Pakistan Cricket Board unveils busy 12 months schedule for national sides

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has unveiled an engaging 12 months schedule for the national sides, here on Friday.

The national men’s side will play seven Tests, 17 ODIs and a minimum of 25 T20Is in the next 12 months period as England, New Zealand, and West Indies tour twice.

The men in green will compete in the seven ICC World Test Championship matches against three opponents – Sri Lanka (2), England (3), and New Zealand (2).

The green shirts will also contest 17 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League matches against West Indies, Sri Lanka, Netherlands and New Zealand (three each).

In the shortest format, Pakistan’s men’s team will participate in the ACC Asia Cup T20 in August/September and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Australia 2022 from 15 October to 15 November, where they will be guaranteed at least five T20Is apiece.

Their other T20Is will be against England (seven), the West Indies (three), and New Zealand (five).

New Zealand will then again tour Pakistan in April 2023 to play five ODIs and as many T20Is.

The women’s team will compete in three ICC Women’s Championship series matches, including home and away matches against Sri Lanka, Ireland, and Australia, as well as the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, the 19th Asian Games in Guangzhou, the ACC Women’s T20 Cup (venue TBC), the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2023 South Africa, and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 South Africa.

In addition to this, Pakistan women will take on Ireland and Australia in a triangular T20 series in Belfast in the lead up to the Birmingham Games.

At this time, the participation of the Pakistan Shaheens in the 19th Asian Games has been confirmed, while efforts are being made to add a few more series for the Shaheens so that players who are vying for a spot in the national team have more opportunities.

This exciting and back-to-back international cricket will be in addition to the 2022-23 domestic cricket season, which will run concurrently with the international season. In the 2021-22 season, the PCB delivered 314 matches in 12 tournaments between September 2021 and April 2022.

In due course, the details and schedule for Pakistan’s domestic cricket season 2022-23 will be released.

Pakistan Cricket Board releases details of Junior League

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has released the details of the Pakistan Junior League (PJL), here on Thursday.

The PCB has issued a Request for Expressions of Interest for various available rights pertaining to the Twenty20 competition, which is set to take place in October this year, according to a statement posted on the PCB’s official website.

For the following rights, the PCB is seeking expressions of interest from interested parties.

  2. Live-Streaming
  3. Category Sponsorships
  4. Team Franchises

On this occasion, the chairman of PCB Ramiz Raja expressed his excitement about releasing the Expression of Interest document for the PJL — the first-ever international league of its kind in the world.

“I am thrilled and excited that after days of hard work and planning, we have today released the Expression of Interest document for the Pakistan Junior League, the first-ever international league of its kind in the world, the first edition of which we plan to organise this year in October,” the statement quoted him saying.

“This will be a city-based league with players to be selected through a draft system involving international age-group cricketers. The PCB will create an environment of brilliance with legends and icons of the game sitting in player dug-outs in the roles of mentors and coaches, and broadcast coverage from the top draw,” he added.

The PCB chairman further termed the PJL all about creating opportunities for cricketers and identifying the talent.

“The PJL integrates very nicely with the PCB Junior Pathways Programme in which the PCB, through strategic partnerships, have provided contracts to 100 best cricketers who will now receive coaching from foreign experts, and education at five-star institutions and monthly stipends of PKR30K each,” he stated.

“Initiatives like the PJL are all about creating opportunities for cricketers, identifying the talent, nurturing them into world-class players and closing the gap between domestic and international cricket,” he concluded.

‘Pakistan tour was an eye-opener’ Marnus Labuschagne

LAHORE: Australia’s top-order and the top-ranked Test batter Marnus Labuschagne reviewed Australia’s historic tour to Pakistan and called it an eye-opening experience.

In the 39th podcast, released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Labuschagne shared his experience and revealed that the country exceeded his expectations.

“There was a lot of talk about the security and I alongside the whole team felt extremely safe here,” he said.

“It has been a really eye-opening experience to what Pakistan is like. You have a lot of speculations when you haven’t been to a country and paint a picture in mind but the country itself exceeded my expectations in terms of the picture and the people are about,” he added.

The right-handed batter further commented about the hospitality of the nation and revealed it almost felt like a home series.

“Pakistani people have really accepted the Australian team and it almost felt like a home game with the number of crowd cheers in our support was simply amazing,” he said.

“They are amazing and lovely people and I myself have exceeded to accepting to the Australians, that they are so welcoming,” he added.

