PHF appoints Oltmans as team consultant for Junior Asia Cup 2023

LAHORE: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) on Thursday appointed the renowned Dutch coach Roelant Oltmans as the consultant to their national team for the Junior Asia Cup 2023. 

According to PHF, Oltamans has been contracted for the Junior Asia Cup only which is scheduled to take place between May 23 and June 1 in Salalah, Oman.

The 68-year-old has previously coached Pakistan national hockey team twice in the past in 2003 and 2018.

Besides Oltmans, the coaching panel also includes Olympian Hanif Khan (manager), Adnan Zakir International, Olympian Mudassar Ali Khan, Asif Ahmed Khan International, Olympian Zeeshan Ashraf, Rana Zubair (drag flickers coach) and Mazhar Abbas International (goalkeepers coach).

It is pertinent to mention here a total of 10 teams, split into two pools, will be competing in the upcoming Junior Asia Cup.

Pool A comprises Pakistan, India, Japan, Thailand, and Chinese Taipei, while Pool B consists of Korea, Malaysia, Oman, Bangladesh and Uzbekistan.

Pakistan play their opening match against Chinese Taipei on May 23 before facing Thailand on May 24, India on May 27 and Japan on May 29.

The tournament serves as the qualifying round for the Junior Hockey World Cup 2023 as the top three teams from Junior Asia Cup will qualify for the megaevent in Malaysia later this year.

Dutch Hockey coach Oltmans lands in Pakistan for coaching children

LAHORE: Renowned Dutch coach Roelant Oltmans, who has previously coached Pakistan’s National hockey team has landed in the country to train the junior players of the Rana Zaheer Academy for competitive hockey.

Oltmans, who has previously coached Pakistan’s national hockey team, Netherlands, India and Malaysia, has landed in the country to train the junior players as Rana Zaheer Academy attained his services.

The Dutch coach received a warm welcome from the Olympians Shafqat Rasool, Shafqat Ali and Hockey Coach Rana Zaheer at Allama Iqbal International Airport here.

According to the Director of the Academy, the Punjab Sports Board played a vital role in hiring the services of the Dutch coach as the board will also prepare a pool of 50 children who will be trained under Oltman’s coaching for two weeks.

Dutch Hockey coach Oltmans to arrive in Pakistan for coaching children

KARACHI: In a first, a hockey academy has reached an agreement for hiring the services of successful Dutch Olympic and World Champion coach Roelant Oltmans, who has previously coached Pakistan’s National hockey team as well. 

The Dutch coach will arrive in Pakistan as Rana Zaheer Academy has hired his services in order to train children for competitive hockey.

Oltmans will be arriving in Pakistan on June 14 as the Dutch will be the first foreign coach hired by any hockey academy in Pakistan.

According to the Director of the Academy, the Punjab Sports Board played a vital role in hiring the services of the Dutch coach as the board will also prepare a pool of 50 children who will be trained under Oltman’s coaching.

The Dutch coach has previously coached Pakistan’s national hockey team, and he also remained the coach of the Netherlands, India and Malaysia men’s hockey teams. The Netherlands won the 1998 Men’s Hockey World Cup under his coaching.
