KARACHI: Pakistan women’s national cricket team had their first training session today for the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in March.

As per the details, Ghulam Fatima, who recently contracted the virus will not be participating in the practice session, while Sidra has joined the Managed Event Environment.

In the practice session, the players practised according to certain match scenarios and participated in the net sessions.

It is worth mentioning here that the upcoming Women’s World Cup 2022, will kick off on March 4 with the hosts New Zealand taking on the West Indies in the curtain-raiser, while the final of the event will be played at Hagley Oval on April 3.

Pakistan women’s team training camp for World Cup kicks off tomorrow

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the commencement of national women’s team training camp for ICC World Cup from Tuesday [February 1] here at State Bank Stadium.

Sixteen players from the announced squad will report in the training camp tomorrow after clearing the second round of on-arrival testing. Sidra Nawaz will join the Managed Event Environment tomorrow, while Ghulam Fatima, who tested positive on Thursday, will continue to observe isolation.

In Monday’s testing, Aisha Jalil, team manager, returned positive result, as such, she will now undergo isolation as per the PCB protocols.

Wicket-keeper Sidra Nawaz recovers from COVID-19

KARACHI:  Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team wicket-keeper, Sidra Nawaz has recovered from the widely spread virus and is set to join the team’s training camp here tomorrow for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.

After completing a seven-day isolation period at her home, Sidra has returned a negative PCR test. Sidra will now join the camp for the world cup tomorrow after her recovery.

Pakistan team’s pacer – Ghulam Fatima also contracted the virus earlier this week and has been sent to isolation.

With her contraction of the virus, the isolation of the women’s squad was extended for three days.

Following the isolation period, the squad was due to undergo another round of testing on January 31, with training camp restarting on February 1 if all members of the squad returned negative results.

It is worth mentioning here that the upcoming Women’s World Cup 2022, will kick off on March 4 with the hosts New Zealand taking on the West Indies in the curtain-raiser, while the final of the event will be played at Hagley Oval on April 3.

Pakistan will start their World Cup campaign against the arch-rival India on March 6 at Bay Oval. The green shirts will play seven matches against the remaining teams. The top four teams from the group of eight participants will then qualify for the Semi-finals.

Pakistan’s Ghulam Fatima tests COVID-19 positive ahead of Women’s WC

KARACHI: The widely spread virus has begun to dent the training camp of the Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team as the pacer – Ghulam Fatima contracted the virus ahead of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.

Following Fatima’s contraction of the virus, the isolation of the women’s squad has been extended further for the next three days.

After the isolation period, the squad will undergo another round of testing on January 31 and the training camp will restart on February 1 after the squad returns negative results.

Earlier, wicketkeeper batter Sidra Nawaz also fell victim to the virus.

Pakistan announces World Cup squad, Bismah Maroof returns

LAHORE: The Chair of Pakistan Women’s National Selection Committee Asmavia Iqbal announced an 18-members squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, here on Monday.

Former captain – Bismah will captain the side in the global event as the 30-years-old made her comeback into the side after a gap of two years, Nida Dar will be playing as the Vice-captain.

Apart from Bismah, Nahida Khan and Ghulam Fatima also made their return to the national side as Kainat Imtiaz and Sadia Iqbal were ruled out of the event; sustaining injuries.

Taking to Twitter, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also shared the women’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.

 

The returning captain of the Pakistan Women’s team – Bismah expressed gratitude for making her comeback, while also setting the semi-final of the event as the target for the green shirts.

“I am glad to be back in the team while aiming to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup,” she said.

Bismah also said also commented on the Pakistan-India face-off, said she is hopeful that the team will handle the pressure effectively.

“Our first match is against India. We will try to handle the pressure well,” she said.

“We are focusing on all the matches, the fitness of the players is good. Hopefully, we will meet the expectations,” she concluded.

Asmavia, on the other hand, said the selection committee has formed a balanced team and is hopeful of the team doing well in the tournament.

“We have formed a balanced team and the players are expected to perform well,” she said.

“All the players are included in the team based on their performance and fitness,” she concluded.

‘Matches against boys will help our players get ready for WC’ Asmavia

KARACHI: Pakistan women’s national chief selector Asmavia Iqbal believes that players will get help from playing matches against boys in the ongoing training camp for the preparations before ICC Women’s World Cup. 

Speaking in a video released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Asmavia said they tried to make scenarios for cricketers to ensure their strong preparation for the mega event.

“We called best players from across the country in the training camp where we will pick players who will suit our combination for the World Cup,” she said.

“In this camp, we divided players into two teams who will compete alongside a boys’ team to prepare well for the event. We have some really talented cricketers and we are closely watching each and every player,” she added.

PCB is expected to announce the women’s squad for World Cup on January 24.

“Our squad is expected to be announced by the end of this month. We will try to pick the best possible players and make a strong squad,” she shared.

“All picked players and reserves will undergo a training camp here later on before their departure for World Cup,” she concluded.

Sidra Iqbal ruled out of women’s training camp for ICC World Cup

KARACHI: Spinner Sidra Iqbal was ruled out of the national women’s training camp which has been set up for ICC World Cup preparations. 

According to the details, Sidra got her finger fractured during practice. Due to fractured finger, she won’t be able to bowl for at least four weeks.

It must be noted here that 34 players were called by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a training camp ahead of the Women’s World Cup in New Zealand from 4 March – 3 April this year.

Bismah Maroof has also returned to national duty post her baby girl’s birth.

Women’s training camp for World Cup kicks off

KARACHI: Pakistan women cricketers have started training here at Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre (HPC) in a bid to prepare for the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup, scheduled from 4 March to 3 April this year. 

As many as 34 players have been divided into two teams who will also play tri-series alongside the boys’ team.

50-over practice matches will be played in NSK and HPC from Monday.

ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 kicks off March 4 in New Zealand

DUBAI: ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup is all set to start from 4th March in New Zealand, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Wednesday.

The host of the event, New Zealand will face off West Indies at Bay Oval, in the opener.

Pakistan will face their arch-rivals, India on 6th March at the same venue. Whereas, the defending champions, England will face their arch-rivals, Australia, a day ago.

The Semi Finals of the event will be played on 30th and 31st March, respectively. The final will be played on 3rd April at Hagley Oval.

Eight cricketing nations will be participating in the event. All the teams would compete in seven matches, the top four teams on the points table will go ahead in Semi Finals.

Taking to Twitter, the ICC shared the schedule of the event.

“Eight of the world’s best converge on New Zealand for CWC22! Who will lift the trophy on April 3?,” the Cricket Council wrote.

 

Pakistan, Bangladesh, and West Indies were the last teams to book their place into the event, following the cancellation of the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier due to COVID related concerns. The teams qualified on the basis of the better rankings.
