Australian delegation satisfied with security briefing in Karachi

KARACHI: Cricket Australia (CA)’s four-member delegation comprised of security experts met security agencies representatives to get the briefing on security arrangements for international cricket in the metropolis. 

The delegation visited National Stadium here on Wednesday to get briefing over the security and logistic arrangements. Australia are scheduled to play a Test at this ground from March 3-7, 2022.

During their visit, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s representatives, high-ups from Rangers and SSU were present. The delegation was given a detailed briefing over the security arrangements nearby the ground.

The delegation has shown satisfaction over the security arrangements. Moreover, they will further review the arrangements during the upcoming tour of the West Indies to Pakistan. West Indies will play three T20Is and as many ODIs here from December 13-22.

Meanwhile, the Australian delegation will travel to Lahore and Rawalpindi to see security and logistic arrangements there. The two cities are scheduled to host the Aussies for Test, ODIs, and a T20I.

KARACHI: A four-member Cricket Australia (CA)’s delegation have reached here to review security, logistics arrangements, and COVID-19 situation in the country ahead of their scheduled tour early next year. 

The delegation based on security experts will visit Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore to look at the arrangements made by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The delegation will visit National Stadium here before going to Rawalpindi and Lahore.

They will return here to watch Pakistan vs West Indies – T20Is on December 13 and 14. The delegation is assisted by PCB’s Director International Cricket Zakir Khan and Director Security Colonel Asif.

It must be noted here that Australia will tour Pakistan next year in March-April to play three Tests, as many ODIs and a T20I.

‘Rizwan is an inspiration for all the players’ Saqlain Mushtaq

DUBAI: Pakistan team’s interim head coach Saqlain Mushtaq gave huge respect to wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan who played T20 World Cup 2021’s semi-final after spending two nights in ICU for chest infection treatment. 

While talking to the media, Saqlain said Rizwan showed great courage in playing the important game for Pakistan despite severe illness.

“I will play even if I lose my life. It will be an honor for me to play,” Saqlain shared Rizwan’s words before the match.

“Rizwan is an inspiration for all the players. His determination and courage boosted our confidence and we allowed him to play the match,” the head coach said.

Speaking about Hasan Ali, Saqlain said he is a fighter, and dropped catches are part of the game. “Such phases come in players’ life. They have to deal with it. Hasan is a fighter and an important player for us. He was sad last night but now he is okay,” Saqlain added.

Saqlain once again felt proud of his boys’ performance in the mega event and hopes that they will continue such performance in the future.

Pakistan remained unbeaten in the group stage of the extravaganza. The Green Shirts also beat their arch-rivals India for the first time in any World Cup that too by 10 wickets. They lost to Australia by five wickets in the semi-final.

‘You are a superstar’ Maxwell praises Haris

DUBAI: Australia’s all-rounder Glenn Maxwell highly praised Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf who rose to fame after playing under his captaincy for Melbourne Stars in Big Bash League (BBL). 

After the second T20 World Cup semi-final, Maxwell and Haris reunited for a picture and exchanged their signed shirts.

While sharing the picture on social media, Maxwell highly praised Haris for his rise in the Pakistan team.

“I’m so proud of how far this young man has come! What he has done for the Melbourne Stars and Pakistan cricket has been extraordinary! He is a fine human and a great teammate, and someone who I will always treasure as a friend. You are a superstar,” he wrote.

Fans, cricketers pay tribute to Rizwan’s courage

KARACHI: Pakistan’s wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan spent two nights in the ICU before scoring 67 off 52 balls against Australia in the second T20 World Cup 2021’s semi-final. 

Pakistan team’s medical representative confirmed it while talking to the media after Pakistan lost to Australia by five wickets.

“Rizwan suffered a severe chest infection and was admitted to hospital for treatment. He spent two nights in the ICU before playing today’s match,” the medical representative shared.

Soon after the statement, a picture of Rizwan from the ICU went viral on social media. The picture managed to gain massive attention and people paid tribute to the cricketer for showing great courage.

It must be noted here that Rizwan got swelling in his right cheek after being hit by Mitchell Starc’s bouncer during his fighting knock.

Pakistani fans were highly disappointed with the defeat but showed great intent to support Babar Azam XI who remained unbeaten in the group stage of the mega event. The Green Shirts won all of their five games in Group 2, also beating their arch-rivals India by 10 wickets in the extravaganza for the very first time.

‘We need to be careful against Shaheen Afridi’ Australian skipper

DUBAI: Australian skipper Aaron Finch praised Pakistan’s pacer Shaheen Afridi and said his team needs to be careful against him in second semi-final of T20 World Cup 2021 on November 11. 

While talking to the media before the all-important knock-out stage of the mega event, Finch said Shaheen is in good form and can be dangerous for them in the match.

“Shaheen is doing well in this tournament. We need to be careful against him and save wickets. He can be dangerous any day,” he said.

The Australian skipper is confident that his team keeps the potential to win in any situation. “Whether we bowl first or bat, we will try to play according to our strength. Our team is good and we can win in any situation,” he added.

ICC named match officials for T20 WC 2021 semi-finals

DUBAI: International Cricket Council (ICC) has named match officials for the semi-finals of T20 World Cup 2021. 

England will take on New Zealand in the first semi-final on November 10 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Marais Erasmus and Kumar Dharmasena will be the on-field umpires in this match followed by Nitin Menon (third umpire) and Paul Reiffel (fourth umpire), and David Boon (match referee).

Then, unbeaten Pakistan will play against Australia in the second semi-final of the tournament here at Dubai International Stadium on November 11. This match will be officiated by on-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Chris Gaffaney, third umpire Joel Wilson, fourth umpire Richard Illingworth and match referee Jeff Crowe.

The match officials for the final match will be named in due course.

It must be noted here that Asif led Pakistan to back-to-back wins against New Zealand and Afghanistan in T20 World Cup 2021.

Asif struck 27 off 12 balls in crunch moments to win the match for Pakistan against New Zealand. The powerful inning was followed by yet another eye-catching knock from him including four sixes in the 19th over to seal an important third victory in the extravaganza against Afghanistan.

Pakistan remained the only unbeaten team in the mega event and will play against Australia in the second semi-final on November 11 at Dubai International Stadium.
