Rumman Raees leaves Islamabad United camp amid family tragedy

Islamabad United fast bowling consultant Rumman Raees has temporarily left the team’s camp in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 due to the tragic passing of his sister.

Rumman Raees shared the heartbreaking news on the social media platform X. The pacer requested prayers for his late sister.

As a result, Rumman Raees will not accompany the team for their upcoming matches. The undefeated team in PSL 10 is set to face Multan Sultans on April 23 in Multan.

It is worth mentioning that Islamabad United maintained their unbeaten run in the tournament, following a comfortable victory against Karachi Kings in the 10th match of the PSL at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.

Rumman Raees cites 2017 Champions Trophy triumph to counter Aqib Javed’s claim

Pakistan’s left-arm fast bowler Rumman Raees has addressed the remarks made by interim head coach Aqib Javed regarding the national team’s lack of experience after their early elimination from the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.

Raees, a key member of the 2017 winning team, criticized Javed’s remarks that the current squad lacks experience, particularly after the team’s disappointing performance in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.

Ahead of the Men in Green’s last group match against the Bangladesh, Aqib Javed commented on the team’s lack of experience following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the marquee event.

Aqib Javed attributed the omission of young players Sufiyan Muqeem and Muhammad Irfan Khan due to inexperience in international cricket.

Raees pointed out that the squad that won the Champions Trophy for Pakistan also featured a degree of inexperience, highlighting that he and Fakhar Zaman made their international debuts in that same tournament.

“It’s not valid to use inexperience as an excuse,” Raees remarked.

“I made my ODI debut in the semi-final, and Fakhar Zaman was part of that same team. When you compare the 2017 Champions Trophy team to today’s squad, you’ll see that the current players have had fewer matches under their belts.” he said.

He highlighted that only a few players were experienced in the 2017 winning squad.

“The only players with significant experience back then were Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Amir, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Junaid Khan,” he said.

Rumman Raees stressed the importance of building a team around core players and pointed out that expecting every squad member to have extensive experience is unrealistic.

“A successful team is always centered around key players; you can’t expect all 11 players to have played 100 ODIs,” Raees concluded.

‘Best spell I witnessed in my life’ Rumman lauds Amir’s CT 2017 final blitz

KARACHI: Pakistan fast bowler Rumman Raees has spoken highly of fellow pacer Mohammad Amir for his outstanding spell during the Champions Trophy 2017 Final against India, calling it the ‘best spell’ witnessed by him in life.

Left-arm quick Amir wreaked havoc on India’s top order in that memorable encounter with arch-rivals, dismissing the star-studded trio of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli, to help Pakistan achieve one of the most glorious feats in history.

Rumman, who was part of Pakistan’s 2017 Champions Trophy squad, recalled that magical opening bowling from Amir and expressed his admiration for then teammate by rating it above all the other spells he had seen in his life.

“Mohammad Amir’s spell is the best spell I’ve witnessed in my life,” he said in an interview with Youtuber Nadir Ali.

“Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan were all in their top forms but the way he bowled against them was simply exceptional. In fact, I forgot my grief for not being part of the team”

“I was sitting in the dugout along with Faheem Ashraf and Ahmed Shahzad and all three of us found it mesmerizing to see his swing and all (the action) from that angle,”

Furthermore, he disclosed that the atmosphere at The Oval had changed drastically as the Indian team supporters started to leave the ground after Amir’s spell.

“It was all blue,” he recalled the atmosphere inside the stadium filled with Indian fans. “But once Amir got wickets of Rohit, Kohli and Dhawan, their supporters started to scatter”

“Later on, the atmosphere turned from blue to green and then the way our fans chanted slogans was simply exceptional.”

It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan outclassed India by 180 runs in the 2017 Champions Trophy final to win the title for the very first time.

Amir’s sensational figures of 3 for 16 in six overs helped Green Shirts to bowl out India for 158 while chasing a mammoth 339-run target. Fakhar Zaman, on the other hand, bagged the Player of the Match award for his magnificent century.
