PSL 9 to kick off with glittering opening ceremony

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday, confirmed that the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9 will kick off with a star-studded and glittering opening ceremony here at Gaddafi Stadium.

According to the details, the grand opening ceremony will feature renowned artists Ali Zafar and Aima Baig, who collaborated to craft the PSL 9 Anthem, Khul Ke Khel, alongside Arif Lohar and Noori.

Besides this, the spectators can also witness fireworks and an enthralling laser show.

The opening ceremony will commence at 6:30 PM (PST) ahead of the PSL 9 curtain raiser between defending champions Lahore Qalandars and two-time champions Islamabad United.

“Join us for the spectacular Grand Opening of [HBL PSL 9] at Lahore Gaddafi Stadium! Be captivated by electrifying performances from Ali Zafar, Aima Baig, Arif Lohar, and Noori – it’s a night to remember! Get ready for fireworks and a mesmerizing laser show! Gates swing open at 3:30 pm, with a dazzling opening ceremony kicking off at 6:30 pm on February 17, 2024,” stated PSL.

The marquee event will be played in four cities – Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi – with the final of the six-team tournament taking place at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi on 18 March.

Over the course of the 34-match tournament, Karachi will host 11 matches, including the Qualifier, two Eliminators and the final.

Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium and Rawalpindi’s Pindi Cricket Stadium will each host nine matches, while fans in Multan, the city of saints, will witness five matches.

PSL 9 Anthem ‘Khul Ke Khel’ released

The much-anticipated Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9 Anthem, titled Khul Ke Khel, featuring Ali Zafar and Aima Baig has been released.

The highly-anticipated anthem was written, composed and produced by Ali Zafar.

The video features fragments of all six franchises and memorable moments from the previous edition.

“Ready for the ultimate banger of the season? Time for the HBL PSL Anthem Reveal! For a nation that’s all heart, for people who live laugh and love boldly, this HBL PSL we invite you to sing along and let your hair down. Khul ke enjoy, Khul ke cheer and most importantly #KhulKeKhel pyaray!!” the video description read.

The PSL 9 Anthem marked the groundbreaking comeback of seasoned pop star Ali Zafar, who previously sang the anthems of the first three editions of the marquee league — Ab Khel Ke Dikha, Ab Khel Jamay Ga, Dil Se Jaan Laga De.
