Scorchers edge past Renegades to stay unbeaten in BBL

MELBOURNE: Perth Scorchers’ Colin Munro and Mitchell Marsh batted superbly and partnered brilliantly to help their side chase down 152 against Melbourne Renegades in the 21st match of Big Bash League (BBL).

Set to chase 152, Munro and Marsh posted an important match winning partnership of 99-runs to seal the victory for their side. Munro smashed a brilliant half-century. He scored an unbeaten 58 off 32 balls, including six boundaries and two maximums. Marsh, on the other hand, also impressed; scoring 42 off 33 balls, laced with two boundaries and a six.

Earlier, the Scorchers’ openers – Cameron Bancroft and Josh Inglis provided a solid start to the inning. The pair added 49-runs for the first wicket before Inglis departed after scoring 23. Bancroft, too, soon departed after scoring 23.

For the Renegades, Zahir Khan and Nic Maddinson each took one wicket.

Batting first, the Renegades were halted by a poor start; losing their first wicket for just 12. Aaron Finch was the batter, who departed after scoring just eight. Mackenzie Harvey and Sam Harper, however, tried to anchor the innings. The pair added a valiant 56-runs partnership before Harper dismissed after scoring 32 off 25 balls, including four boundaries.

Harvey, on the other hand, scored 45 off 40, and was a touch too slow. He departed after getting run-out. The rest of their batters failed to get going and the side managed to score 151/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

For the Scorchers, Ashton Agar, Tymal Mills, Jason Behrendorff each took two wickets, while Marsh struck out a batter.

Following this victory, the Scorchers have consolidated their top-position on the points table, while the Renegades are at the bottom.

Sixers beat Thunder in a rain-affected match of BBL

SYDNEY: Sydney Sixers defeated Sydney Thunder by 30 runs in a rain-affected 20th match of the ongoing edition of Big Bash League (BBL), on Sunday.

Set to chase 172 runs in 16 overs by D\L method. The Thunder, bundled out for 142 in the second last over. The side were off to a poor start; losing their first wicket for just six runs, Matthew Gikes dismissed after scoring a run-a-ball six.

Alex Hales and Jason Sangha, then posted an important partnership; adding 33 runs to the team’s total. The pair appeared to be solid before Hales departed after scoring 14 off just six balls, he smashed two sixes. Jason Sangha, on the other hand, was the lone warrior for the Thunder. He scored a fighting 47 off 30 balls, laced with six boundaries and a six.

Following Sangha’s dismissal at a combined score of 93, the Thunder then collapsed from 93/3 to 142 all-out.

For the Sixers, Hayden Kerr starred; taking three wickets, while Lloyd Pope, Saun Abbott, and Ben Dwarshuis each claimed two wickets. Mickey Edwards, on the other hand, managed to struck out a batter.

Batting first, the Sixers had an average start to their innings; losing their first wicket for 24 runs. Josh Philippe was the batter, who dismissed after scoring 13. However, James Vince and Daniel Hughes then recorded an important partnership of 38-runs. Vince departed after scoring 31 off 29 balls, including five boundaries.

Hughes, on the other hand, kept going and went on to score a brilliant half-century. He scored 50 off 26 balls, laced with a boundary and five sixes. Later in the innings, Dan Christian’s astonishing cameo of 41 off just 17 balls, helped the Sixers post a commendable total of 168/4 in the allotted 16 overs. Christian smoked four boundaries and two sixes.

For the Thunder, Daniel Sams bagged two wickets, while Saqib Mahmood and Chris Green each struck out a batter.

Following this victory, the Sixers have now claimed the second position on the points table. Whereas, the Thunder are standing at the third.

Shadab Khan joins Sydney Sixers for BBL 11 remainder

SYDNEY: Pakistan’s star spinner, Shadab Khan signed with the Big Bash League’s franchise, Sydney Sixers for the remainder of the current season of the league.

Taking to Twitter, the Sixers announced the addition of the leggie to their squad.

“We’ve signed Pakistani star spinner Shadab Khan for the remainder of BBL 11,” the franchise wrote.

Shadab will represent the two times BBL winners, covering their spin injuries of Ben Manenti and Steve O’Keefe.

Taking to Twitter, the leg spinner showcased his excitement for his return to the league and is hopeful to contribute to the team’s success.