Labuschagne then went on to comment about Babar Azam’s heroic knock in the fourth innings of the Karachi Test, saying, “If it wasn’t for him, we would have won that game.”

The top-ranked Test batter further heaped praises on the Pakistan pacers and said he was really impressed with them for keep coming back.

“I have been really impressed with the Pakistani quicks, just the way they kept coming back on a pitch that doesn’t offer you much,” he said.

“I looked at their paces and they just kept banging the wickets and hanging around 140 kph mark regardless of what time of the day it is,” he added.

The top-ranked Test batter then lauded young Pakistani opening batter Abdullah Shafique saying, “He is a very good player and probably a really good find for Pakistan.”

PCB gets sponsor for Pathway Cricket Programme

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has got the sponsor for its Pathway Cricket Programme to sponsor 100 junior cricketers.

In a statement released on the official website of the PCB, the cricket board shared that the Engro Corporation Limited will bear the cost of high-performance coaches hired by the PCB to coach teenagers enrolled in the programme.

BRB group, on the other hand, will directly sponsor the junior cricketers — who will receive the monthly retainers of PKR 30,000 and free education.

On this occasion, chairman PCB Ramiz Raja expressed his excitement by comparing the initiative to him scoring a century on debut at Lord’s.

“Today is a special day for me, I took the charge as the PCB Chairman with some dreams and the pathway cricket programme is surely one of them. It feels like scoring a century on debut at Lord’s,” he stated.

The PCB chairman then thanked the sponsors – BRB Group and Engro Corporation claiming that the Pathway Cricket Programme is close to his heart.

“We want to thank the BRB Group for their support for the PCB Pathway Cricket Programme that will shape the future of Pakistan cricket. I have personally taken great interest in the project and it remains very close to my heart,” he was quoted as saying.

“One of our major objectives is to invest in pathway cricket to ensure our future cricketers get the best possible training, grooming, education and financial support. I am delighted with the progress we have made in a short span of time. We have identified talented players who are in their early to late teens and are the future of Pakistan cricket, we will now fully focus on the development of their cricket, education and basic life skills,” he added.

“Through this three-year initiative, participants of the PCB Pathway Cricket Programme will be coached by some of the leading coaches from around the world under the Engro Cricket Coaching Project. The agreement that we have reached with Engro Corporation can potentially revolutionise pathway cricket in Pakistan.”

PCB updates PM Shahbaz Sharif as patron-in-chief on their website

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has updated the patron-in-chief on their official website, today.

According to the constitution of the PCB, the Prime Minister of the country is the patron-in-chief of the board. Since Shahbaz Sharif has replaced Imran Khan as the PM of the country, therefore, the prior now takes the top-most position in the cricket board.

On the other hand, reports are circulating regarding the resignation of the current chairman of the PCB – Ramiz Raja, who was nominated by the ex-PM Imran Khan. Reports further suggest that a former PCB Chairman is in a strong position to take back the role.

Pakistan Cricket Board announces women’s cricket calendar for 2022-23

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the cricketing calendar for the women’s team that features eight international series and three domestic tournaments.

According to the cricketing calendar revealed by the PCB, the green shirts will participate in eight international series and three domestic events.

The international fixtures comprise ICC Women’s Championship matches, ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, and ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup.

The month of May will mark the first instance of Pakistan hosting ICC Women’s Championship matches as Sri Lanka will tour the country to play three ODIs. The tour also includes three T20Is.

Furthermore, Pakistan will host three more ICC Women’s Championship matches with Ireland touring the country for the first time in October. The two sides will also lock horns in as many T20Is.

The domestic season will roll into action with the first U19 T20 competition, which is a part of the pathway structure.

The top players from the junior event will then be able to participate in the senior women’s domestic season.

In September-October, the PCB will organize a Triangular T20 Cricket Women Championship and the season will then conclude with a 14-match Pakistan Women’s ODI Tournament in April with Karachi hosting the four-team event.

PCB postpone the plan of drop-in pitches installation

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has postponed the idea of installing the drop-in pitches in the country, ESPNcricinfo reported.

According to the details, the PCB, led by the chairman Ramiz Raja, has instead decided to appoint a consultant to assess if Australian-made pitches will be suitable for Pakistani conditions.

According to the initial idea, the PCB will first import Australian soil and seed it in various locations across the country to test the outcomes under the supervision of a consultant.

