KARACHI: Pakistan’s star boxer, Muhammad Waseem, who recently became WBC Silver World Champion has topped the WBA boxing ranking in the Flyweight category on Thursday.
Waseem, who beat Colombia’s Rober Berrera in Dubai for two titles, became the first-ever Pakistani boxer to top the WBA boxing ranking in any category.
Waseem is also the only Pakistani who crowned two-time world boxing champion.
Despite winning world championships, Waseem has often lamented the lack of government support.
“I have zero support from the government. I have achieved a lot for my country but I received no major recognition at the government level,” the national boxer told ARY Sports after winning his latest fight.

KARACHI: Pakistani professional boxer Mohammad Waseem lamented no support from the government despite being the world boxing champion twice.
Waseem, who recently became WBC Silver World Champion, said the government has been failed to recognize his achievements at a higher level.
“I have zero support from the government. I have achieved a lot for my country but I received no major recognization at the government level,” the national boxer said.
“Our country has immense talent but there are very few opportunities for them. Our boxing has the potential to achieve so much at the international level. If the government pays attention, our talent can do wonders,” he maintained.
While talking about his fight against Colombia’s Rober Barrera for two titles (WBC Silver Title and WBA World Eliminator), Waseem said it was his career-turning fight.
“I prepared for four months to fight with Barrera. He was a tough opponent and it took a lot of effort to beat him,” he shared.
“Alhumdulillah, I am happy to reclaim my WBC World Title. I will take some rest now before start preparing for my next fight. My promotion will plan for my next fight and we eye a fight before Ramadan next year,” he concluded.
LAHORE: National Boxing Championship will commence from November 30 here, this correspondent reported.
In a press conference on Monday, the President of Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) – Mohammad Khalid Mahmood announced the dates of the National Boxing Championship.
“The National Boxing Championship will take place from November 30-December 5. 12 teams will participate in Men’s event whereas seven in women’s,” he said.
“There will be 153 competitions in different weight categories in the championship till,” Mahmood added.
Meanwhile, Secretary-General of PBF – Nasir Ijaz assured that all International Boxing Association (IBA) rules will be followed. “The championship has 145 male boxers and 27 female boxers competing. All IBA rules and regulations would be followed during the competition,” he said.

MOSCOW: Pakistan’s Nisar Ahmed bagged Bronze in International Kickboxing Championship here on Tuesday.
Nisar, who is a ‘Paratha-Maker’ in Karachi, beat Tajikistan’s kickboxer in the third position match. Nisar didn’t have money to participate in the event despite being qualified but due to a viral interview of him, people supported him financially to go to Russia.
Meanwhile, two other Pakistani kickboxers Navroz Ali and Syed Ubaid Mohammad won the Silver and Gold medal in the event. Ubaid won Gold in the 64Kg category whereas Navroz bagged Silver in the 56Kg category.