“I have always enjoyed playing in Australia and the BBL, these are different and tough conditions so you get to learn a lot. Really excited to be part of the Sixers. Hopefully, I can contribute to my team’s success,” he wrote.

 

Shadab has played 175 T20s and has taken 197 wickets. In the batting department, the right-arm batter scored 1407runs at an average of 18.03. He is also the eighth-highest wicket-taker in Pakistan Super League’s history with 46 wickets in 52 matches.

HOBART: Hobart Hurricane’s opener – Ben McDermott scored a brilliant half-century then their bowlers wreak havoc over Melbourne Stars; defeating the side by 24 runs, in the 19th match of Big Bash League (BBL) at Bellerive Oval.

At the toss, the Hurricanes’ skipper, Matthew Wade after winning the toss, elected to bat first. The home side started their innings brilliantly; with the openers recording a wonderful partnership of 93 runs. Wade was the batter, who dismissed after scoring a brilliant 39 off 27 balls; smashing two boundaries and as many sixes.

McDermott, on the other hand, was even handier, the batter went on to smash a terrific half-century. He scored 67 off 43 balls, laced with four boundaries and as many sixes. McDermott remained the top-scorer for his side. With valuable contributions from the rest of the batters, the Hurricanes finished at 180/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

For Stars, Andre Russell claimed three wickets, but, was expensive. Nathan Coulter-Nile picked two wickets during his economical spell, while Brody Couch took one wicket.

Chasing 181, the Stars, could not find the rhythm and struggled throughout the innings. Joe Clarke, however, impressed with his magnificent 52 off 40 deliveries, including two boundaries and three sixes. But, soon after Clarke’s dismissal, the Stars’ batters could not go deep, and the side, in the end, restricted to 156/9 in the allotted overs.

For the Hurricanes, Riley Meredith and Tom Rogers each claimed three wickets. Nathan Ellis bagged two wickets for just 27 runs, while D’Arcy Short took one wicket.

With this victory, the Hurricanes have now moved to the third position, while the Stars are struggling at the seventh position.

ADELAIDE: Brisbane Heat’s batters, Ben Duckett and Sam Heazlett batted brilliantly and partnered strongly to help their side defeat Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League (BBL) fixture, on Thursday.

Ducket and Heazlett’s strong partnership helped the Heat to post a massive total of 208 in their allotted 20 overs, Strikers in response could only score 168; losing the match by 40 runs.

Batting first, the Heat openers, could not provide a solid start to the team; losing the first wicket for just 10 runs. Chris Lynn was the batter who departed after scoring 10 off just five deliveries, smacking two boundaries. Soon after, the side lost their second wicket for just 34 runs, as Tom Cooper departed after scoring 16.

Max Bryant, too, dismissed after recording a brief partnership with Duckett, Bryant scored 32 off 20 balls; smashing five boundaries and a six. Heazlett then joined the party and posted a magnificent partnership of 114, along with Duckett. Heazlett played a brilliant inning, but, fell unlucky; missing his well-deserved half-century by just one run. He dismissed on 49, facing 30 balls, laced with three boundaries and as many sixes.

On the very next ball, Rashid Khan sent Duckett back to the pavilion, the batter top-scored with 78 off 47 balls; smashing 10 boundaries and two sixes. With little contributions from down the order, the Heat finished at 208/7 in 20 overs.

For the Strikers, Rashid bagged three wickets, while Wes Agar and Peter Siddle each claimed two wickets.

Chasing a mammoth, the Strikers struggled to get off to a good start; losing two wickets for just 17 runs. Jack Weatherald (1) dismissed, followed by Matthew Shot (14).

Matt Renshaw and Jonathan Wells then recorder an astonishing partnership; adding 61 runs into the team’s total. The pair appeared solid but, Renshaw dismissed after scoring just 22. Wells, on the other hand, kept going and went on to score his half-century. He top-scored with 55 off 41 balls, including six boundaries and a six.

Following Wells’ dismissal, none of their batters could able to go big at the depth. The Strikers, in the end, restricted to 168/8 in the allotted overs.

For Heat, Matthew Kuhnemann and Mark Steketee, each claimed three wickets. James Bazley, on the other hand, bagged two wickets.

