KARACHI: West Indies women’s captain Hayley Matthews scored an unbeaten century, followed by three wickets to help her team thump the Pakistan women’s team in the first ODI of the three-match series at National Bank Stadium here on Thursday.

While chasing 270, Pakistan bundled out for 156 in 35.5 overs, succumbing to a 113-run loss.

The hosts had a shaky start as they slipped to 24-2 in five overs before Muneeba Ali and the captain Nida Dar (19) constructed a 35-run stand to stabilize the chase.

However, Matthews removed her Pakistani counterpart to break the partnership with 59 runs on the board.

Ali was then departed courtesy of a run-out after scoring 22 off 33 with a solitary boundary.

Aliya Riaz (16) and Fatima Sana (10) were then involved in a brief 28-run partnership before Afy Fletcher removed both batters in consecutive overs.

Najiha Alvi (20) and Tuba Hassan’s partnership of 37 off 38 pushed the team’s total to 137 but Zaida James dismissed the latter to apply brakes.

Hassan top-scored for Pakistan with 25 runs from 23 balls, featuring two boundaries.

Alvi fell prey to Matthews before the Pakistan team bundled out for 156 as James got Sadia Iqbal’s wicket.

Matthews topped the bowling charts with the figures of 3-17, while James and Fletcher contributed with two wickets each.

Earlier, Matthews decided to bat first against Pakistan after winning the toss, but the hosts drew first blood as Rashada Williams fell prey to Sadia Iqbal in the third over.

Shemaine Campbelle joined her skipper and together they knitted a solid 102-run partnership to push the team’s total to 103 inside 24 overs.

Tuba Hassan brought the Pakistan women’s team back into the match, breaking the partnership, followed by another wicket in the next over to reduce West Indies to 106-3.

Campbelle went back to the pavilion after scoring a cautious 45-run knock from 71 balls with the help of four boundaries.

Matthews led from the front and took charge against Pakistan bowlers, while wickets kept falling from the other end.

The skipper was involved in notable partnerships of 40 and 42 runs with Chinelle Henry (23) and Aaliyah Alleyne (17) respectively.

However, none of the batters could pose much threat to Pakistan bowlers, while Matthews remained unfazed and completed his fifth ODI century.

She carried her bat through the innings and registered her highest individual score of 140 off 150, which featured 15 boundaries and one six.

Meanwhile, Karishma Ramharack also remained unbeaten at five as West Indies scored 269-8 in their allocated 50 overs.

Sadia Iqbal and Tuba Hassan led Pakistan’s bowling attack with two wickets, while Nida Dar and Nashra Sandhu picked one wicket each.

KARACHI: The West Indies women’s cricket team has touched down here on Sunday morning to feature in eight white-ball matches against Pakistan, starting from 18 April.

The three ODIs – part of ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 – will be played between 18 and 23 April at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.

The ODI series will be followed by five T20Is, to be played at the same venue, starting from 26 April.

The ODIs are set to begin at 330pm PKT, while the first ball in the T20Is will be bowled at 730pm PKT.
