Lahore Qalandars suffer major blow ahead of PSL 10 resumption

Lahore Qalandars faced a significant blow ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 resumption as their ace all-rounder, David Wiese, has opted out of the remaining matches.

While speaking on a sports platform, David Wiese shed light on the situation that unfolded during the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.

“Unfortunately, I saw the toll it took on my family, and I think the toughest thing was that we in Pakistan know how far we are away from the borders, and you know the security and everything there,” he said.

”But if you haven’t been there and are just watching the news, you would think it is an active war zone and that lives were in danger the whole time,” Wiese added.

David emphasised the decision of not participating in the remaining matches of the PSL, however, he remained optimistic for the next year’s edition.

“Ultimately it was the big decision for me to leave the tournament originally, and also decided that I am not going to be heading back for the remainder of the tournament.”

“I’ve told everybody that I’m not going to be back this year, but next year again, definitely very keen to be going back again,” he explained.

Daryl Mitchell clears the air about playing in Pakistan amidst Indian media reports

New Zealand’s all-rounder Daryl Mitchell shared his thoughts regarding the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, clarifying Indian media reports suggesting he would not visit the country in the future.

The tensions between India and Pakistan reached fever-pitch following an attack last month in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) town of Pahalgam that killed 26 tourists.

However, the situation returned to normal after an immediate ceasefire on Saturday, following days of deadly jet fighter, missile, drone and artillery attacks.

Due to the growing tensions, PSL 10 was postponed indefinitely, leading to the return of overseas players to their home countries.

Mitchell, who was playing for Lahore Qalandars, was also among the players who returned home after the marquee event’s postponement.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday announced the postponement of the remaining eight matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.

“The last 24 hours have seen a worsening of the situation on the LOC, increased incursion of 78 drones, and the firing of surface to surface missiles from India,” PCB said in a statement.

The decision to postpone PSL 10 has been made based on advice from Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.

“The reckless aggression from India that has escalated to a point where national attention and sentiments are rightly focused on the courageous efforts of the Armed Forces of Pakistan, who are vociferously upholding the sovereignty of our beloved Pakistan.”

PCB has expressed appreciation for the contributions made by its partners, franchises, participating players, broadcasters, sponsors, and organizers that have helped ensure the tournament runs smoothly.

“The PCB recognizes the efforts and support of its partners, franchises, participating players, broadcasters, sponsors, and organizers in having ensured the smooth conduct of the tournament thus far,” the statement said.

“However, cricket, while being a unifying force and a source of joy, must take a respectful pause when the country is facing such callous opposition.”

“We, at the PCB, also have sincere regard for the mental well-being of participating players and the sentiments of our foreign players, and we respect the concerns of their families who want to see them back home,” it concluded.

“The PCB has always stood by the position that politics and sports need to be kept apart.

“However, in view of the extremely irresponsible and dangerous Indian act of targeting the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, which was manifestly done to disrupt the ongoing HBL Pakistan Super League X, the PCB has decided to shift the remaining matches to UAE.

This is so that the domestic as well as foreign cricketers, who are our precious guests, can be saved from the possible reckless targeting by India,” he said.