In a match against Renegades at Docklands stadium, today. The Scorchers’ Mitchell Marsh shined with a brilliant knock of 86 runs; assisting the side to post a commendable 206/5 on the board.

After winning the toss, the Scorchers’ skipper, Ashton Turner opted to bat first, their opening pair, however, could not live up to their skipper’s expectation, as the pair broke after scoring just six runs. Josh Inglis was the batter, who departed after scoring a mere two.

The Scorchers’ hero, Marsh, then took the charge and built a solid 62-runs partnership with Cameron Bancroft. The pair looked solid, but, Bancroft departed after scoring 24 off 21 balls. Marsh, on the other hand, impressed with his 86 for just 53 balls; smashing five boundaries and as many sixes.

The lower-order also chipped in significantly and Scorchers finished with 206/5 in 20 overs. Laurie Evans remained the second top-scorer for his side with a quickfire cameo of 42, facing just 16 balls. The batter smashed four boundaries and two sixes.

For Renegades, Kane Richardson bagged three wickets, while Will Sutherland and James Pattinson each took one wicket apiece.

Chasing a mammoth 207, Renegades too, started poorly; losing their first wicket for none. Aaron Finch and Nic Maddinson then stood up, with both the batters hitting half-centuries and putting on a massive 130-runs partnership.

The pair looked to pull the match in their favor, but, the Scorchers managed to remove both the batters in quick succession. Their dismissals halted the Renegades run chase; with no batter could go big in the end, the side, eventually, restricted to 185/5 in allotted overs.

Maddinson scored 67 off 43 deliveries; smashing eight boundaries and three sixes, followed by the top-scorer, Finch, who scored 68 off 41 balls, laced with four boundaries and five sixes.

For Scorchers, Ashton Agar claimed two wickets for 23 runs. Whereas, Marsh, Jason Behrendorff, and Peter Hatzoglou each took one wicket.

Following the victory, the Scorchers consolidated their top position on the points table, while Renegades remained at the bottom.

SYDNEY: Sydney Sixers chased down 148 in the last over to seal a thrilling victory over Adelaide Strikers in their Big Bash League’s fixture, today.

The sixers required just six runs in the last over, with four wickets in hand, Hayden Kerr, hit a six on the second ball of the penultimate over to seal a thrilling victory for his side.

Chasing 148, the Sixers, started decently, with their opening pair putting a 44-runs partnership, both the openers appeared to be solid, but, could not go deep. James Vince departed first after scoring 21 off 24 balls scoring three boundaries.

Soon after, Josh Philippe, also, walked back to the pavilion; scoring 23 off just 20 balls, laced with one boundary and as many sixes. Daniel Hughes, too, departed after scoring just seven. The sixers were three down after scoring 63 in the eighth over.

Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk, however, anchored the innings together, with a brilliant partnership; setting the tone for the run-chase. The pair added 52 runs into their team’s total before Henriques departed; scoring 28 off 26 deliveries, he hit two boundaries and a maximum. On the very next delivery, Rashid Khan sent Dan Christian back to the pavilion after trapping the batter in legs for a golden duck.

Silk, on the other hand, stood for long, pulling his side out of trouble, the batter departed in the 19th over, after scoring a quickfire 36 off 24 balls, he smashed five boundaries.

Sean Abbott also scored a valuable 19 off 10 balls and remained not-out.

For the Striker, Rashid was impressive; returning with the figures of 3/20, George Garton, on the other hand, picked two wickets. Whereas, Fawad Ahmed struck out a batter.

Batting first, the Strikers’ batters struggled throughout the innings, none of them could able to go deep, to assist their side post a defendable total.

Jonathan Wells scored 32 off 19 balls; hitting two boundaries and as many sixes, followed by the top-scorer for the side – Thomas Kelly, who scored 41 off 34, laced with four boundaries. The Strikers, in the end, restricted to 147/8 in 20 overs.

HOBART: Perth Scorchers sealed a convincing victory against Hobart Hurricanes by 42 runs, thanks to their opener, Kurtis Patterson, who smashed 78 runs to help his team register a fourth win in Big Bash League (BBL).

The Scorchers restricted Hurricanes to 125/9 in 20 overs; chasing a mammoth 168. The side remained unbeaten with a convincing 42 runs victory.

Chasing 168, the Hurricanes batters struggled throughout the innings, and none of their batters could go big to assist the side to the victory. Nathan Ellis scored 20 off 15 balls; smashing two boundaries.

