Litton Das eyes turnaround against Pakistan in T20I series

LAHORE: Bangladesh captain Litton Das has expressed optimism about a strong performance against Pakistan in the three-match T20I series, which begins tomorrow.

Addressing the media ahead of the first T20I, Litton emphasized the importance of hard work, noting that Bangladesh has the capacity to defeat any opposition.

“We are confident that we can beat any team, but it requires effort and discipline,” Liton told reporters.

Litton hailed Pakistan as a strong and balanced side, despite the results not going in their favor in the shorter format over the past year.

“Pakistan is a quality team. If we play well, we can definitely win the match,” he said.

Bangladesh is coming off a 2-0 drubbing by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which created history after the UAE defeated Bangladesh for the first time.

Coming off a losing rut, Bangladesh also faces injury concerns as their key fast bowlers, Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed, are out of the series.

Additionally, their emerging pacer, Nahid Rana, has already opted out of the tour due to personal reasons.

“We haven’t played our best T20 cricket in recent times, but we have good players, Litton Das said of Bangladesh’s recent form, while deeming Injuries as part and parcel of the game.

Stressing on integration into the atmosphere, he added: “The conditions are quite similar to what we see in the Pakistan Super League. High-scoring games are possible here, and we expect some good matches.”

The skipper emphasized the importance of quality cricket, stating that they must perform well in all three departments of the game.

“We’ve come here to play quality cricket. We’ll need to perform well in all departments. If we play well, the results will follow,” Litton concluded.

The three-match T20I series between Pakistan and Bangladesh is set to begin tomorrow.

The second and third matches are scheduled for May 30 and June 1, respectively, all taking place at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. All matches will be played under lights.

28 May – 1st T20I, Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore

Pakistan, Bangladesh exclude ODIs from upcoming bilateral series

The Bangladesh and Pakistan Cricket Boards have agreed to remove the One Day International (ODIs) from the upcoming bilateral series, slated for May and July, reported Bangladesh’s news outlet The Daily Star on Sunday.

The report stated that Sami Ul Hasan, the PCB media and communications director, confirmed the board had replaced the 50-over matches with T20 internationals due to the T20 World Cup scheduled in India and Sri Lanka next February.

Before that, both teams will feature in the Asia Cup in India this September, which will also be played in the T20 format.

Bangladesh was previously scheduled to tour Pakistan for three ODIs and three T20Is in May, according to the Future Tour Programme (FTP).

However, the tour will now consist of five T20Is. Consequently, Bangladesh was supposed to host Pakistan for three One-Day Internationals in July, a series scheduled outside the FTP program, which will now be a three-match T20I series.

The Men in Green are currently playing a five-match T2OI series against New Zealand. With one match remaining, the Black Caps hold a decisive lead of 3-1.

After this series concludes, both teams will participate in a three-match ODI series starting on March 29.

Following that, the players will focus on the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which is scheduled to take place from April 11 to May 18.

BCB chief provides major update on Pakistan’s upcoming tour of Bangladesh

Faruque Ahmed, Chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has provided a major update regarding the Pakistan team’s upcoming tour of Bangladesh.

Faruque indicated that Pakistan is expected to tour Bangladesh for a series of white-ball matches in July 2025.

For the unversed, the Bangladesh team will tour Pakistan in May for a series in shorter formats as part of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Future Tour Programme (FTP).

Faruque Ahmed stated that a reciprocal white-ball tour has been agreed for a window in July and August, following the talks between PCB and BCB during the sidelines of the Champions Trophy.

“The PCB informed us that they would tour Bangladesh outside of the FTP. A short tour in July has been mostly confirmed, and we will provide final details once everything is finalized,” said Faruque.

The BCB chairmen further suggested that Bangladesh and Pakistan could host a tri-series in the future.

“I have also spoken about Bangladesh being part of a [Pakistan] tri-series in the future, wherever it is, if it is held at a suitable time for us,” he said.

Faruque Ahmed also announced that the board is planning a farewell for Mushfiqur Rahim, who recently retired from ODIs.

“We will plan on how to give Mushfiqur Rahim a proper farewell. He is probably one of the legends of our team,” Faruque said.

“He is one of the architects of Bangladesh cricket over the last 19 years. I can remember how he started in 2005, and then played a vital role in the 2007 World Cup. The path that he has shown is ideal for the younger generation,” concluded Faruque.
