PCB to deny players NOC for BBL participation: Reports

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to deny no-objection certificates (NOCs) to Pakistan players from participating in the Big Bash League (BBL), ESPN Cricinfo reported.

According to the reports, the PCB has decided to refuse Pakistan players – contracted or not contracted – from participating in the forthcoming BBL reportedly due to a packed cricketing calendar ahead.

The cricket board, on the other hand, has not clarified whether it will allow its players to compete in the UAE’s International T20 League and Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) league.

It is worth noting that there was no Pakistani player among the 98 overseas players who entered the BBL Draft. However, there were speculations that the big names would put themselves up before the deadline.

Similarly, no Pakistani player has signed up for the UAE’s cash-rich ILT20, despite rumours that national players will be given major contracts.

Australian soil reaches Pakistan for PCB pitches initiative

KARACHI: The imported Australian soil has reached the Jinnah International Airport here as part of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) pitches plan.

Following a successful visit by Adelaide Oval expert pitch curator Damien Hough, imported Australian soil as part of the PCB’s initiative to build improved pitches has arrived in the country.

According to the details, the PCB awaits the clearance of the soil at the airport before seeding it into several stadiums and cricket grounds across the country.

The initial reports suggested that the PCB aims to seed the soil to make Australia’s sort of pitches in major stadiums like National Stadium, Gaddafi Stadium, Pindi Stadium, including Naya Nazimabad Cricket Ground.

Pakistan Test team returns to the country after Sri Lanka tour

LAHORE: Pakistan Test team on Friday landed in the country via Dubai after the conclusion of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.

According to the details, Pakistan all-format captain Babar Azam, alongside Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Imam-ul-Haq, Abdullah Shafique, Faheem Ashraf, Salman Ali Agha, Azhar Ali, and Shan Masood reached Allama Iqbal International Airport here.

Pakistan speedster Hairs Rauf, leg-spinner Yasir Shah, and all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz, on the other hand, landed at Islamabad International Airport.

Whereas, former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, Nauman Ali, Fawad Alam, and Saud Shakeel reached Jinnah Terminal, Karachi on Friday morning.

Pakistan right-arm pacer, Hasan Ali, however, will be staying in Dubai, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed.

It is pertinent to mention here that Sri Lanka thrashed Pakistan by 246 runs in the second Test to level the two-match Test series 1-1. Following a humiliating defeat in the last test of the series, the Green Shirts have slipped to fifth in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.

Imran, Munro become mentors of two Pakistan Junior League teams

LAHORE: Former South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir and New Zealand explosive batter Colin Munro has been appointed as the mentors for the two teams of the upcoming Pakistan Junior League (PJL).

The two foreign cricketers will join former Pakistan and West Indian captains Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, and Darren Sammy as the team mentors. The legendary Pakistan batter Javed Miandad, on the other hand, has already been appointed tournament mentor.

With the inclusion of Munro and Imran, the overall tally of team mentors has risen to five. Whereas, the sixth team mentor will be announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in the due course.

In a PCB released statement, Imran expressed delight at being appointed as a team mentor for the PJL, while also asserting that he backs the idea of the junior league as it will amplify the pool of players for the country.

“Returning to Lahore for the Pakistan Junior League in a team mentor’s role is one of my most satisfying achievements as I still owe a lot to my country of birth. This is an exciting opportunity to work with emerging slow bowlers and help them develop and flourish so that they have a chance to emulate the great spinners this country has produced,” Imran stated.

“I am fully behind the philosophy of Pakistan Junior League as this creates a tough and challenging environment for the players with high expectations, and only those who will clear this scale will go leaps and bounds in their careers. With the amount of international cricket being played, this event will help Pakistan to amplify their pool of players, which, in turn, will increase playing opportunities and earning the prized national cap,” he added.

Explosive Kiwi batter Munro, on the other hand, termed the initiative as a game-changer for Pakistan cricket and lauded the PCB for investing in youngsters and securing the future of the game.

“I am excited to be part of the inaugural Pakistan Junior League, which I believe will be a game-changer for Pakistan cricket. Investing in youngsters, securing the future of the game and ensuring the national side continues to move in an upward direction should be the objectives of all administrators and I think the PCB has taken a lead here by launching this tournament, which will expose the young talent to the rigours and demands of top-level cricket and help Pakistan in the longer run,” Munro stated.

 

“Working with youngsters, sharing knowledge and helping them grow in their careers is something that interests and excites me, and I am really looking forward to being a part of the Pakistan Junior League. Having seen firsthand experienced the tremendous talent at the HBL Pakistan Super League, I have no doubts the Pakistan Junior league will produce future champions of world cricket,” he added.

The six-team PJL will roll into action on October 4, while the final of the event will take place on October 17. The first of its sort T20 league will be contested by under-19 teams and will feature local as well as international players. The teams will recruit the young players via a draft system.

Pakistan Cricket Team celebrates Eid-ul-Adha amid Sri Lanka Tour

COLOMBO: Pakistan National Men’s Cricket Team, who are on the tour of Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series, celebrated Eid-ul-Adha here today.

