Shoaib Malik’s first-ball wicket gave Karachi Kings momentum: Hasan Ali

LAHORE: Karachi Kings’ pacer Hasan Ali hailed Shoaib Malik for providing positive momentum to the team, leading them to a comfortable victory over Peshawar Zalmi in the sixth match of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9.

Hasan, while speaking at the post-match press conference after Karachi Kings’ seven-wicket victory over Peshawar Zalmi, opened up on the teams’ strategy of bowling slower deliveries in the early phase of the innings.

“Look, we always plan after accessing the conditions. So, as per the conditions, the change of pace was very essential and we were aware as a bowling unit that they possess such batters, who can hit big,” said Hasan.

“If you talk about Shoaib bhai, I think he gave us the momentum by taking a wicket on the first delivery. So, in T20, the early momentum gives confidence to the bowling unit and the team approach the game more dominantly,” he added.

Hasan Ali further commented on his bowling performance for Karachi Kings, stating that he was satisfied with the way he bowled.

“My recent performances [for Pakistan] were not that good. I played well in the World Cup but in the recent Test series, could not pick many wickets.

The right-arm pacer also opened up on his trade from Islamabad United to Karachi Kings and heaped praise on his new team’s captain Shan Masood.

“I am very happy to become a part of Karachi Kings. I still miss Roti Group, one of its members hit me for a six today.

“Shan is a brilliant player. He just got the captaincy of Pakistan and he’s getting better day by day and he’s a good man.”

Hasan Ali then went on to assert that the new-look Karachi Kings’ squad has been gelled and the fans can expect alike results from the former champions in the coming matches.

Hasan Ali gets MCG crowd ‘moving’ in Boxing Day Test

MELBOURNE: Right-arm pacer Hasan Ali, known for his fun-loving nature, once again amused the cricket fans as he engaged in a funny interaction with the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) crowd during the second Test between Pakistan and Australia.

Three overs after Mitchell Marsh’s dismissal, right-arm pacer Hasan Ali was seen orchestrating the lively MCG crowd near the boundary line with stretches and dance moves.

The crowd followed Hasan’s moves in sync, as the fast bowler appeared to be enjoying himself and even gave the crowd a round of applause.

Later, Hasan Ali also gave an autograph to a fan on his forehead.

Australia were 187/6 in their second innings at the Stumps on Day 3 with a notable 241-run lead over Pakistan in the second Test.

Wicketkeeper batter Alex Carey (16*) and Mitchell Starc will now resume Australia’s innings on Day 4.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan resumed their innings at 194-6 with Mohammad Rizwan (29) and Aamir Jamal (2) on the crease.

The pair could add 21 runs to their overnight partnership as Pakistan’s batting mainstay Mohammad Rizwan fell victim to Pat Cummins in the eighth over of the day.

He scored an important 42 in 51 deliveries with the help of one boundary and a six.

Aamir Jamal was then joined by Shaheen Afridi at the crease and the duo stitched a vital 25-run partnership, majorly dominated by the latter.

Shaheen scored a brisk 21 off 28 balls and hit four boundaries before Nathan Lyon put an end to his enthralling cameo by trapping him lbw.

Jamal then put together brief partnerships with Hasan Ali (2) and Mir Hamza (2) as Pakistan’s first innings yielded 264 runs in response to Australia’s 318.

He remained unbeaten on 33 off 80 deliveries, featuring four boundaries and a six.

Pat Cummins led the bowling charge for Australia with a five-wicket haul, followed by Nathan Lyon, who picked four.

Despite a crucial 54-run lead in their arsenal, Australia failed to inflict their dominance over Pakistan and instead got off to a disastrous start to their second innings.

Shaheen Afridi opened the floodgates for Australia with a first-over wicket as he got Usman Khawaja (0) caught behind on the second delivery.

The ace pacer struck again in his next over and got rid of Marnus Labuschagne (4) to dent Australia’s start further.

Mir Hamza soon followed the footsteps of his fellow pacer and he too, struck in quick succession to leave Australia reeling at 16/4.

He castled David Warner (6) and Travis Head (0) on consecutive deliveries when Australia had a narrow 70-run lead.

Smith was then joined by Mitchell Marsh and the pair got Australia going with a massive 154-run partnership which got a lifeline from Abdullah Shafique.

Australia were 46/4 when Aamir Jamal produced a thick edge off Marsh’s bat that went straight to Shafique at the first slip but was put down.

Pakistan had to wait around 35 overs to get a breakthrough as Mir Hamza got Marsh caught in the slips in the 90s.

He remained the top-scorer for Australia with 96 in 130 balls, laced up with 13 boundaries.

Steve Smith shared a brief 18-run partnership with Alex Carey before a sharp-rising delivery by Shaheen Afridi outclassed him soon after his half-century.

He scored 50 in 176 deliveries with the help of three boundaries.

For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi and Mir Hamza picked three wickets each.

Hasan Ali opens up on Pakistan’s pace dip

Right-arm pacer Hasan Ali shared his views on the debate surrounding the decline of pace by his team’s fast bowlers during the second Test against Australia in Melbourne.

A decline in the bowling speed of the Pakistan pacers has been the centre of attention since the commencement of their three-match away series against Australia.

Notably, the Pakistan cricket team struggled during the first Test as their pace bowlers hardly managed to hit speeds around 140 kph, whereas the Australian pace trio of Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc repeatedly clocked above the 140 barrier.

Hasan Ali talked about his and his fellow pacers’ performances on the tour in a press conference in Melbourne.

“I don’t know whose pace has dropped – my focus has never been on pace, and I’ve never bowled at 150 kph,” he said.

“I think it’s better to stick to the area around the top of off stump. I haven’t heard these rumours, and we don’t care about them. Our focus is on the game, and that’s where it should be.”

Hasan Ali then asserted that Pakistan have an “upper hand” on Australia in the ongoing Test as the touring side did not leak many runs.

“Look, we have an upper hand because we did not leak many runs while playing against a [strong] team like Australia in their conditions,” said Hasan.

“We are not complacent that our job is done. There’s still a long way and our aim is to get them out under 250 and I think that will be a great chance for us to win this game,” he concluded.

It is pertinent to mention that the second Test between Australia and Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground had a captivating start with the visitors restricting the hosts to 187-3 on the rain-affected first day with their spirited performance.
