Selectors suggest changes in national team’s middle order: Sources

KARACHI: The two selectors of the national selection committee suggested making changes in the national men’s cricket team’s middle order ahead of the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022, sources claimed.

Two national selectors reportedly proposed making changes in the national contingent for the ongoing historic T20I series against England as a result of the middle order’s repeated failures.

The selectors recommended leaving out power hitter Khushdil Shah and adding veteran batters Shoaib Malik and Haris Sohail to the squad for the England T20Is.

The selectors also advised to include Shoaib and Haris in the squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia if the duo perform well in the ongoing England T20Is.

It is pertinent to mention that England edged past Pakistan in the series opener in a rather convincing fashion by six wickets as the hosts’ middle-order failure barred them from posting a respectable total and could finish at 158/7 in the allotted 20 overs.

PCB refutes reports of ‘NOCs denial to players for BBL, other leagues’

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has denied ESPN Cricinfo‘s report that claimed the cricket board will not allow players to participate in Big Bash League (BBL), UAE International League T20 (ILT20), and other franchise cricket leagues around the world.

In an official statement, released by the PCB, the cricket board turned down the claims of ESPN Cricinfo, while also terming their story ‘baseless, factually inaccurate and speculative’.

The renowned cricket website asserted that players will not be given No-Objection Certificates (NOC) for lucrative leagues around the world, whether or not they are centrally contracted or not.

“There is a growing sense of frustration among the top players in Pakistan, who feel they are missing out on big monetary gains,” Cricinfo reported.

As a result, the PCB has issued a clarification and claimed that the cricket board allows its players to apply for a maximum of three NOCs per year, excluding the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and is flexible in issuing additional NOCs if these did not coincide with its international series or domestic competitions.

“The PCB is extremely disappointed that a credible, reputable and widely followed media outlet like ESPNCricinfo breached all professional and ethical norms and published the story using inappropriate adjectives, which has the potential to create a crack in the smooth, healthy and cordial relationship between the PCB and all its stakeholders,” PCB’s statement read.

Australia remain unbeaten as Pakistan end CWG campaign victory-less

BIRMINGHAM: The Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team’s Commonwealth Games 2022 campaign came to a disappointing conclusion when Australia defeated the national team in the group stage to hand the latter their third consecutive defeat in the event.

After losing the opening two matches against Barbados and India respectively, the Green Shirts failed to shine in their third match against Australia as well.

Following three defeats in the Group stage, Pakistan’s chances of capturing the medal ended in the cricket event.

In the match, Pakistan bowlers started on a high as they removed two Australian batters Alyssa Healy and Meg Lanning at a combined score of 19 before Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath scored half-centuries to bolster the side to a commendable 160/2 in the allotted 20 overs.

McGrath top-scored with a magnificent knock of 78 runs off 51 deliveries, laced with 10 boundaries and a six. Mooney, on the other hand, followed back with a brilliant 70 off 49 balls with the help of eight boundaries and a six and remained unbeaten in the process.

For Pakistan, only Fatima Sana and Sidra Iqbal managed to make one scalp each.

Set to chase 161, Pakistan’s batting line-up failed completely and could only manage to score 116/8 in 20 overs, falling 44 runs short of the target.

Captain Bismah Maroof was among the runs for her team but once again conceded too many deliveries as she scored 23 off 32 deliveries with the help of just one boundary. All-rounder Omaima Sohail, on the other hand, scored a run-a-ball 23.

Fatima bettered her 4/41 with the bat as she played an astounding and unbeaten knock of 35 runs off a mere 26 deliveries including two boundaries and as many sixes.

For Australia, McGrath also led the bowling chart with three wickets, while Megan Schutt, Darcie Brown, Jess Jonassen, and Alana King struck out a batter apiece.
