Saud makes big leap as ICC announces latest Test Rankings

DUBAI: Pakistan middle-order batter Saud Shakeel made a significant gain in his batting rankings as the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday, released the latest Test rankings.

The left-handed batter, who made his Test debut in Pakistan’s first Test against England in Rawalpindi, announced himself in the longest format in style as he smashed three half-centuries in just four innings.

Saud, has thus far, accumulated 270 runs in four innings at a hefty average of 67.50 and is currently Pakistan’s top-scorer in the historic series.

Following his remarkable start, the left-handed batter jumped 32 places to secure his career-best 61st place with 488 ranking points.

Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who smashed his eighth overall Test century in the Rawalpindi Test, managed to hang on to his third spot, while wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan, who is going through a rough patch, slipped four spots and dropped down to the 21st place.

Pakistan ace pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi, on the other hand, who missed the historic home Test series against England due to injury, managed to retain his fifth spot in the Test bowling rankings and is currently the only Pakistan bowler in the Top 10.

Australia’s star batter Marnus Labuschagne continued to reign supreme in the Test batting rankings and added another feather to his cape as he drew level with India’s top batter Virat Kohli’s Test rating record on the all-time list.

 

“In-form Australia star and newly-crowned No.1 Test batter in the world Marnus Labuschagne has added to his bulging resume by drawing level with India great Virat Kohli on the all-time list and bringing up a new career-high rating on the latest ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings,” stated ICC in a press release.

“Labuschagne only claimed the top ranking from England’s Joe Root earlier this month, but the 28-year-old has moved further ahead at the top of the list for Test batters following an outstanding series against the West Indies.

“The right-hander amassed a whopping 502 runs for the two-match series, with his magnificent knock of 163 during the first innings of the second Test in Adelaide helping Labuschagne join Kohli on a career-high rating of 937 points.”

England Test players also enjoyed notable surges in the Test rankings following their series win over Pakistan with Harry Brook climbing 15 places on the Test batting rankings to 55th spot, courtesy of his two centuries against Pakistan in each of the first two Tests.

Whereas, season pacer James Anderson and his fellow youngster Ollie Robbinson got the rewards of their impressive outing against Pakistan as the former soared a place to claim the second spot while the latter jumped three spots to bag his career-best sixth spot.

Babar Azam rises to third in the latest ICC Test Batting Rankings

DUBAI: Pakistan all-format captain Babar Azam got the reward for his outstanding performance in the first Test against Sri Lanka as he moved a spot up to claim the third spot in the updated ICC Test Batting Rankings.

Babar, who dreamt of becoming the top-ranked across all three formats, moved a step closer to the rankings trilogy as he claimed the third position in the Test batting rankings.

The right-handed batter already holds the top spot in both ODIs and T20Is.

 

Whilst Babar aims to lead the charts in the supreme format of the game but still trails England’s Joe Root, who holds the top spot with 923 rating points; 49 points clear of Babar.

The Pakistan captain, who scored a gritty 119 runs in the first inning of the first Test against Sri Lanka, replaced veteran Australian batter Steve Smith at the third spot and moved 26 points ahead of him.

Babar is 11 ratings behind Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne, ranked second. He is also the only batter to feature inside the top three across all formats.

Bairstow, Pant step into top 10 as Kohli slips in latest ICC Test rankings

DUBAI: England’s batter Jonny Bairstow and Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh pant have been rewarded for their astounding forms as both stepped into the top 10 in the latest ICC Test batting rankings.

Bairstow made a leap forward to secure the 10th spot, meanwhile, Pant jumped six places to finish 5th in the latest rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The 32-year-old Bairstow has been in sublime form in red-ball cricket as he smashed four centuries in the last three Tests, including dual tons against India in the rescheduled Test at Edgbaston aiding his side to clinch a historic chase in the fourth innings, yesterday.

Pant, on the other hand, has impressed with two centuries and three half-centuries in his past six Test innings to rise to his highest-ever position in the Test batting rankings.

However, former Indian captain and star batter Virat Kohli has slipped three spots to 13th in the latest rankings, owing to his dismal form.

Pakistan all-format captain Babar Azam remains unchanged in the 4th position in the latest Test rankings.

Meanwhile, England’s Joe Root continues to lead the rankings, followed by Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith in second and third spots, respectively.

Root dethrones Labuschagne to rule the ICC Test Batting Rankings

DUBAI: England’s in-form batter Joe Root has ended Marnus Labuschagne’s reign as the top-ranked Test batter as he dethroned the Australian in the latest ICC Test Batting Rankings.

Labuschagne, who rose to the top in December last year following his brilliant knocks of 103 and 51 against England, has been usurped by the English batter at the head of proceedings.

Root, who is in sublime form in the red-ball cricket has scored four centuries in the ongoing year so far. He also became just the second Englishman to complete 10,000 runs in the longest format of the game.

Following his wonderful run, the 31-years-old managed to leapfrog Labuschagne to claim the top spot; having a total of 897 rating points, five more than Labuschagne in second place.

Labuschagne, however, may get the chance to reclaim his top spot as Australia tour Sri Lanka to play a two-match series later this month but Root also has a busy period of Test cricket ahead of him.
