Haseebullah, Awais make it to the most valuable team of ICC U19 WC

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the most valuable team of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, Pakistan’s Haseebullah Khan and Awais Ali also made into the playing XI.

After the conclusion of the ICC U19 World Cup 2022, the ICC has revealed the playing XI comprised of the top performers from the different teams that participated in the global event.

Taking to Twitter, ICC shared the playing XI of the top U19 World Cup performers.

 

Pakistan’s left-handed wicketkeeper batter – Haseebullah, who scored 380 runs at a whopping average of 78; including two centuries against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka respectively, named as the opener of the most valuable team of the tournament.

The 16-years-old right arm pacer – Awais also made it into the team of valuable performers following his brilliance with the ball; taking 15 wickets in the mega event, including a five-fer.

India beat England by four wickets, win their fifth ICC U19 WC title

NORTH SOUND: India have defeated England by four wickets in the final to win their overall fifth ICC Under-19 World Cup title, here on Monday.

Set to chase a paltry 190, Indian batters – Shaik Rasheed and Nishant Sindhu scored magnificent half-centuries to guide the side to the glory in the 48th over.

The men in blue comfortably chased 190, in the end, despite a poor start and a brief collapse at the death.

For the champions, Rasheed and Sindhu top-scored with 50 each, Rasheed faced 84 deliveries, while Sindhu faced only 54 also smashed five boundaries and a six.

Raj Bawa, on the other hand, also chipped in with his valuable 35 off 54 balls, laced with two boundaries and a six.

For England, Joshua Boyden, James Sales, and Thomas Aspinwall bagged two wickets each.

Batting first, England batting line-up failed completely and could only manage to post 189 before being bowled out.

After a horrible start for England, James Rew and Sales stood up for the team and anchored the innings with a valiant 93-runs partnership. The duo played sensibly when their side was stranded on 91/7.

Rew played a gritty 95 runs knock; falling short to his U19 World Cup century by just five runs. The left-handed batter faced 116 deliveries and smashed 12 boundaries. Sales, on the other hand, stood firm and scored an unbeaten 34 off 65 balls, laced with two boundaries.

The rest of the English batters, however, could not manage to contribute significantly for the team.

For India, Bawa and Ravi Kumar starred with the ball; taking five and four wickets respectively, while Kaushal Tambe made one scalp.

Australia beat Afghanistan to secure third spot in ICC U19 WC

COOLIDGE: Australia beat Afghanistan in a close contest by two wickets to secure third position in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup. 

Afghanistan’s bowlers made comeback in the match to put Australia in deep trouble while chasing 202 runs in third place playoff.

Starting off the chase with decent 53-runs opening partnership, Australia looked in good touch. Campbell Kellaway (51) and Nivethan Radhakrishnan (66) also supported Australia’s on chasing pathway after they lost a wicket for 53. The two batters scored 60 runs together to put Australia in driving seat.

But, strong comeback from Afghanistan’s bowlers brought excitement into the game. Nangeyalia Kharote bagged three wickets while Shahidullah Hasani and Noor Ahmad took two wickets each to help Afghanistan clean up Australia’s middle-order.

At last, Australia cruised the target at snail’s pace to finish off things on a winning note.

Earlier, Ijaz Ahmad Ahmadzai rescued Afghanistan with his 81-runs knock. His innings included five boundaries and as many sixes. Afghanistan were bowled out for 201 runs.

William Salzmann and Nivethan Radhakrishnan bagged three wickets each for Australia.

Qasim registers record as Pakistan secure fifth position in U19 World Cup

NORTH SOUND: Qasim Akram scored 135 not-out and picked up five wickets to help Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by huge margin of 238 runs to secure fifth position in ICC U19 Cricket World Cup. 

With the bat, Qasim smashed 135 runs off 80 balls including six maximums and 13 boundaries followed by his five-wicket haul which set a record in U19 World Cup’s history. Qasim became the only cricketer to score a hundred and take five wickets in an U19 World Cup’s match.

Sent into bat first, Pakistani openers Mohammad Shehzad and Haseebullah Khan scored 134 runs to provide a strong start to their team who scored 365-3 in 50 overs. Shehzad got out after scoring 73 including seven boundaries and two sixes.

Shehzad’s wicket brought in skipper Qasim at the crease. Qasim played captain’s knock and alongside Hasebullah scored 229 runs. Hasebullah smashed 136 runs laced with seven boundaries and two sixes.

Matheesha Pathirana bagged two wickets while Raveen de Silva took one for Sri Lanka.

In reply, Sri Lankan batting line was completely failed against Qasim’s spin attack. Vinuja Ranpul (53*) and Dunith Wellalage (40) resisted for their team and showed fight.

Apart from Qasim, Awais Ali, Zeeshan Zameer, Abbas Ali and Mehran Mumtaz bagged a wicket each.

India thump Australia to qualify for the ICC U19 World Cup final

COOLIDGE: Yash Dhull scored a magnificent century as India defeated Australia by 96 runs in the semi-final of the ICC U19 World Cup and booked their place in the final of the mega event.

