Maaz Sadaqat blazes into record books with 19-ball half-century

LAHORE: Maaz Sadaqat produced a sensational display of power-hitting to register one of the fastest half-centuries in Pakistan Super League (PSL) history during Hyderabad Kingsmen’s clash against Multan Sultans at the Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday.

The young top-order batter brought up his second PSL fifty in just 19 deliveries, equalling the joint third-fastest half-century in the league’s history alongside Luke Ronchi and Sam Billings.

The record for the fastest PSL fifty remains jointly held by Kamran Akmal, Asif Ali, Hazratullah Zazai and Rilee Rossouw, all of whom reached the landmark in 17 balls.

Sadaqat signalled his intent from the outset, launching the innings with a towering six off Shehzad Gul and maintaining an aggressive tempo throughout his stay at the crease. Mixing clean hitting with calculated strokeplay, he raced to his fifty with a single off Sultans skipper Ashton Turner.

The 20-year-old eventually fell after a scintillating 62 off just 26 deliveries, an innings decorated with 10 boundaries, including five sixes, before being dismissed by Mohammad Nawaz.

His explosive knock laid the foundation for a commanding total, as Hyderabad Kingsmen piled up an imposing 225-5 in their 20 overs.

Veteran batter Sharjeel Khan provided the finishing touch with an unbeaten 51 off 26 balls, while Saim Ayub (27) and Usman Khan (25) chipped in with valuable contributions.

Jason Gillespie provides update on Glenn Maxwell, Maaz Sadaqat availability

LAHORE: Hyderabad Kingsmen head coach Jason Gillespie has provided a key update on the availability of star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and emerging talent Maaz Sadaqat for the upcoming games of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11.

Speaking during a media interaction on Saturday, Gillespie confirmed that Maxwell is expected to join the squad later in the tournament, although his exact arrival date remains uncertain.

“We have to wait. He is locked in for the back half of the tournament,” Gillespie said. “The exact date of his arrival, we’re not sure yet. We’re waiting for more information, but hopefully he will join us soon.”

Moreover, Gillespie sounded optimistic about the fitness of young all-rounder Maaz Sadaqat, who missed the opening match against Lahore Qalandars due to injury concerns.

“Maaz has started training today. He’s an important part of our squad,” he said.

“We’re hopeful he will be available for selection tomorrow [for the match against Quetta Gladiators]. It depends on how he trains and recovers, but if everything goes well, he’ll certainly be in strong consideration.”

LAHORE: Hyderabad Kingsmen captain Marnus Labuschagne has clarified the absence of promising youngster Maaz Sadaqat from his side’s playing XI in their Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 opener, confirming the batter was ruled out due to injury.

The Kingsmen made their much-anticipated debut against defending champions Lahore Qalandars at the Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday but endured a difficult start, suffering a heavy 69-run defeat.

However, the omission of Maaz Sadaqat, one of Pakistan’s most talked-about emerging talents, drew significant attention even before the first ball was bowled.

The top-order batter, known for his aggressive stroke play and useful spin bowling, has been making headlines following his performances for Pakistan Shaheens and his recent ODI debut.

Addressing the situation in the post-match press conference, Labuschagne confirmed that the youngster was unavailable due to a side strain.

“Yeah, he was injured with… I don’t know if I’m meant to say what sort of injury that was,” Labuschagne said.
“A side. He had a side strain. I don’t know the severity, but hopefully we’ll have him back very soon.”

Hyderabad’s struggles on the field only amplified the impact of his absence, as their batting unit faltered in pursuit of a daunting 200-run target.

Labuschagne himself top-scored with a cautious 26 off 22 deliveries, while Riley Meredith contributed an unbeaten 19 from the lower order. Apart from them, only Saim Ayub (17), Hammad Azam (10) and Mohammad Ali (10) managed to reach double figures in an underwhelming chase, as the Kingsmen were bundled out for 130.

Shaheen Afridi confirms three debutants in first ODI against Bangladesh

DHAKA: Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has confirmed that the Green Shirts will field three debutants in the first ODI of their three-match series against Bangladesh, set to be played at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, March 11.

Pakistan dropped senior players like Babar Azam and Saim Ayub for the series, giving a platform to several promising talents.

The squad for the series includes six uncapped players: Abdul Samad, Maaz Sadaqat, Muhammad Ghazi Ghori, Saad Masood, Sahibzada Farhan and Shamyl Hussain.

Speaking at a pre-series press conference on Tuesday, Afridi revealed that Sahibzada Farhan, Maaz Sadaqat, and Shamyl Hussain will make their international ODI debuts.

Farhan and Sadaqat are set to open the innings, while Hussain will bat at one-down.

“Sahibzada [Farhan] ofcourse he has been a top performer in T20Is as well as List A domestic cricket in Pakistan. Maaz Sadaqat will also open the innings, and Shamyl Hussain will bat at one down,” he said.

“I hope that they play their own [natural] game and show their skills. We, as a team, are very excited to see them play.”

The captain highlighted that familiarity with local conditions will be an advantage for the debutants.

“Sahibzada has played in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and Maaz has also played here. So it should feel like just another game for them. I hope they play their best cricket and express themselves,” he added.

Shaheen Afridi was also asked about Pakistan’s bowling combination and the potential inclusion of Saad Masood, given the spin-friendly nature of Dhaka pitches.

“Only 11 players can play, so we will decide according to the team requirement and pitch conditions. We have one more practice session today, after which the final playing XI will be announced,” he stated.

Former South Africa fast bowler Wayne Parnell has hailed Pakistan’s rising all-rounder Maaz Sadaqat as the country’s “next superstar” following his impressive performances in the ongoing Nepal Premier League.