The Director National High-performance Center (NHPC) Nadeem Khan said it is Ramiz’s vision to improve the quality of the pitches.

“It was Ramiz Raja’s vision to improve the quality of pitches here. We, therefore, are hiring a consultant for the drop-in pitches,” he said.

“The consultant will come here in March/April. We don’t have drop-in pitch experts so we decided to get suggestions,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that Ramiz has emphasized improving the quality of pitches in the country since taking the charge as the chairman of PCB.

Zahid Mahmood replaces Mohammad Nawaz for white-ball series

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have confirmed that the leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood has replaced all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz in the white-ball series squad for the home series against Australia.

In a statement, released on the official website of the PCB, the cricket board have confirmed that the leg-spinner Zahid has replaced Nawaz in the white-ball series.

Nawaz, who sustained a foot injury during the seventh season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) could not recover in time.

Zahid, on the other hand, will join the white-ball series squad after the conclusion of the ongoing Test series between Pakistan and Australia.

Furthermore, Zahid will also act as a cover for the leg-spinner Shadab Khan.

In a PCB released statement, Chief Selector Mohammad Wasim said that Nawaz could not fully recover from the injury and Zahid, who is already a part of the Test squad is an ‘adequate replacement’.

“Unfortunately Mohammad Nawaz has not recovered fully from the foot injury he suffered during the [PSL 7[. We also need to reassess Shadab Khan’s fitness once he joins the squad before playing him in this high profile series which is very important for us in terms of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League points,” PCB quoted Wasim.

“Zahid has been with the team for the Tests and we feel he is an adequate replacement in the present situation and can potentially make a contribution to the team if needed.”

It is apropos to mention here that the white-ball series comprises of a three-match ODI series and one-off T20I will roll into action from March 29 here.

PCB formally inducts Javed Miandad into the Hall of Fame

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have formally inducted the batting great and former captain Javed Miandad into the Hall of Fame, here on Saturday.

Miandad, who is one of the best Pakistan batters to ever play this great sport, has been formally inducted into the PCB Hall of fame. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) PCB Faisal Hasnain presented a commemorative cap and plaque to the legendary batter.

Miandad, who is considered one of the greatest batters, scored 16,213 international runs with 31 centuries in 357 matches during his prolonged career from 1975 to 1996. In his 402-matches first-class career, the right-handed batter 28,663 runs at an average of over 53 with 80 centuries and 139 half-centuries.

In a PCB released statement, Miandad said he is humbled and overwhelmed by the appreciation and said it is appropriate that these inductions are taking place when a former international cricketer is in the charge of Pakistan cricket affairs.

“I feel humbled and honoured to have been inducted into the PCB Hall of Fame. It is appropriate that these inductions are taking place when an international cricketer is at the helm of Pakistan cricket affairs as he understands better than anyone else the hard work and sacrifices a cricketer makes to reach the top pedestal,” he said.

“Every time I stepped [onto] the field of play, I wanted to contribute [to] my team and country through my performance. To make this happen, I developed my own training and preparation plans using innovative methods visualising the oppositions and conditions I would encounter. I am delighted my efforts produced good results and I was able to serve my team and country with performances that made us a proud cricketing nation,” he was quoted saying.

Miandad further thanked his fans for the immense support and an overwhelming response throughout his astonishing career, while he also stated that he was fortunate to have ‘outstanding contemporaries’ who supported and encouraged him.

Taking to Twitter, Pakistan Cricket shared the picture of Faisal presenting the commemorative cap and plaque to Miandad.

 

It is pertinent to mention here that Miandad was just the second batter in the history of cricket after Gordon Greenidge to score centuries in debut and 100th Test.

PCB calls meeting to discuss PSL 7 preparations for Lahore leg

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) held an important meeting at the National High-Performance Center (NHPC) for the preparations of the second-leg matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The high-profile meeting for the preparations of the league’s upcoming matches in Lahore was presided by Deputy Commissioner Lahore – Umer Sher Chattha. Several members of the PCB, district administration, and law enforcement agencies attended the meeting.

The meeting directed the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) to maintain complete cleanliness inside and around the stadium. Whereas, ordered the district administration to arrange shuttle bus service from designated places for the convenience of the fans.

Furthermore, a 25-bed hospital will also be set up soon to combat any unpleasant situation.

It is worth mentioning here that the second phase of the PSL 7 will start from February 10 in Lahore.