With India’s convincing victory over Australia, the side will now face England in the final of the U19 World Cup.

Set to chase 291, Australia could only manage to score 194 in the second innings. Lachlan Shaw scored a gritty half-century; scoring 51 off 66 but his fighting inning went in vain as he too could not steer his side to the victory.

Corey Miller, on the other hand, also showed resistance up the order; scoring 38 while the rest of the batters failed to make a significant impact with the bat.

For India, Vicky Ostwal took three wickets, while Nishant Sindhu and Ravi Kumar picked two wickets each. Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Kaushal Tambe, on the other hand, made one scalp each.

Batting first, India posted a commendable 290-runs total, thanks to Dhull’s astonishing run-a-ball 110; smashing 10 boundaries and a six. Shaik Rasheed too, played vital innings; scoring 94 off 108 deliveries including eight boundaries and a six.

The rest of the Indian batters made small contributions as the side finished at 290/5 in the allotted 50 overs.

For Australia, William Salzmann and Jack Nisbet bagged two wickets each.

Noor fights hard but England defend target to qualify for U19 WC’s final

NORTH SOUND: Allah Noor put up solid fight in front of English bowlers but they managed to defend target against Afghanistan to qualify for ICC U19 Cricket World Cup here on Tuesday. 

Set to chase 232 runs in the semi-final, Afghanistan lost their opener Nangeyalia Kharote earlier but Mohammad Ishaq and Noor partnered strongly to score match-saving 93 runs together.

Ishaq got run-out after scoring 43 runs including two sixes and three boundaries. A run-out brought England back in the game. Noor smoked three sixes and five boundaries to score 60 runs.

Abdul Hadi stayed in the middle till the end but couldn’t take his team over the victory line. He remained not out for 37 runs. Bilal Ahmad contributed 33 runs including six boundaries.

Rehan Ahmed of England stood out with his eye-catching figures of 4-41. Thomas Aspinwall bagged two wickets.

Earlier, George Thomas and George Bell scored half-centuries to drive England to 231-6. Opener Thomas scored 50 off 69 balls laced with four boundaries and two sixes while Bell registered 56 not-out. His inning included six boundaries.

For Afghanistan, Naveed Zadran and Noor Ahmed bagged two wickets each.

In second semi-final today, India will meet Australia in Coolidge. The match will start at 6pm PST.

Pakistan beat Bangladesh in the 5th Place Play-Off Semi-final of ICC U19 World Cup

ANTIGUA: Pakistan have defeated Bangladesh by six wickets in the 5th Place Play-Off Semi-final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup, here on Monday.

Sett to chase a paltry 176, Pakistan sealed a comfortable victory by six wickets and 21 balls to spare, thanks to the wicket-keeper batter – Haseebullah Khan’s magnificent innings. He scored a brilliant 79 off 107 balls, laced with four boundaries and as many sixes, while the rest of the batters also chipped in with their valuable contribution.

For Bangladesh, Rakibul Hasan bagged two wickets, while Naimur Rohman made one scalp.

Batting first, Bangladesh’s batting line-up failed completely and could only manage to post 175 in the first innings. Ariful Islam scored a gritty century, while the rest of the batters departed after scoring cheaply. Islam scored 100 off 119 balls, including five boundaries and four sixes.

For Pakistan, Awais Ali and Mehran Mumtaz claimed three wickets each, Ahmed Khan and Zeeshan Zameer shared one wicket apiece.

Sri Lanka thump South Africa in fifth Place Play-off Semi-final

NORTH SOUND: Sri Lanka sealed a convincing victory over South Africa; defeating the latter by 65 runs in the 5th place play-off semi final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup, here on Sunday.

Set to chase 233, the South African batting line-up failed completely and was bowled for a paltry 167. Ronan Hermann and Gerhardus Maree fought hard for their side but could not manage to turn things around.

Hermann scored 34 up the order, while the middl-order batter – Maree top scored with his 44, whereas, the rest of the batters made little to no contribution in the run chase.

For Sri Lanka, Raveen de Silva, Shevon Daniel, and Treveen Matthew claimed two wickets each, while Dunith Wellalage and Wanuja Sahan shared one wicket apiece.

Batting first, Sri Lanka managed to post a commendable total of 232 in the allotted 50 overs, thanks to their skipper – Wellalage, who scored a magnificent century and led the way for his side.

Wellalage scored an astonishing 113 off 130 balls, laced with nine boundaries and four sixes, while Ranuda Somarathne also chipped in and scored a magnificent half-century. He remained unbeaten for his 57 off 70 balls, including three boundaries and two sixes.

For the Proteas, Kwena Maphaka starred; taking three wickets, while Matthew Boast picked two. Dewald Brevis, on the other hand, made one scalp.

In the 13th Place Play-off, Uganda stunned Scotland; winning the match by 51 runs.

Set to chase 227, the Scottish batting line-up could only manage to score 170; handing a massive victory to Uganda by 51 runs. Oliver Davidson and Jack Jarvis showed grit, while the rest of the batters failed to make an impact with the bat.

