The 2020 champions started the tournament with an emphatic victory against Multan Sultans, chasing a mammoth 235. The Kings also defeated Quetta Gladiators convincingly by 56 runs.

Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen proposes formation of board to drive PSL growth

LAHORE: Ali Tareen, the owner of Multan Sultans, has proposed forming a board to promote the future growth of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

While speaking during the match between Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars, Ali proposed forming a board to foster the league’s growth.

“If we are stuck in one place, we will not grow. A formal board should be established after PSL Season 10 to draft a strategy to take the league to the next level,” he said.

“I’m not claiming that everything has failed or been destroyed, but we should revitalize so we can grow collectively,” he added.

Addressing ticketing concerns, Tareen pointed out that online tickets often show as sold out in Multan but become available just before matches.

“Online tickets often show as sold out in Multan, but they become available just before the matches. There should be an investigation into this matter,” he said.

Ali Tareen expressed his commitment to Multan’s Sultans, saying he is not looking to sell the franchise despite incurring financial losses.

“We are not looking to sell; we have heavily invested in this team. Although we have faced, and are still facing significant financial loss, we aim to acquire the franchise next year at the same valuation,” said Ali Tareen.

He reiterated that he is not looking to leave the Multan Sultans, stating that they want to rebid next season.

“There is no chance we will leave Multan Sultans. We just want to rebid on the franchise at a fair valuation,” he concluded.

A few days earlier, Ali Tareen echoed similar sentiments, stating that they were reassessing their franchise agreement, but there are no immediate plans to exit.

“I never said I’m abandoning Multan Sultans,” Tareen said. “We are simply exploring options to re-evaluate our franchise agreement after the tenth edition of the HBL PSL.” he remarked.

PSL 10: Sikandar, Mitchell power Lahore Qalandars to victory over Multan Sultans

LAHORE: Sikandar Raza and Daryl Mitchell’s sublime knocks powered Lahore Qalandars to a five-wicket win over Multan Sultans in the 16th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 here at Gaddafi Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Lahore Qalandars chased down the 186-run total on the loss of five wickets in the 19th over, thanks to impressive knocks from Sikandar Raza and Daryl Mitchell.

The home team’s chase started on a shaky note as the emerging batter, Mohammad Naeem (6), failed to impress once again and was dismissed in the second over.

Despite an early wicket, Qalandars’ innings continued as Fakhar Zaman formed a brief 33-run partnership with Abdullah Shafique, advancing the score to 45 in just 6 overs. The left-hander led the charge with 28 runs off 22 balls, belting Akif Javed for two sixes in an over before getting dismissed.

Multan Sultans sensed a comeback after Fakhar’s wicket; however, Abdullah Shafique and Daryl Mitchell forged a vital 49-run stand to lift them out of trouble. Qalandars were cruising at 94-2 in 11.1 overs, but it was Ubaid Shah’s double-wicket over that brought the visiting team back into the game.

The right-arm pacer struck twice to remove Shafique and Sam Billings. Abdullah Shafique went after scoring 34 off 25 balls, striking two fours and an equal number of sixes, while Billings was gone without scoring.

The game seemed to be heading Multan’s way in the 12th over, with Qalandars requiring 95 off 48 balls. However, Sikandar Raza and Daryl Mitchell created an 89-run partnership that took the game away from Multan Sultans.

Both batters played briskly, scoring a flurry of boundaries in each over. Daryl was dismissed on the second last ball of the 18th over, after scoring an enterprising 64 off 38 balls, with the help of four sixes and four elegant fours.

Following the wicket, Usman Khan partnered with Mohammad Rizwan for a brief partnership of 21, before the former’s dismissal on the score of 18. Usman scored 18 off 14 deliveries with the help of two fours and a six.

Lahore Qalandars continued to pressure the visitors by dismissing Shai Hope, who was out for 9 at the halfway stage of the innings.

However, it was Kamran Ghulam’s and Mohammad Rizwan’s partnership that shifted the momentum. The duo formed a formidable 115-run stand on 59 balls, taking Sultans to an impressive total.

“You sent Asif Ali to open, who has zero technique. He is not a technically sound batter, but only a power hitter. I personally witnessed his technique in the nets; he just swings his bat,” he observed.

The 40-year-old emphasized the technical aspects of Asif Ali’s batting, stating that Asif had no idea how to play a new ball against a quality fast bowler.

“Tackling the new ball against a quality fast bowler, especially on a pitch where the ball is likely to deviate, requires technical skills. Ali’s dismissal clearly showed that he had no clue that Luke Wood’s delivery would inswing,” Tanvir said.
