Nafay leads Quetta Qavalry to winning start in Abu Dhabi T10 league

ABU DHABI: Khawaja Nafay’s 45* from only 12 balls powered Quetta Qavalry to a big win against Northern Warriors in the opening match of the Abu Dhabi T10 here at the Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Set 134, Northern Warriors could only manage to score 82-2 at the end of their 10 overs.

Hazratullah Zazai remained unbeaten with 31 from 28 while Colin Munro hit three sixes and three fours in his 44 from 28 balls.

For Qavalry, Ali Majid and Jason Holder picked up one wicket each.

Earlier, after being put into bat, Quetta Qavalry piled up  133-5 in their 10 overs.

Evin Lewis was sent back in the second over, whereas Andries Gous followed him in the third over. As a result, they were 20-2 as skipper Liam Livingstone walked into bat and made 24 from 10 balls with the help of two sixes and two fours.

However, the Warriors tightened the screws with clinical bowling and removed Livingstone,  Fabian Allen (8), and Muhammad Waseem (15) in quick succession.

As a result, Qavalry were in dire straits with 65-5 in 6.3 overs. However, it was Nafay’s arrival that powered them to a winning total.

The right-hander hit five sixes and two fours on his knock, which took the total to 133 at the end of their innings. Jason Holder also batted well for his 24 from 10 balls with the aid of two sixes and a four.

For Northern Warriors, Trent Boult picked up two wickets. Odean Smith, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Thisara Perera also managed to pick one apiece.

In the second fixture, Deccan Gladiators defeated UAE Bulls by a narrow margin of six runs, courtesy of Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s fiery half-century.

Kohler-Cadmore hit 78* from just 29 balls, laced with seven sixes and six fours that powered Gladiators to 141-2 in their 10 overs.

In reply, UAE Bulls fell short by a narrow margin as they scored 135-5 in their allotted 10 overs.

Tim David remained the top scorer, smashing two sixes and nine fours on his way to 59 from 29 balls.

For Gladiators, Luke Wood picked up two wickets in his two overs while giving away just 14.

Marcus Stoinis, David Wiese lead Deccan Gladiators to victory over Team Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI: Marcus Stoinis and David Wiese exhibited an impressive display of power-hitting, leading the Deccan Gladiators to victory over Team Abu Dhabi in a high-scoring Abu Dhabi T10 League 2024 match here on Saturday.

Team Abu Dhabi fell seven runs short of the massive 135-run target as they were restricted to 128-6 in their allocated ten overs.

They needed 14 runs off the last over, however, Ibrar Ahmad ensured the victory for Deccan Gladiators, giving away only seven runs

Skipper Phil Salt gave them a good start with a quick-fire 24 off nine balls and took the team’s total to 45 inside four overs. However, they lost three wickets in quick succession and were soon reduced to 76-4 in 6.1 overs.

Jonny Bairstow and Kadeem Alleyne then smashed 41 runs from 13 balls for the fifth wicket to take the total to 117 before Richard Gleeson removed the former. Bairstow top-scored with 47 off 20, which featured five boundaries and three sixes.

Alleyne remained unbeaten on 24 off 12 but failed to take his team across the line.

Gleeson led the Gladiators’ bowling attack with figures of 3-20, whereas Maheesh Theekshana grabbed two wickets.

Earlier, Gladiators posted 134-5 while batting first despite losing four quick wickets inside six overs with 53 runs on the board.

However, Marcus Stoinis held on to one end and played a blistering innings of 42 runs from 16 balls, laced with three boundaries and four sixes.

Stoinis fell prey to Noor Ahmad and was replaced by David Wiese, who displayed similar power-hitting abilities, scoring an unbeaten 42 off 12 balls. Wiese’s knock included four sixes and four boundaries.

Noor Ahmad took two wickets for Team Abu Dhabi, while Adam Milne, Mark Adair, and Rumman Raees managed one each.

It’s worth noting that Deccan Gladiators are comfortably sitting at the top of the Abu Dhabi T10 League points table, having won all three of their games. Meanwhile, Team Abu Dhabi have won out of three matches so far and are sitting in the third spot.

