West Indies women’s team reaches Pakistan for ODI, T20I series

KARACHI: The West Indies women’s cricket team has touched down here on Sunday morning to feature in eight white-ball matches against Pakistan, starting from 18 April.

The three ODIs – part of ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 – will be played between 18 and 23 April at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.

The ODI series will be followed by five T20Is, to be played at the same venue, starting from 26 April.

The ODIs are set to begin at 330pm PKT, while the first ball in the T20Is will be bowled at 730pm PKT.

Pakistan Women’s team kicks off training for West Indies series

KARACHI: Pakistan women’s cricket team on Tuesday, began their preparations for the upcoming home white-ball series against the West Indies, scheduled to commence on April 18.

According to the details, the 20-member Pakistan squad conducted a robust training session at Hanif Mohammad’s High-Performance Centre (HPC) here.

The national players were engaged in rigorous fielding drills and also participated in the net sessions.

The training camp will conclude on April 8.

West Indies are scheduled to arrive in Karachi on 14 April to feature in eight white-ball matches, including three ODIs, which are part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25.

The three ODI matches will be played at the National Bank Stadium (NBS) in Karachi on 18, 21 and 23 April.

The ODI series will be followed by five T20Is, to be played at the same venue, starting from 26 April.

PCB announces 20 probables for West Indies women series

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday unveiled the probables for the upcoming home series against the West Indies women’s team.

The women’s national selection committee led by Saleem Jaffar has named 20 probables for the forthcoming white-ball series scheduled to take place at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi from 18 April to 3 May.

The series includes three ODIs – part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 and five T20Is.

The first ball in the ODIs (18, 21 and 23 April) will be bowled at 3:30 pm, while the T20Is (26, 28, 30 April, 2 and 3 May) will begin at 7:30 pm.

Ayesha Zafar (29 ODIs, 20 T20Is), Gul Feroza (2 ODIs), Rameen Shamim (3 ODIs, 4T20Is), Sidra Nawaz (67 ODIs, 56 T20Is) and Tuba Hassan (1 ODI, 21 T20Is) are the players making a comeback.

Omaima Sohail and Shawaal Zulfiqar (recovering from a shoulder injury), who were part of the 17-member squad that was named for the last bilateral series against the New Zealand women’s team, have been omitted from the camp probables.

The selection committee in consultation with the captain and interim head coach will announce the 15-member squad for the ODI series during the camp in Karachi.

The remaining five players of the probables camp will be released to take part in the domestic Women’s One-Day Tournament (to be announced in due course).

“The selection committee has chosen 20 probable players based on their performances in both domestic and international circuits,” said Chief Selector Saleem Jaffar.

“Ayesha Zafar, Gul Feroza, Rameen Shamim, Sidra Nawaz, and Tuba Hassan have been added to the probables camp following their performances in the last domestic event, as we aim to broaden our pool of players.

“The upcoming series against West Indies, which includes ICC Women’s Championship matches, is of utmost importance as we strive to earn maximum points to strengthen our claim for direct qualification in the ICC Women’s 50-over World Cup.”

The 20-member squad will assemble in Karachi on Monday, 1 April and will undergo a seven-day camp in Karachi from 2 April at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre. The squad members and the team management will return to their hometown on 9 April for Eid and the squad will assemble again in Karachi on 13 April.

LAHORE: The Chairman of the PCB management committee Zaka Ashraf has congratulated the Pakistan women’s team on their historic first ODI victory over New Zealand in New Zealand.

Pakistan women’s team registered the historic victory over New Zealand in the Super Over after the third ODI initially ended in a dramatic tie in Christchurch.

“I want to congratulate the entire squad, team management and support personnel for completing the tour to New Zealand with great success,” said Zaka Ashraf.

“Today’s ODI win is a testament to the skills and dedication of the players.”

“I hope the team continues to give their best and bring similar results in the future as well.”

Zaka Ashraf also announced that PCB will be hosting a special ceremony felicitating the Pakistan women’s team upon their return from the tour of New Zealand.

Pakistan women’s team set New Zealand to chase 12 runs in the super over and Sadia Iqbal successfully defended the total as she picked their two allocated wickets after giving eight runs.

Prior to that, New Zealand opted to bat after the coin flipped in their favour but could not get the desired start as they slipped to 43-2 inside 15 overs.

Amelia Kerr and captain Sophie Devine then raised a 56-run partnership for the third wicket, before Ghulam Fatima castled Devine to break the stand.

Kerr was then joined by Maddy Green and they built a solid partnership of 73 runs, completing their respective half-centuries in the process.

Ghulam Fatima once again broke the partnership by dismissing Kerr at a total of 169.