Maaz is currently representing Janakpur Bolts, who are being led by Parnell in the tournament. The 20-year-old Pakistani has made an immediate impact in his debut stint, underlining his value as a genuine all-rounder.

In three appearances so far, Maaz has scored 95 runs at an average of 31.66, striking at a breathtaking rate of 179.24.

Batting with exceptional consistency, Maaz finished the eight-team competition as the leading run-scorer with 258 runs in five innings at a staggering average of 129, including two unbeaten half-centuries.

With the ball, he remained just as lethal, snaring seven wickets at a superb average of 7.42 and an economy rate of 4.33.

Maaz Sadaqat signs with Janakpur Bolts for Nepal Premier League

Pakistan’s emerging batter Maaz Sadaqat has been roped in by Janakpur Bolts for the remainder of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).

The ongoing NPL is set to run until December 13, with defending champions Janakpur Bolts acquiring the services of the promising left-handed batter.

The announcement came via the team’s social media handle, with a video of Maaz, showing his commendable batting display.

It is pertinent to note that Maaz Sadaqat’s name rose to the headlines following his impressive all-round performance in the recently concluded ACC Men’s Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament.

The 20-year-old remained the cornerstone of Pakistan Shaheen’s triumph and was also named the player of the tournament.

Maaz topped the runs chart with 258 runs to his name in the eight-team tournament. The top-order batter demonstrated his batting prowess at an excellent average of 129 in five innings, with two fifties to his name.

Besides batting, he also showcased his brilliance with the ball, taking 7 wickets at an average of 7.42.

The batter, originally from Peshawar, delivered a commanding performance against arch-rivals India A, scalping two wickets, backed by a brilliant 79 off only 47 balls.

For the unversed, the second edition of the NPL is currently underway from November 17 to December 13, 2025, with all the fixtures taking place at the Tribhuvan University International Ground in Kirtipur.

Maaz Sadaqat helps Pakistan Shaheens to beat Oman in Asia Cup Rising Stars

DOHA: Pakistan Shaheens got their ACC Men’s Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 campaign off to a flying start with a thrilling 40-run victory over Oman at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium on Friday.

The opener was defined by a commanding all-round performance from Maaz Sadaqat, who starred with both bat and ball.

After being asked to bat first, Pakistan stumbled early, losing opener Mohammad Naeem for six in the second over.

Sadaqat, however, anchored the innings alongside Yasir Khan, putting on a 44-run partnership before Yasir fell for 26.

Mohammad Faiq’s quickfire 19 off nine balls helped Pakistan reach 101-3 by the 12th over, setting the stage for Sadaqat to take charge.

Sadaqat’s sublime batting saw him reach an unbeaten 96 off 54 balls, featuring five fours and nine sixes.

Meanwhile, captain Muhammad Irfan Niazi provided a blistering cameo of 44 off just 21 deliveries, smashing five sixes to accelerate the innings.

Saad Masood added late fireworks, scoring 19 off six balls, including two sixes, as Pakistan posted a competitive 220-4 in 20 overs.

Chasing 221, Oman struggled from the outset. Ubaid Shah struck early to remove opener Sufyan Yusuf for three, leaving Oman 7-1.

A brief 57-run second-wicket stand between Hammad Mirza and Karan Sonavale offered hope, but wickets fell in quick succession. Sonavale was dismissed for 26, and Mirza ran out for 34, reducing Oman to 73-4 in under 10 overs.

Maaz Sadaqat continued to shine with the ball, taking two key wickets as Pakistan tightened the screws.

Despite an 88-run partnership between Zikria Islam, who scored 57, and Muzahir Raza, Oman could not recover.

Ubaid Shah wrapped up the innings by dismissing Shafiq Jan for a duck, sealing a 40-run victory for Pakistan.

Ubaid Shah finished with impressive figures of 3-29 in three overs, while Sadaqat and Masood chipped in with two wickets each, completing a dominant all-round display to give Pakistan a winning start in the tournament.

Maaz Sadaqat’s century propels Pakistan Shaheens to victory over Adelaide Strikers

DARWIN: Opener Maaz Sadaqat’s 104 off 59 balls, followed by Mubasir Khan’s three-wicket haul, powered Pakistan Shaheens to a commanding 107-run victory over Adelaide Strikers Academy in the Top End T20 series here on Wednesday.

Chasing a daunting 203-run target, Adelaide Strikers were bowled out for just 95 runs here at Marrara Cricket Ground.

Pakistan Shaheens jolted the Adelaide Strikers early, reducing them to 16-2 in just 2.1 overs.

Opener Mackenzie Harvey, who top-scored with 27 off 17 balls, tried to stabilize the innings; however, he fell in the fifth over as Stikers were reeling for 37-3.

The wickets continued to tumble as Harry Nielsen’s (12 off 11) dismissal sparked a collapse that Adelaide Strikers could not recover from.

Eventually, the whole team bundled out for a modest score in 16.1 overs.

For Pakistan Shaheens, Mubasir Khan was the standout bowler, picking up three wickets in his quota of four overs, whereas Faisal Akram and Mehran Mumtaz supported him well with two wickets each.

This was Pakistan Shaheens’ third win in five games, and they now sit in second position with six points.

Earlier, after opting to bat first, Pakistan Shaheens demonstrated an impressive showing with the bat.

Shaheens scored 202-6 in their allocated 20 overs, courtesy of a mammoth opening stand between Yasir Khan and Maaz Sadaqat.

The duo forged a 149-run partnership in just 14.1 overs, hence helping Shaheens in posting a formidable total.

Yasir, who scored 51 off 35 balls, played a second fiddle while Maaz remained the core aggressor and went on to score a century. Maaz Sadaqat’s innings was peppered with 11 fours and two maximums.

For Adelaide Strikers, Harry Manenti picked up three wickets.
