MUMBAI: India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 due to a back injury, Indian media reported.
According to the details, India’s senior pacer Bumrah, who last played an away ODI series against England, is likely to miss the upcoming Asia Cup as a result of a gruelling back injury which would require some time to heal.
Reports further suggest that the Indian squad for the Asian event will be announced on Monday but there is no clarity if the announcement will be made on the same day.
“Jasprit Bumrah has a back injury and will not play in the Asia Cup. He is our main bowler and we would like him to be back in action before T20 World Cup. We can’t risk him in Asia Cup and the injury could aggravate,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on the condition of anonymity.
It is pertinent to mention here that Bumrah is currently enjoying vacations with his family in the United States. His injury is considered a major setback for the defending champions while the young pacer Avesh Khan is likely to replace the veteran in the continental event.

DUBAI: Left-arm New Zealand pacer Trent Boult has reclaimed the top spot in the latest ICC Men’s ODI bowling rankings by dethroning Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
Bumrah, who rose to the top berth in the bowling rankings last week, could only lead the chart for a mere seven days as his decision to sit out in the final ODI against England, resulted in him losing crucial rating points.
As a result of him resting in the final ODI, Kiwi pacer Boult edged past Bumrah to claim the top spot by a thin margin of a mere one rating point.
The left-arm New Zealand pacer leads the bowling chart with 704 rating points, followed by Bumrah, who is sitting in the second position with 703.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has managed to maintain his third spot in the updated ODI bowling rankings.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam and left-handed batter Imam-ul-Haq, on the other hand, continued their domination in the batting rankings as the duo hold the top two spots respectively.
All-rounder Imad Wasim, however, still managed to hold his 10th spot firm in the ODI all-rounders’ rankings despite massive changes and playing his last match in November 2020.

LONDON: Jasprit Bumrah stormed through the top order as India thrashed England by 10 wickets in the first One-Day International at Oval on Tuesday.
Fast bowler Bumrah shone with his career-best figures of 6-19 as England were bowled out on 110 in just 25.2 overs after Indian skipper Rohit Sharma put the hosts to bat first.
Indian captain then starred with the bat and scored an unbeaten 76 runs, combined excellently by Shikhar Dhawan with 32 not-out as the tourists chased the paltry target in 18.4 overs.
England underwent one of the worst starts to their batting as Bumrah sparked the hosts’ collapse in his first over removing Jason Roy and Joe Root on a duck.
Test skipper Ben Stokes followed suit and went for a golden duck in the next over by pacer Mohammed Shami.
England’s red-ball hero Jonny Bairstow fell cheaply on 7 as Bumrah sent him back to the pavilion in a caught-behind wicket in the 6th over.
Liam Livingstone became the fourth batter of the top six to get out on a duck as Bumrah bowled him out in the 8th over reducing the hosts to hosts to 26-5.
After the initial collapse, England lower order failed to impress as well despite remaining successful in avoiding the embarrassing record of the team’s lowest ODI total of 86 all out against Australia at Old Trafford in 2001.
England skipper Jos Buttler remained the top scorer for his team with his 30 off 32 balls, laced with six boundaries.
For India, apart from sensational bowling figures produced by Bumrah, Shami grabbed three wickets while young pacer Prasidh Krishna bagged one.
After the victory in the first game, India now have a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series with the second match scheduled on Thursday at Lord’s.

BIRMINGHAM: India’s interim Test captain Jasprit Bumrah registered a unique record to his name as he took on English pacer Stuart Broad to smash the world record of most runs in an over in Test cricket.
In the 84th over of India’s first inning against England, their captain Bumrah took on the veteran pacer Broad and handed him an unwanted record as the tailender scored the record 35 runs in the penultimate over.
In Broad’s forgetful over, Bumrah scored 29 runs with the bat with the help of four boundaries and two sixes, while the remaining six runs came in for five-wides and a no-ball.
Following this onslaught, the Indian pacer has broken West Indian batting great Brian Lara’s 19 years old record, who thrashed South African spinner Robin Peterson for 28 runs.
Besides Lara, former Australian captain George Bailey and South African spinner Keshav Maharaj have scored 28 runs in an over in the longest format.
The list also features Pakistan’s explosive all-rounder Shahid Afridi, who smashed the Indian spinner, Harbhajan Singh, for four consecutive sixes and finished with 27 runs in the over for the then second-highest score in Test over. His thrashing now stands in fifth after Bumrah’s entry.
It is pertinent to mention here that following the brilliant centuries from Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja before the late onslaught by the tailenders, India have managed to recover from 98/5 to 416 in the first innings of the rescheduled fifth Test.

NEW DELHI: The right-arm pacer Jasprit Bumrah will lead India in the fifth rescheduled Test against England as India’s all-format captain Rohit Sharma has been sidelined after contracting Covid-19.
The right-arm pacer Bumrah will be taking up the captaincy role for the first time while playing representative cricket at any level. Whereas, he has also become the first pacer after Kapil Dev to lead India.
Bumrah will be the second Indian captain in the ongoing Pataudi Trophy, which the touring side lead 2-1 as Virat Kohli was in charge for the first four Tests before the fifth and final Test was postponed indefinitely over the Covid-19 outbreak in the Indian camp.
England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), on the other hand, have also revealed their Playing XI for the fifth Test, scheduled to commence tomorrow. The veteran right-arm pacer James Anderson has returned to the lineup after recovering from an ankle injury.