Will Parker, on the other hand, top-scored for his side; scoring 25 off 17 deliveries, and hitting one boundary and as many sixes.

For Scorchers, Andrew Tye starred, returning with a match-winning bowling figure of 3/19, Peter Hatzoglou and Ashton Agar, on the other hand, each took wickets. Whereas, Tymal Mills struck out a batter.

Batting first, the Scorchers, too, started off poorly; losing their first wicket for just one, as Josh Inglish departed after bagging a four-ball duck. Patterson, however, played a terrific inning and kept the scoreboard ticking single-handedly. The batter top-scored with 78 off 48 deliveries, laced with six boundaries and five sixes.

Agar, chipping in the end, with a quickfire 30 off 17 deliveries, assisted the side to post 167 in their allotted 20 overs.

For Hurricanes, Jordan Thompson claimed three wickets, while Tom Rogers took two wickets. Riley Meredith, on the other hand, bagged one wicket.

BRISBANE: Sydney Thunder’s Sam Billings hit an astonishing half-century before Saqib Mahmood rattled Brisbane Heat’s top-order to push their side seal a convincing victory in their Big Bash League (BBL) fixture. 

Mahmood wreak havoc over Heat’s top-order; with a fierce opening spell of 4-9 (2 overs). Chasing 197, Heat were halted by a poor start; losing their first five wickets for just 15 runs.

Tom Cooper, on the other hand, appeared solid; scoring 32 off just 18 balls, including three boundaries and two sixes. The batter fell victim to Chris Green’s brilliant delivery.

Having lost seven wickets for just 60, Xavier Bartlett and Mark Steketee, showed fightback, the low-order batters, recorded a tremendous 79-runs partnership before Steketee dismissed; scoring 33 off 24 balls laced with two boundaries and a six. The Heat lost their remaining wickets in a quick succession, and bowled out for a skimpy 143.

Bartlett remained not-out with 42 off 29 balls, the batter smashed three boundaries and a six.

For Thunder, Mahmood bagged four wickets, while Tanveer Sangha took three. Daniel Sams and Green, on the other hand, each took a wicket.

Batting first, the Thunder were off to a decent start; with their top-four batters chipped in significantly to assist their side to a commendable total of 196/7 in 20 overs.

Jason Sangha scored 39 off off 28 balls, including three boundaries and a maximum, while Billing, top-scored, with his 64 off just 27 balls, laced with boundaries and as many sixes.

For the Heat, Bartlett, Steketee, and Mitchell Swepson, each took two wickets, while James Bazley struck out a batter.

With this victory, the Thunder have now moved up to the third position, while the Heat remained at seventh.

Chasing 178, Sixers, started decently, their openers provided a handy 30-runs partnership before James Vince dismissed on just nine, he faced 16 balls and only scored one boundary.

His opening pair, Philippe, however, played contrasting inning; scoring 99 not-out, and getting his side over the line. The batter faced only 61 balls; hitting eleven boundaries and two sixes.

Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk, too, chipped and played valuable innings. Henriques scored 29 off 20 balls; smashing one boundary and two sixes. Whereas, Silk, scored 25 not-out, assisting Phillippe in the run chase. The batter faced 19 balls and hit a boundary.

For Stars, Adam Zampa, Brodu Couch, and Nathan Coulter-Nile, each struck out a batter.

Batting first, the Stars, halted by a poor start; losing first two wickets for just six runs. Joe Clarke bagged a duck, while Marcus Stoinis could only score three.

Nick Larkin and Glenn Maxwell, then, recorded a sensible partnership; adding 53 runs into the team’s total before Larkin dismissed for 23, he faced 25 balls and hit two boundaries.

Maxwell, however, was on song as the batter smashed the ball all over the ground; hitting 12 boundaries and three sixes for his terrific 103, he faced just 57 balls.

Small contributions from Hilton Cartwright and Andre Russell, assisted the Stars, posting a commendable total of 177/5 in 20 overs, which, in the end, proved less.

For Sixers, Steve O’Keefe, Ben Dwarshuis, Chris Jordan, Dan Christian and Hayden Kerr, each took a wicket.

With the victory over Stars, the Sixers have now claimed the top spot on the points table, while the Stars are at third.
