach of Bangla Tigers

The Abu Dhabi T10 League franchise Bangla Tigers appointed former Pakistan captain Younis Khan as their head coach ahead of the upcoming eighth edition of the tournament.

Bangla Tigers announced the high-profile appointment through posts on their official social media accounts.

“New Head Coach Alert! Bangla Tigers is honored to introduce Legend Younis Khan as the Head Coach for Abu Dhabi T10 Season 8,” the franchise posted.

“Amidst the desert storm, The Bench Boss is ready to bring a sense of calm to the dressing room. Gear up for an exciting season ahead!”

Younis Khan is considered a legend in Pakistan cricket, having led the country to their only ICC T20 World Cup title in 2009. He is also the only Pakistani batter to cross the 10,000-run barrier in Test cricket.

The former captain has also worked with the Pakistan cricket team as a batting consultant for a brief period in 2020.

The eighth edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 League will be played from November 21 to December 2.

The upcoming edition will include two new teams: Bolts Ajman and UP Nawabs. They will join the existing eight teams: New York Strikers, Deccan Gladiators, Northern Warriors, Morrisville Samp Army, Delhi Bulls, Bangla Tigers, Team Abu Dhabi, and Chennai Braves.

Bangla Tigers to feature in two more T10 leagues

DUBAI: Bangladesh-based Abu Dhabi T10 League franchise Bangla Tigers on Thursday, signed a monumental deal in a glittering ceremony here to participate in two major T10 leagues.

The franchisee and T10 Global inked a deal to create a significant alliance in the T10 cricket league.

A large number of cricket fans and journalists, including the owner of T10 League, and the owner of the franchise, attended the ceremony.

The newly-signed deal will allow Bangla Tigers to feature in the Lanka T10 League as Bangla Tigers Hambantota and Zim Afro T10 League as Bangla Tigers Joburg simultaneously along with Abu Dhabi T10 League organised by T10 Global for the next 10 years.

The inaugural edition of the Lanka T10 League will run from December 12 to December 23 while the second season of the Zim Afro T10 League is expected to be held in March 2024 as per the tentative schedule.

Prominent personalities including Bangla Tigers CEO Zaffir Yasin Chowdhury, owner Muhammad Yasin Chowdhury, and chairman and CEO of T10 Global Shaji Ul Mulk and Rajeev Khanna attended the glittering ceremony here.

Shaji congratulated the franchise for joining the worldwide T10 League and praised their efforts to promote cricket.

“We are delighted and ready to celebrate the big events like league tournaments with Bangla Tigers. It is exciting to have them on board for the two major International Leagues for the next 10 years,” he added.

CEO T10 Global Khanna expressed his hope that the franchise’s inclusion in two more leagues will attract more fan following.

“When they take the field, they have a large number of fans behind them. We hope that their fans will support their team in the Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe Leagues,” he said.

Meanwhile, the franchise owner Yasin Chowdhury stated that his side played an integral role in the promotion of cricket in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and also termed it the “right time” to promote T10 cricket by organizing more leagues.

“Bangla Tigers played an important role in the promotion of cricket in UAE. Our franchise has received a lot of support for the past few years.

“This is the right time. T10 league should be promoted and leagues should be organized in different countries of the world.”

Team Abu Dhabi secure third position in Abu Dhabi T10 League

ABU DHABI: Team Abu Dhabi held drew against Bangla Tigers in 3rd Place Play-off to secure third position in Abu Dhabi T10 League on the basis of more points. 

After setting Tigers to chase 99 runs, Abu Dhabi’s bowlers contained their line and length to restrict Tigers to to 98-6 in 10 overs.

Naveen-ul-Haq bagged two wickets for 11 runs in his two overs followed by Ahmed Daniyal and Liam Livingstone taking a wicket each.

Will Smeed scored highest 25 runs including three boundaries and a six from Tigers.

Earlier, batting first, Colin Ingram (41*) led Abu Dhabi to 98-5 in allotted 10 overs. His inning included four sixes.

Tom Hartley, Mohammad Amir, Luke Fletcher, Karim Janat, and Sabir Rao bagged a wicket each for Tigers.

Abu Dhabi T10 League: Adil Rashid powers Delhi Bulls to victory

ABU DHABI: Ace spinner Adil Rashid’s devastating spell of two wickets for six runs helped Delhi Bulls in ensuring a crushing defeat to Bangla Tigers by six runs in the fifth match of the Abu Dhabi T10 League.

In the fifth match of the shortest format league ongoing in Abu Dhabi, the Delhi Bulls easily achieved a modest target of 70 runs set by Bangla Tigers in the last over for the loss of four wickets.

Sherfane Rutherford lead the scorecard with a 27-run inning and was supported by Eoin Morgan with his 22 runs. Pakistani batsman Muhammad Hafeez scored seven runs followed by five runs from Dwayne Bravo and two runs from Rilee Rossouw while Rehman Ullah couldn’t score a run.


James Faulkner lead the Bangla Tigers bowling attack with two wickets, followed by one wicket each for Tom Hartley and Luke Wood.

Previously, the Bangla Tigers scored 69 runs for the loss of six wickets, and only two of its batters were able to enter the double figures. Isuru Udana remained a top scorer with 21 runs followed by 19 runs from James Faulkner.

Adil Rashid led the bowling attack for Delhi Bulls and took two wickets for six runs and was supported by Fazal Haq Farooqi who took two wickets for eight runs, ensuring a victory for their team in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.
