KARACHI: Pakistan Army Hoor Fawad has been crowned the Women’s Singles Champion at the 35th National Games currently underway here in the Metropolitan city.

Competing at the Islamia Club, Hoor delivered a commanding performance in the final, defeating Haiqa Hassan in straight sets, 3–0, to secure the national title.

Throughout the tournament, she demonstrated remarkable form, earning three gold medals and one bronze across multiple events, solidifying her position as one of the country’s leading table tennis athletes.

In the Men’s Singles final, Muhammad Ahmed, also representing Pakistan Army, claimed victory over Shah Khan, further strengthening Pak Army’s dominance in this year’s table tennis competitions.

KARACHI: Pakistan Army continued its foothold at the 35th National Games with a century of gold medals here on Wednesday.

After the conclusion of the fourth day, the Pakistan Army remained in the pole position with 113 gold medals, followed by 50 silver and 34 bronze medals.

Meanwhile, the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is in second place with 46 gold medals, followed by the Pakistan Navy in third, which secured 24 gold medals.

The day belonged to the Pakistan Army as their athletes excelled in swimming, rowing, football, Karate, and several other competitions.

In swimming, Army’s Ahmed Durrani achieved a double hat-trick of golds, bringing his department tally to six with victories in the 800m freestyle, 200m freestyle, and 200m relay.

Moreover, Pakistan Army athletes also emerged victorious in women’s football and women’s softball competitions. They remained unbeaten in the single-league football format.

KARACHI: Renowned national wrestler and Olympian Inam Butt secured gold for Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) in the 92kg category here in the 35th National Games on Tuesday.

Inam, 36, created history after winning the national championship for the record 18th time.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Army’s Nouman Zaka remained in the second position with silver, whereas Punjab’s Rana Faizan and Railway’s Haider Ali secured bronze medals.

Arshad Nadeem claims javelin gold at National Games

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Olympic hero Arshad Nadeem reaffirmed his supremacy in javelin on Monday, clinching the gold medal at the 35th National Games with a commanding 81.1m throw.

Representing WAPDA, the Paris 2024 Olympic champion surged to the top of the leaderboard with his very first big effort, and no competitor came close to threatening his mark for the remainder of the competition. His throw stood unchallenged as the winning distance.

The silver medal also went to WAPDA through Yasir Sultan, whose best attempt of 70.77m placed him comfortably ahead of the rest but well short of Arshad’s benchmark. Pakistan Army’s Abrar secured bronze with a throw of 67.68m.

Arshad, who became Pakistan’s first-ever individual Olympic gold medallist last year, is also serving as the flag-bearer for the National Games.

“Honoured to be the Flag Bearer at the National Games 2025 in Karachi,” he wrote on social media, lauding the electric atmosphere. “Amazing crowd and unforgettable energy.”

National Games: Pakistan Army defeat WAPDA in Netball opener

KARACHI: Pakistan Army edged Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) 27-21 in the inaugural Netball fixture of the 35th National Games here at the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Coaching Centre on Thursday.

Secretary General of the Pakistan Olympic Association, Khalid Mahmood Chaudhary, was the chief guest and inaugurated the 4-day Netball event.

Chairman of the Pakistan Netball Federation, Capt. Zafar Iqbal Awan (Rtd), Secretary General, Muhammad Riaz, Secretary, Sindh Sports Department, and Muhammad Saeed Arian also attended the event.

Chairman of the Pakistan Karate Federation, Muhammad Jehangir, Senior Vice President of the Sindh Tennis Federation, Khalid Rehmani, and a large number of people were also present on the occasion.

In the men’s category, Pakistan Army defeated Pakistan Wapda by 27-21 goals, whereas Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) defeated Sindh by 23-19 goals.

Pakistan Navy also secured a victory against Balochistan by 32-8 goals, while Pakistan Police beat Punjab by 28-12 goals.

In the Women’s event, Pakistan Wapda outplayed Pakistan Army by 15-10 goals.

Both men’s and women’s semi-final competitions will be played on December 6, while position matches, 3rd-position matches, and finals will be played on December 7.

Arshad Nadeem bags gold in National Games

QUETTA: Renowned Pakistan Javelin thrower Olympian Arshad Nadeem on Saturday, outpowered his opponents to get his hands on the gold medal in the ongoing 34th National Games here at Ayub Stadium. 

In the Javelin event, Arshad Nadeem showcased his potential and proved his mettle once again as he recorded the longest throw of 78.02m in his third attempt. His attempt was unmatched by any of his competitors.

Consequently, Water and Power Development Authority’s (WAPDA) Arshad Nadeem clinched the gold medal.

Yasir Sultan, Nadeem’s WAPDA teammate registered the second-best distance of 77.50m to bag the silver medal. Whereas, Army’s Amad managed a Bronze medal after he threw his javelin for the third-best distance of 73.18m.

“I came here to win nothing less than a Gold medal. I trained hard after undergoing shoulder injury,” Arshad Nadeem said.

“This Gold medal has given me immense confidence after recovering from shoulder injury. It was my first event after surgery,” he added.

Notably, the star athlete underwent elbow surgery last year in the United Kingdom briefly after his record-breaking performances in Commonwealth Games and Islamic Games.

Arshad Nadeem created history for Pakistan by winning the gold medal in the Javelin throw at the 2022 Commonwealth Games as he became Pakistan’s first gold medalist in the Games athletics since 1962.

He also registered a national and Commonwealth Games record throw of 90.18 metres in the process.

Briefly after CWG glory, Arshad Nadeem also represented Pakistan in Islamic Games despite coping with the elbow injury but once again he defied the injury and threw the javelin with all his force as his spear amassed 88.55m, setting the Islamic Games record before getting his hands on the gold.

Uncertainty surrounds National Games as political unrest deepens

KARACHI: The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) on Wednesday, called an important regarding the future of the upcoming National Games which was in jeopardy due to the current political unrest in the country.

According to POA Secretary General Khalid Mahmood, the president of POA Arif Hassan will preside over the meeting between the association and stakeholders which will decide the fate of the upcoming event.

In light of the ongoing nationwide protests over the detention of former prime minister and chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, all stakeholders involved will consider whether the National Games can proceed as planned or not.

The official announcement will be made after the important meeting today.

It is worth mentioning here that the upcoming 34th National Games are scheduled to be commenced on May 12 in Quetta.

POA includes Women’s cricket in National Games

LAHORE: Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has included women’s cricket as one of the three exhibition sports in the upcoming National Games, scheduled to take place in Quetta from May 15 to 23.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, POA finalized 31 disciplines for the 34th chapter of the National Games alongside three exhibition sports which also include futsal and tug of war.

Moreover, there will only be a single exhibition match for women’s cricket and men’s tug of war.

Details further suggest that a large number of male and female athletes will participate in the event for which POA requested provincial Olympic associations, Islamabad Olympic Association, services, departments and concerned sports federations to take appropriate action for the preparation, participation and conduct of the games in a befitting manner.
