Sunny Edwards beats Muhammad Waseem, defends IBF Flyweight Title

DUBAI: The reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) World Flyweight Champion Sunny Edwards has outclassed Pakistan’s Muhammad Waseem in his second title defence match, here on Saturday.

The British boxer, Sunny kept on his unbeaten run as the 26-years-old outclassed Waseem throughout the match.

In a twelve-round clash between the two boxers, Sunny was unanimously adjudged as the winner as he beat Waseem by the scores of 115-111, 115-111 and 116-110.

Following his defeat against Sunny, Pakistani star boxer Waseem, in a video statement, complained about the unfair refereeing of the match. The 34-years-old, however, congratulated Edwards for his successful title defence and vowed to make a strong comeback in his next fight.

“It was a tough fight for the world title and I tried my best to win but unfortunately the referee was not fair,” he claimed.

“I, however, would like to congratulate Edwards for this victory and I will make a strong comeback in my next fight,” he concluded.

‘Will decide about my career with family’ Amir after his defeat against Brook

MANCHESTER: British boxer Amir Khan revealed that he will now decide the future of his boxing career with his family after suffering a defeat against Kell Brook in a long-awaited bout.

Amir, who recently rubbished the rumours of his retirement plans, has announced that he will now make a decision about his career’s future with his family.

“I will now sit with my family and will make a decision about the future of my boxing career,” the star boxer said.

“I am a family-oriented person, I want to give time to my family. Also want to take my children to school,” he added.

Talking about his duel with Brook Amir acknowledged Brook’s preparations for the fight and blamed himself for the defeat.

“I think Brook prepared really well for this fight and the one who fought well won,” he said.

“I just can not justify this defeat. I think it’s me who should be blamed for this defeat. I could not perform well enough,” he added.

Amir went on to add that the star boxer remained unable to find his rhythm throughout the clash and Brook totally outclassed him.

Brook, on the other hand, termed the victory against Amir as a ‘long due’. The 35-years-also thinks that he will now be remembered for a long for this victory.

“I think it was a long due fight and I am glad I won it. I think people will now remember me for this victory,” he said.

Brook also showed respect towards Amir but said he seemed to be an easy opponent for him.

“Aamir seemed like an easy opponent to me, I had already defeated him in the first round,” Brook concluded.

British-Pakistani boxer Ali wins seventh consecutive boxing bout

MANCHESTER: British-Pakistani boxer Mohammad Ali, who is a diabetic patient, won his seventh consecutive boxing bout here on Saturday. 

According to the details, Ali beat his opponent in all six rounds of his seventh boxing bout. Within no time, Ali countered his opponent to win his fight.

Hailed from Layyah, Punjab, Ali expressed his emotions after winning his seventh consecutive fight.

“It’s an honor to win seven fights in a row. It took a lot of determination and hard work to contest in a fight despite suffering from diabetes,” the young boxer shared. “This win is dedicated to my family, friends, and all people out there who supported me,” he concluded.

‘Don’t have any plans of retirement’ Amir Khan

MANCHESTER: British boxer Amir Khan doesn’t have any plans to take retirement from the boxing ring after his much-awaited fight with Kell Brook on February 19. 

In an exclusive interview with ARY News, Khan said his fight against Brook will be historic and he is confident to beat the opponent.

“This fight was long-awaited and finally we will face each other in the ring. Now, it will be decided in the ring, who is strong,” he said.

“I am fully prepared for this fight and it will be a good contest overall. Even If I lose this fight, I don’t have any plans to take retirement,” he added.

It must be noted here that all tickets for this fight in Manchester Arena are sold out. Amir will be taking the ring after a gap of almost two years.

Muhammad Waseem to fight for IBF World Title on March 19

KARACHI: Pakistan’s star boxer, Muhammad Waseem, who recently became WBC Silver World Champion will compete against United Kingdom’s Sunny Edwards for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) World Flyweight Championship on March 19.