Davidson scored 31, while Jarvis remained top-scorer for the side with his quick 37 off just 33 balls, laced with six boundaries and a maximum.

For Uganda, Juma Miyaji bagged four wickets, while Christopher Kidega claimed three. Pius Olaka, on the other hand took two wickets.

Batting first, Uganda managed to score 226 despite a horrible start; losing the first wicket for just one run. Ronald Lutaaya and the skipper – Pascal Murungi then batted valiantly and partnered strongly to anchor the innings.

Murungi scored 49, while Lutaaya top-scored with 64 off 78 balls; smashing six boundaries and two sixes.

Jamie Cairns was the pick of the bowler for Scotland; picking six wickets, while Davidson, Jarvis and Sean Fischer-Keogh shared one wicket apiece.

India crush Bangladesh, qualify for U19 World Cup semi-final

COOLIDGE: India secured a comfortable victory over Bangladesh in the ICC Under 19 World Cup quarterfinal; defeating the latter by five wickets, here on Saturday.

Set to chase 112, India sealed a comfortable victory in the end by five wickets, with 115 balls to spare. Despite a poor start, Raghuvanshi and Shaik Rasheed anchored the run chase with an astonishing 70-runs partnership for the second wicket.

Rasheed scored 26, while Raghuvanshi top-scored with his 44 off 65 balls; smashing seven boundaries. The captain Yash Dhull down the order showed grit and guided the side to the victory in the 31st over after a brief middle-order collapse. He remained not out with his 20.

For Bangladesh, Ripon Mondol starred; bagging four wickets, while Tanzim Hasan Sakib made one scalp.

Batting first, Bangladesh’s batting line-up failed completely and could only manage to score 111. SM Meherob fought hard with his 30, while the rest of the batters seemed hapless against the strong Indian bowling attack. Eight Tiger batters could not even manage to reach into the double-figures.

For India, Ravi Kumar bagged three wickets, while Vicky Ostwal took two. Kaushal Tambe, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and Rajvardhan Hangargekar, on the other hand, struck out a batter each.

In the 9th Place Play-Off semi-final, Ireland sealed a thumping victory over Zimbabwe by eight wickets.

Set to chase 167, Ireland sealed a comfortable victory by eight wickets with 108 balls to spare. The Irish skipper – Tim Tector alongside Jack Dickson batted brilliantly and partnered strongly to anchor the run chase.

The pair recorded an unbeaten magnificent 159- runs partnership to steer the side over the line. Tector scored a magnificent 76 off 94 balls, laced with eight boundaries and a six, while Dickson top-scored with 78 off 88 deliveries; smashing eight boundaries and three sixes.

Batting first, the Zimbabwean batting line-up bundled out for a paltry 166 as the Irish bowler – Muzamil Sherzad initiated the collapse and took a five-fer. David Bennett and Brian Bennett fought hard for the side but, could not pull the team out of the danger. David scored 35, while Brian remained the top scorer with his 37.

For Ireland, Sherzad was the pick of the bowler as he bagged five for 20, while Matthew Humphreys took three for 32. Jamie Forbes, on the other hand, made one scalp.

UAE stun West Indies in the 9th Plate Play-Off semi-final of ICC U19 World Cup

PORT OF SPAIN: United Arab Emirates (UAE) stunned West Indies by 82 runs in the 9th Place Play-Off semi-final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup, here on Friday.

Set to chase 225, West Indies bowled out for a skimpy 142; handing a massive victory by 82 runs to the UAE. Home side’s Nathan Edwards fought hard; scoring an unbeaten valiant half-century. He scored 51 off 65 balls, including five boundaries, while the rest of the batters could not manage to contribute significantly.

For UAE, Dhruv Prashar bagged four wickets, while Jash Gayanani claimed three. Aayan Afzal Khan, Ronak Panoly, and Ali Naseer struck out a batter each.

Batting first, UAE posted a commendable total of 224 despite a top-order failure, thanks to Afzal Khan’s magnificent 93. He faced 121 deliveries and smashed 11 boundaries. Shival Bawa too, chipped in with his astonishing half-century; scoring 51 off 58, laced with five boundaries and two sixes.

For the home side, Shiva Sankar picked three wickets, while Edward and Matthew Nandu took two wickets each. Anderson Mahase and McKenny Clarke struck out a batter each.

In the 13th Place Play-Off semi-final, Uganda thumped Papa New Guinea (PNG) in a low-scoring contest.

Batting first, Uganda’s batting line-up failed to post a commendable total and could only manage to score 123. Cyrus Kakuru, however, fought hard and scored a gritty 65 off 59 balls, laced with 11 boundaries but, with a lack of support from the other end. His heroics could only steer the side to 123.

For PNG, John Kariko starred; taking a five-fer, while Junior Morea, Karoho Kevau, Boio Ray, and Aue Oru shared one wicket apiece.

Set to chase a paltry 124, PNG displayed an even worse batting display and bowled for 88. Morea top-scored with his 26, while eight of their batters could not even get into the double figures.

For Uganda, Juma Miyaji took four wickets, while Joseph Baguma picked three. Matthew Musinguzi, on the other hand, bagged two.
