Pakistan players suffer decline in ICC ODI rankings

DUBAI: The disappointing run of the Pakistan cricket team in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the preceding tri-nation ODI series has been reflected in the latest ICC ODI rankings, with several players slipping down the charts.

Top-order batter Fakhar Zaman made his ODI comeback during the tri-series but only featured in one Champions Trophy game—against New Zealand in Karachi.

He suffered an injury during the match against New Zealand and was subsequently ruled out of the eight-team tournament. His underwhelming performances have cost him, as he falls from 17th to 19th in the rankings with 621 points.

ODI skipper Mohammad Rizwan also saw a dip, sliding one spot to 21st with 616 points, following a string of setbacks in the format.

DUBAI: Pakistan pace bowler Shaheen Afridi witnessed a substantial rise in the latest ICC ODI Bowling and All-Rounder Rankings released on Wednesday.

Shaheen’s rise in the rankings came in the wake of his performance in the first ODI against Australia, played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Monday.

Shaheen contributed with a cameo of 24 runs from 19 balls, which featured three boundaries and one six. He later claimed two key wickets of Matthew Short and Josh Inglis.

Keshav Maharaj claims top spot in ICC ODI Bowling rankings

DUBAI: South Africa’s left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj overtook Indian pace bowler Mohammed Siraj to claim the top spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s ODI Bowling Rankings.

Maharaj is the fourth bowler to claim the coveted top spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Bowling Rankings during the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, exhibiting the fierce competition between the bowlers which has made it difficult to hold on to the position.

Keshav Maharaj was placed at second position in last week’s ICC Men’s ODI Bowling Rankings, he then picked up seven wickets in three games, extending his wickets tally to 14 during ICC World Cup 2023.

He is averaging 24.71 in the tournament with a good economy rate of 4.37.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj is only three rating points behind Keshav Maharaj, having picked six wickets in the last three games for India.

Shaheen rises to third spot in the latest ICC ODI Bowling Rankings

DUBAI: Pakistan’s left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi continued his march upwards in the ICC ODI Bowling Rankings as he claimed his career-best third spot in the latest rankings, released on Monday.

The absence of England’s right-arm seamer Chris Woakes from the recent ODI series against the Netherlands has resulted in him dropping down two spots in the bowling rankings.

Following his demotion, New Zealand’s Matt Henry and Shaheen both jumped a place up to claim the second and third spot respectively.

New Zealand left-arm pacer Trent Boult, on the other hand, continued his dominance in the ODIs as he still leads the bowling charts with 726 rating points, while Henry and Shaheen have 683 and 681 points respectively.