Pakistan Test squad offered Eid prayers at the team hotel here before the team officials, players, and support staff greeted each other on this auspicious event.

Taking to Twitter, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also shared the footage of the Pakistani contingent greeting each other after performing Eid prayers.

Following Eid celebrations, the Green Shirts have started their practice session today for the upcoming series as the team could not hit the training drills following the political unrest and protest in the country.

 

It is pertinent to mention here that the Green Shirts will kick off their Sri Lanka tour with a warm-up match on July 12, followed by two Tests, scheduled from July 16 to 28.

National Under-19 one-day Cup to kick off tomorrow

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) named 12 squads of six Cricket Associations for the forthcoming National U19 one-day Cup, set to commence on June 8 in five cities including Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Sheikhupura.

According to PCB, the National U19 Cup will feature 12 teams and will stage 31 matches among them. The tournament will take place at five different venues from June 28 to July 8.

In an attempt to foster a competitive competition and reduce the gap between domestic and international cricketers, the PCB has acquired the services of senior coaches, who will be leading the support staff of the respective squads featuring in the event.

According to an official statement released by the PCB, the coaching panel includes Abdul Razzaq, Aizaz Cheema, Arshad Khan, Humayun Farhat, Ijaz Ahmed Jnr, Imran Farhat and Zahoor Elahi.

On the other hand, the former cricketers, who are part of the coaching staff are Ghulam Ali, Rafatullah Mohmand, Shahid Anwar, Shoaib Khan and Samiullah Khan Niazi.

While six Whites squads are in Pool B and have matches scheduled in Faisalabad, Lahore, and Sheikhupura. The six Blues squads have been placed in Pool A and will play their games in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Ramiz chairs as the 69th PCB BoG meeting gets underway at NHPC today

LAHORE: The 69th Board of Governing (BoG) meeting of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) started at the National High-Performance Center (NHPC) today under the presidency of the Chairman PCB Ramiz Raja.

The high-profile meeting of the cricket board commenced under the presidency of Ramiz and was also attended by Chief Executive Officer Faisal Hasnain and Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer.

According to the details, The essential topics pertaining to Pakistani cricket will be discussed, and attendees will also approve the upcoming yearly budget.

At the meeting, the men’s and women’s cricket teams’ performance reports will also be delivered. The board members will then receive a briefing regarding Australia’s historic tour of Pakistan and the tour of the West Indian side.

Reports further suggest that the PCB Central Contracts 2022–2023 will also likely be ratified at the same meeting, giving players a significant raise in pay.

It is pertinent to mention here that the PCB Chairman Ramiz will hold a press conference at the NHPC tomorrow to discuss the outcome of the meeting.

‘I’ll be there at any time’ Wasim Akram ready to assist PCB

MANCHESTER: Pakistan’s former captain and legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram expressed his willingness to help the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and serve the cricket in Pakistan whenever the board asks for his assistance.

The legendary cricketer in his exclusive talk to this reporter revealed that he would be ready to serve in any capacity whenever the board approaches him for his services to the betterment of Pakistan cricket.

“I provided assistance from time to time whenever the PCB has asked me in the past”, claimed Akram. “I’ll be there at any minute if the PCB asks me for help in the future as well.”

The legendary cricketer showed his naivety when he was asked why he was not offered any role by the PCB yet.

“It is a tough question and I am not able to answer this,” he replied. “In fact, the PCB should be asked this question.”

The legendary pacer gave all the credit to his fans and the homeland for his successful career.

“Whatever I am today, it is because of Pakistan and my fans,” claimed Akram.

Second phase of the PCB Conditioning Camp kicks off at NHPC today

LAHORE: The second phase of the players’ conditioning camp under the supervision of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), kicked off at the National High-Performance Center (NHPC) today.

The second phase of the camp also commenced with an introductory session as the head coach Saqlain Mushtaq, and the bowling coach of the NHPC Umar Rasheed explained the purpose of the camp to the players.

The batting coach Muhammad Yousuf and the former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq also attended the introductory session.

All the 33 players were present on the opening day of the camp and also participated in the net and fielding sessions post-introduction sessions.

PCB unveils match officials for Pakistan-Sri Lanka women series

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has unveiled the match officials for the Pakistan women’s cricket team’s upcoming home series against Sri Lanka, here on Wednesday.

The PCB Umpire of the Year 2020 Asif Yaqoob, alongside Faisal Afridi, Imtiaz Iqbal and Imran Jawed will alternatively serve as the on-field and reserve umpire duties during the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka women.

Ali Naqvi, on the other hand, will be the match referee for the T20I series while Mohammad Javed Malik will perform the refereeing duties for the ODIs.

 

The Sri Lankan team will land in Karachi on 19th May, the two teams will compete in a three-match T20I series with matches scheduled for 24, 26 and 28 May. The first-ever tour also comprises three ODIs which are a part of the ICC Women’s Championship, scheduled on 1, 3 and 5 June.