Kerr top-scored for New Zealand with an anchoring 77-run knock from 87 balls, laced with five boundaries.

Green remained firm on her end, while wickets kept tumbling from the other end.

However, she was involved in a brief 40-run partnership with Jessica Kerr (19) to help push the team’s total to 251-8 in their allocated 50 overs.

Green remained unbeaten at 65 from 69, with the help of three boundaries.

Ghulam Fatima and Nashra Sandhu returned with figures of 2-59 each for Pakistan, while Umm-e-Hani also bagged one wicket.

In response, the Pakistan women’s team lost their first two wickets with only 37 runs on the scoreboard.

However, Bismah Maroof and Aliya Riaz helped their side stabilize with a partnership of 101 runs for the third wicket before Jessica Kerr caught and bowled Riaz.

Riaz scored a cautious 44 off 84, featuring four boundaries.

Maroof was then joined by captain Fatima Sana and they added a quick 35 runs for the fourth wicket but Fran Jonas ended Maroof’s stay at a total of 173.

New Zealand women’s team defeat Pakistan in a close encounter to clinch ODI series

CHRISTCHURCH: The New Zealand women’s team defeated the Pakistan women’s team in a close encounter by one wicket in the second ODI match to clinch the three-match ODI series.

New Zealand were leading the series 1-0 after winning the opening game, and the victory in the second match gave them a series-winning lead of 2-0.

The hosts invited Pakistan to bat first and reduced to 35-4 in 12 overs.

However, Pakistan captain Fatima Sana scored an impressive unbeaten 90 from 104 balls with the help of seven boundaries and one six to help her side reach 220.

Other notable contributors were Natalia Pervaiz with 39 and Najiha Alvi with 32 runs.

Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Sophie Devine returned with bowling figures of 3-25.

In response, New Zealand lost two early wickets to Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana.

However, Suzie Bates and Maddy Green knitted a solid 142-run partnership to bring New Zealand’s chase on track before Ghulam Fatima dismissed both players.

Bates scored 74 off 91 with the help of eight boundaries, whereas, Green scored 83 runs from 96 balls, featuring five boundaries.

Ghulam Fatima picked two more wickets to reduce New Zealand to 182-6 in the 40th over.

Pakistan Women’s team suffers major setbacks on New Zealand tour

Pakistan Women’s team on Tuesday, suffered two major setbacks as their all-format captain Nida Dar and right-arm pacer Diana Baig sustained injuries amid their ongoing white-ball tour of New Zealand.

“Pakistan captain Nida Dar was taken off the field after being struck on her face while bowling in the 44th over of the New Zealand innings in the first ODI at John Davies Oval in Queenstown,” the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement.

“After assessing Nida’s condition, the team physio has determined that Nida will not take any further part in today’s ODI,” the statement added.

Right-handed batter Sadaf Shams came in as Dar’s replacement while pacer Fatima Sana served as the stand-in captain.

Ahead of the first ODI of the three-match series against New Zealand, right-arm fast bowler Diana Baig suffered a blow to the index finger of her bowling arm, which consequently ruled her out of the rest of the series.

“Right-arm fast bowler Diana Baig has been ruled out of the ODI series against New Zealand women due to a finger injury,” shared PCB.

“28-year-old Diana, while fielding in a practice session, suffered an injury to the index finger of her bowling arm. Immediately after the incident, she was taken to a local hospital for a thorough examination, including an X-ray.

“The medical reports have confirmed a horizontal fracture in Diana Baig’s index finger, making her unavailable for the ODI series against the White Ferns.

“The PCB medical team is closely monitoring her condition, and she will undergo further assessments to determine the extent of the injury and the necessary course of action for her recovery.”

Shawaal Zulfiqar ruled out for six weeks with an injury

QUEENSTOWN: Shawaal Zulfiqar has been ruled out of competitive cricket for six weeks after suffering a right shoulder injury while fielding during the second T20I against New Zealand women at the University of Otago Oval in Dunedin on Tuesday, 5 December.

Following the injury, she was taken to the hospital and underwent X-rays on her injured shoulder, revealing an AC joint sprain. Later, the Ultrasound results indicated no signs of muscular tear.

The decision on Shawaal’s departure will be made in due course. Until then, the team physiotherapist will continue to monitor her condition.

Pakistan defeated the New Zealand women’s team by seven wickets and 10 runs in the first two matches of the T20I series in Dunedin to take an unassailable lead.

However, the White Ferns defeated Pakistan by six runs on DLS in the third T20I to secure a consolation win in a three-match series.

Nida Dar-led Pakistan beat New Zealand by 10 runs in the second T20I in Dunedin on Tuesday to gain an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