Johnson Charles powers Northern Warriors to second win in Abu Dhabi T10 League

ABU DHABI: Johnson Charles carried on his brilliant form and smashed another unbeaten half-century to power Northern Warriors to a thumping victory over Chennai Braves in the Abu Dhabi T10 League 2024 here on Saturday.

Chasing a target of 100, Charles played an unbeaten 52-run knock off 23 balls to help his side achieve the total in 8.3 overs.

He came out to bat in the first over after captain Colin Munro was dismissed for a golden duck. The West Indian batter carried the confidence from his unbeaten 23-ball 54 against the Delhi Bulls and continued from there.

Charles, along with Brandon King (25) stitched a 54-run stand for the second wicket before the latter was dismissed by Akila Dananjaya.

After the fall of King, Johnson Charles continued his onslaught and steered his side to victory, hitting five fours and four sixes in the process. Meanwhile, Azmatullah Omarzai added a valuable 13 runs from four balls with two sixes.

For Chennai Braves, all three wickets were taken by Sri Lanka players — Nuwan Thushara, Thisara Perera and Dananjaya.

Earlier, Chennai Braves after being invited to bat managed to post 99-5, courtesy of a solid third wicket stand between Chris Lynn and Bhanuka Rajapaksa.

Braves lost their first two wickets for only 17 runs before Lynn and Rajapaksa smashed 64 runs from 33 balls for the third wicket to push the team’s total to 81.

Trent Boult broke the partnership as he castle Rajapaksa, who top-scored with 41 off 21 balls, laced with five boundaries and two sixes. Lynn remained unbeaten on 39, which conceded 25 balls and included five boundaries.

Boult, Saqib Mahmood and Fareed Ahmad grabbed one wicket each for Northern Braves.

It’s worth noting that it was Chennai Braves’ second loss in as many games during the Abu Dhabi T10 League 2024, while Northern Braves are unbeaten after two games.

Abu Dhabi T10 League: Johnson Charles stars as Northern Warriors thump Delhi Bulls

ABU DHABI: Johnson Charles smashed 54 runs from 23 balls with the help of six sixes to lead Northern Warriors to a seven-wicket victory over Delhi Bulls in the fourth game of the Abu Dhabi T10 League 2024 here on Friday.

Chasing a target of 110, Northern Warriors successfully achieved the total with an over to spare with Charles remaining unbeaten on 54.

He came out to bat with his team in trouble after losing two quick wickets, however, he turned the game around with his explosive hitting.

Charles along with Sherfane Rutherford (20) knitted an unbeaten 79-run stand in 31 balls to steer their team to a dominant win.

Earlier, Delhi Bulls managed to post 109-6 in their allocated 10 overs, courtesy of quick cameos by England batters Tom Banton, Adam Lyth and James Vince.

Banton opened the innings with Lyth and struck 23 off 15 with the help of two fours and one six before falling prey to Fareed Ahmed.

Lyth, on the other hand, smashed 25 runs from 10 balls, laced with two boundaries and two sixes. He was dismissed by Uzair Khan in the sixth over with 65 runs on the board.

Northern Warriors bowlers did not allow batters to score freely in the latter overs, restricting Delhi Bulls to 109-6, despite a good start.

Vince top-scored for the Bulls with a 16-ball 27, which included three boundaries and one six.

Fareed Ahmad and Azmatullah Omarzai bagged two wickets each for the Warriors, while Trent Boult and Uzair Khan managed one each.

T10 League: Deccan Gladiators defeat Northern Warriors

Deccan Gladiators clinched a six-wicket win over Northern Warriors in the 11th game of the T10 League in Abu Dhabi.

Batting first, Northern Warriors made 70-6 in their given 10 overs. Samit Patel top was the top scorer with 21 off 13 balls after hitting two boundaries and a six.

Skipper Rovman Powell and Abhimanyu Mithun scored 11 runs each.

Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva got two wickets for the Gladiators.

The Deccan side completed the runs chase with 17 balls to spare. David Wiese top-scored with an unbeaten knock of 27 from nine balls with the help of three sixes.
