PCB Director Infrastructure provides update on Gaddafi Stadium upgradation

LAHORE: PCB Director of Infrastructure Jawad Qazi has assured that the renovation work at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium is in its final stages and will be completed before the upcoming tri-nation series, involving South Africa and New Zealand.

While speaking to the media here on Wednesday, he provided key updates on the progress, highlighting the rapid pace of work without compromising quality.

“All chairs in the stadium will be installed by tonight,” Qazi confirmed. “The finishing work for the pavilion and office buildings is done, and now we are moving on to placing the furniture.”

He further added that the debris outside the Gaddafi Stadium is being cleared, and cleaning work is also underway.

“PHA (Parks & Horticulture Authority) has started planting flowers, grass, and trees to enhance the stadium’s aesthetics,” Jawad Qazi shared.

He also expressed confidence that the stadium will be completed in time for the tri-nation series while revealing that eight new gates have been installed for better accessibility.

“Inside the stadium, all work has been completed. VIP pathways will be finalized within a day or two, while the rest are already prepared,” he added.

“We are ensuring that the work is done efficiently while maintaining high standards.”

PCB Director of Infrastructure also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the government departments and expressed his gratitude for their assistance in the project.

PCB announces schedule of tri-nation ODI series

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday announced the schedule for the upcoming tri-nation ODI series, featuring New Zealand and South Africa.

The series will be played on a single-league basis from 8 to 14 February, with Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium hosting the opening two matches and Karachi’s National Bank Stadium staging the final league match and the final.

Pakistan and New Zealand will kick off the tri-nation ODI series at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday, 8 February, with the first ball scheduled to be bowled at 14:00 (local time).

New Zealand will then face South Africa on Monday, 10 February, in a day match with the toss set for 09:00 (local time).

The action will shift to Karachi, where Pakistan will take on South Africa on 12 February in a day/night match at the National Bank Stadium, starting at 14:00 (local time).

The final will be played on Friday, 14 February, with the first ball to be bowled at 14:00 (local time).

Both Pakistan and New Zealand are scheduled to train at the Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday, 6 February, under lights, while South Africa’s first outing at the historic venue will be on the morning of Sunday, 9 February.

While the four matches at Gaddafi Stadium and National Bank Stadium will provide the three sides with an excellent opportunity to finalise preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, it will also be a perfect occasion for the PCB to showcase its redesigned and redeveloped venues to the world through its world-class broadcast.

At the Gaddafi Stadium, the spectator capacity has been increased, with new chairs installed throughout the venue.

Additionally, 480 state-of-the-art LED lights have been installed to enhance broadcast LUX levels, ensuring a superior viewing experience for fans worldwide. To further elevate the spectator experience, two giant digital replay screens – measuring 80 feet x 30 feet and 22 feet x 35 feet – have been installed.

A brand-new hospitality enclosure for players and officials is near completion, ensuring that the iconic stadium is fully operational to deliver an unparalleled experience for all stakeholders.

At the National Bank Stadium, significant enhancements have been made, including the creation of a new hospitality enclosure for players and officials at the University End. To improve broadcast coverage, 350 LED lights have been installed, ensuring optimal visibility for global audiences.

Two digital replay screens have already been fixed and 5,000 new chairs have been installed to enhance spectator comfort.

PCB shifts tri-nation series to Lahore and Karachi

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the relocation of the upcoming tri-nation ODI series involving New Zealand and South Africa on Wednesday.

The tri-nation ODI series was originally scheduled to be held in Multan in February, however, it has been relocated to the upgraded Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and National Bank Stadium in Karachi.

This decision reflects the PCB’s confidence in the readiness of these upgraded venues and their ability to deliver a world-class experience for players, officials, and fans alike. Further details regarding the series will be shared in due course.

The cricket board further provided an update regarding the aforementioned stadium, with Gaddafi Stadium’s being increased to 35,000 and new chairs installed throughout the venue.

These improvements are designed to ensure the stadium exceeds international standards for upcoming events.

Pakistan receives invitation from New Zealand for tri-nation series: Sources

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) received an invitation from the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) for a tri-nation T20I series ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup, sources claimed.

According to the sources, the PCB received an official invitation from the NZC to play a tri-nation T20I series featuring Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh.

The PCB has not responded to the invitation as of yet and the reports further suggest that the cricket board will respond after analyzing the schedule of the national team.

It is apropos to mention here that the Pakistan national cricket team will go through a busy season prior to the World Cup as announced by the PCB last month.

The season 2022-23 will commence with a three-match ODI home series against West Indies, followed by two Tests in Sri Lanka and three ODIs in the Netherlands.

The Green Shirts are then scheduled to participate in the Asia Cup 2022 n August-September followed by the home T20I series against England in September.
