“Hassan Nawaz’s knock was a complete package and an absolute joy to watch,” he said.

Ramiz Raja credited Hasan with helping Quetta Gladiators reach a record PSL total, stating that the youngster’s game awareness helped his team set up a formidable target.

Iftikhar Ahmed opens up on Multan Sultans’ struggles in PSL 10

Multan Sultans’ middle-order batter Iftikhar Ahmed has shared his thoughts on the team’s disappointing campaign in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10.

The 2021 champions and the last three seasons’ runners-up had a dismal campaign, losing eight out of nine matches. They are currently languishing bottom of the table with only two points.

Multan Sultans failed with the bat and ball in the tournament, with poor fielding being particularly noticeable.

Their misery with the bat was evident in the match against Peshawar Zalmi, where they crumbled for 108 in 19.1 overs.

The defeat set an unwanted record for Multan Sultans as they became the only team in the tournament’s history to be bowled out for under 120 runs four times in a single season.

While speaking on a private TV channel, Iftikhar Ahmed expressed disappointment over the quality of cricket, mentioning that they have been unable to perform as they did in previous years.

“We have lost eight matches out of nine. You have to play quality cricket in the PSL, which we have been playing for the past four years,” he said.

“Look, if the team losses, then every aspect of its performance is highlighted. I believe that, in addition to fielding, we have not performed well in any area. We didn’t lose solely due to the fielding; it was due to overall lack of performance,” he added.

The right-handed batter emphasized the lack of power-hitting in this PSL, stating that extensive work is needed on this ability within a specific timeframe to achieve better results.

”If you work for a month with someone, this is not enough. Instead, we should create a schedule for at least six months dedicated to developing the power-hitting skills of players. This way, we can see significant improvements at the next level,” he concluded.

“As we know, his form is crucial for Peshawar Zalmi. He has the ability to turn the game around when he’s in good form. He’s a game-changer, and tonight showed that he’s coming back into form,” he added.

Babar Azam mentioned that the break seemed to benefit him. He noted that as a young player, it’s important for Saim Ayub to learn to push through difficult times.

Babar Azam praised bowlers for making early inroads while highlighting the continuous bowling change.

“I think we weren’t expecting the pitch to behave the way it did, but credit should go to our bowlers. When a team takes early wickets, the opposition feels the pressure, and we managed to keep adding more pressure with each bowling change, ” he explained.

He emphasized execution while revealing the team’s plan against Multan Sultans’ batting unit.

“The balls bowled on a good length came on to the bat in a two-paced manner. Our plan was simple: hit the pitch hard and bowl according to the field, and that’s why we could restrict them to such a low total,” Babar said.

Peshawar Zalmi coach laments rushing Saim Ayub back in PSL after injury

Peshawar Zalmi bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed expressed disappointment over the return of Saim Ayub to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 without sufficient match preparation.

In early January, Saim Ayub suffered a right ankle fracture while fielding during the first day of the second Test between Pakistan and South Africa. The injury ruled him out for 10 weeks and prevented him from playing in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The incident occurred in the seventh over of South Africa’s first innings when Ryan Rickelton played a fuller-length delivery from Mohammad Abbas past the slip cordon into the deep third-wicket region.

Following the injury, Saim Ayub was advised a six-month rest period to allow for a full recovery and was sent to the United Kingdom for his rehab following an ankle injury.

The Pakistan opening batter missed the Champions Trophy 2025 and the following New Zealand white-ball tour.

Saim Ayub returned to competitive cricket in PSL 10, scoring a fifty in his first game. However, the left-hander has struggled to find his form since then and is experiencing a lean run in form.

Now, Peshawar Zalmi bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed has confessed that it was a mistake to bring Saim Ayub directly into PSL 10 without sufficient match practice.

While speaking in the post-match studio show, Mushtaq shed light on Saim Ayub’s difficulties with the bat.

“When a player returns from injury, net sessions alone aren’t enough,” said Mushtaq. “To regain form and rhythm, match practice is essential.”

Mushtaq Ahmed stressed the need for a few club matches for Saim Ayub before returning to the high-pressure environment of the PSL.

“Unfortunately, that did not happen, and now we are seeing the consequences of not giving him enough match time before the tournament,” he added.