With his fight against the Edwards on March 19, Waseem will also become the first Pakistani boxer to compete for the World Title twice.

A global boxing and media company also took to Twitter to announce a ‘huge main event’.

Furthermore, the national boxer had asked his countrymen to pray for his world-title fight.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Muzaffar Khan and Afghanistan’s Ahmad Samir will lock horns in the Arabian Sea Championship title fight on January 22 here at Liaquat Gymnasium. 

According to the details, the two fighters will tie up for an interesting contest on January 22. Both the fighters are confident to contest strongly for their respective countries.

KARACHI: In an interview, Pakistan’s star boxer and WBC Silver World Champion revealed that he was compelled to bribe Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) officials for sponsorship contracts.

Waseem made shocking revelations regarding the situation of professional boxing in Pakistan while narrating his journey from the streets of Quetta to the world arena during an interview.

“In order to gain the sponsorship, President PBF pushed me to sign a contract stipulating that I would have to pay 20% of whatever amount I received, be it match fees or monthly allowance,” Waseem said.

“I had no choice but to pay the bribe as I was afraid they would ruin my career, as they had thousands of other promising fighters before me,” he added.

 

Following this, the star boxer requested the PM Imran Khan to look into this matter and save the careers of upcoming boxers.

In the interview, Waseem also discussed his path from battling hardships in his early boxing career to capturing the WBC Silver championship.

Wasim is currently the top-ranked WBA boxer in the fly-weight category. He is also the only Pakistani who crowned two-time world boxing champion.

Usman Wazeer announces to set up boxing academy in an orphanage

ISLAMABAD: Usman Wazeer, World Boxing Council (WBC) Middle East champion, announced to establish a boxing academy in a local orphanage within a month, here on Thursday.

Usman announced the establishment of a boxing academy during his visit to the orphanage while addressing at the ceremony.

“The boxing academy will train children under the supervision of domestic and foreign coaches,” Usman said.

“In the next six months, the athletes will be ready to represent Pakistan in a boxing event,” he added.

Usman while acknowledging the founder of the orphanage also announced to donate a part of his earning from his fights to the orphanage. Usman is also optimistic that the orphanage and the boxing academy will produce talented players in the future.

While addressing the ceremony, Usman also disclosed that he accidentally became a boxer as the Asian Boxing Champion used to be a footballer in his early days.

ISLAMABAD: World Boxing Council (WBC) Middle East champion Usman Wazeer has become the ambassador of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Kamyab Jawan Sports Drive Program. 

Special Adviser to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs, Usman Dar met the young boxer on Wednesday to acknowledge his achievements and appoint him as the ambassador.

“Usman is our asset and his achievements in the boxing world are commendable,” Dar praised the boxer. “Kamyab Jawan Sports Drive is there to support such athletes and let them represent Pakistan on the higher level,” he said.

The special assistant was impressed with Usman’s Middle East title and assured to support him in participating in Youth World Title.

“Usman achieved Middle East title for Pakistan and we are proud of him. Hence, we make him the ambassador of our sports drive in boxing category. Also, we assure him full support to participate in Youth World Title fight,” he concluded.

International title winning Pakistani boxers return home

ISLAMABAD: Asian Boxing Federation champion – Asif Hazara and World Boxing Council Middle East Champion, Usman Wazeer landed on the home soil, after clinching their respective titles.

Both champions, who won their titles on December 15, in Dubai, received a warm welcome from the crowd.

Usman, while talking to media, said their success is Pakistan’s success. The two boxers also thanked the nation for their prayers. While, he also shared that both the boxers bore the expenses by themselves.

“We bore all the expenses for competing for Asian Boxing and World Boxing Council titles, by ourselves. The governments of both Gilgit and Federal, never lamented support” Usman said.

“We will give produce better outcomes, if the governments support us,” he added.

Usman also said that Pakistan has immense talent in boxing, and government should support it.
