NORTH SOUND: England sealed a comfortable six wickets victory over South Africa; chasing 210 in the 32nd over of the first Super League Quarter Final of the ICC Under 19 World Cup, here on Wednesday.

Set to chase 210, the English batting line-up easily chased down the total in the 32nd over with six wickets in hand thanks to William Luxton and Jacob Bethell who scored 47* and 88 respectively.

Bethell set the tone for the run chase with his quickfire 88 off 42 deliveries, laced with 16 boundaries and two sixes. Whereas, Luxton steered the side to the victory with a steady 47 off 41 balls, including six boundaries and two sixes.

For South Africa, Dewald Brevis bagged two wickets, while Asakhe Tsaka claimed one.

Batting first, the Proteas batting line-up failed to set a commendable total; bowling out for a skimpy 209. Brevis fought hard with his gritty 97 off 88 balls, including nine boundaries and four sixes, while the rest of the batters could not make a significant impact with the bat.

For England, Rehan Ahmed claimed four wickets, while Joshua Boyden and James Seales picked two wickets each. Bethell, on the other hand, struck out a batter.

PORT OF SPAIN: United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ireland clinch victories in the Plate Quarter Finals of the ongoing ICC Under 19 World Cup; defeating Uganda and Canada respectively, here on Monday.

In the first plate quarterfinal, UAE sealed a thrilling victory over Uganda by one wicket; chasing a paltry 124.

Adhitya Shetty (11*) and Jash Giyanani (4*) held their nerves calm to guide the side to the victory in the 41st over after the batting line-up’s failure.

UAE, despite having a decent start; putting on a 43-runs opening partnership fumbled and eventually got into trouble before Shetty and Giyanani showed heroic effort. Opener Kai Smith top-scored with his 25 off 32 balls; smashing five boundaries.

For Uganda, Joseph Baguma and Matthew Musinguzi bagged three wickets each, while Edwin Nugawaba claimed two. Yunusu Sowobi, on the other hand, struck out a batter.

Batting first, Uganda’s batting line-up also failed and could only manage to score 123; setting an easy target for the UAE. Captain Pascal Murungi scored 23, while Ronald Lutaaya top-scored with his 25; facing 47 deliveries.

In another quarterfinal, Ireland thumped Canada by 94 runs in a low scoring thriller; bowling out the latter for a skimpy 85.

Set to chase 180, the Canadian batting line-up failed completely and could only score 85, following a poor start, Gurnek Johal Singh and Kairav Sharma tried to retaliate a bit; scoring 15 and 19 respectively, while the rest of the batters remained unable to reach the double-figures.

For Ireland, Reuben Wilson picked three wickets, while Jamie Forbes and Nathan McGuire took two wickets each. Liam Doherty, Matthew Humphreys, and Muzamil Sherzad struck out a batter each.

Batting first, the Irish batting line-up too displayed a flop batting display as the side could only score 179. Philippus le Roux showed grit and scored a magnificent half-century; top-scoring with his 83, while the rest of the batters failed to make an impact with the bat.

le Roux faced 107 deliveries; smashing 12 boundaries. Forbes, on the other hand, was the second top-scorer with his 25.

For Canada, Ethan Gibson picked three wickets, while Parmveer Kharoud, Sheel Patel, and Sharma claimed two wickets each. Johal Singh, on the other hand, made one scalp.

DIEGO MARTIN: Afghan captain Suliman Safi scored a magnificent century before the bowlers wreaked havoc on the Zimbabwean batting line-up; bowling out the latter for a mere 152 to qualify for the quarterfinals of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup.

Batting first, Afghanistan set a decent total of 261/6 in the allotted 50 overs as captain Safi led from the front scoring a magnificent century to guide the side to a commanding position. Safi scored 111 off 118 deliveries, laced with 14 boundaries and three sixes. Nangeyalia Kharote, on the other hand, impressed with his 45-ball 50.

For Zimbabwe, Alex Falao claimed three wickets, Ngenyasha Zvinoera bagged two wickets.

Set to chase 262, Zimbabwean batting line-up collapsed to 152 all-out despite a good start. The right-handed opening batter scored a magnificent 53 but received no support from the other end, resulting in Zimbabwe bowled out for a skimpy 152 and crashed out of the title hunt.

For Aghanistan, Kharote picked four wickets, while Izharulhaq Naveed and Shahidullah Hasani bagged two wickets each. Noor Ahmad, on the other hand, made one scalp.

In another match of the World Cup, India recorded the highest score of the ongoing world cup, thanks to the remarkable batting display from Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Raj Bawa. The pair added a massive 206-runs partnership as both the batters scoring centuries providing a solid foundation for the team.

Raghuvanshi scored 144 off just 120 deliveries, including 22 boundaries and four sixes, while Bawa scored an unbeaten 162 off a mere 108 balls, laced with 14 boundaries and eight sixes.

For Uganda, Pascal Murungi bagged three wickets, while Yunus Sowobi and Christropher Kidega struck out a batter each.

Chasing a mammoth, Uganda’s batting line-up failed completely and bowled out for a mere 79; losing the match by 326 runs. Only Murungi and Ronald Opio were able to get into double figures; scoring 34 and 11 respectively.

In the Group A contest, Bangladesh sealed the victory by nine wickets against United Arab Emirates (UAE) to qualify for the quarterfinals.

In a rain interrupted match, Bangladesh easily chased down the revised target of 110 for the loss of one wickets with 61 balls remaining.

Batting first, UAE could only score 148 as none of their batters could not manage to go big with the bat. Punya Mehra, however, fought hard with his 43 but, remained unable to pull the side out of trouble.

For Bangladesh, Ripon Mondol grabbed three wickets, while Ashiqur Zaman and Tanzim Hasan Sakib bagged two wickets each. Ariful Islam, on the other hand, made one scalp.

Set to chase a paltry 110, Bangladesh easily chased down the target in the 25th over as Mahfijul Islam led the way with an unbeaten 63 off 69 deliveries, laced with six boundaries and two sixes. Iftakher Hossain, on the other hand, scored 37.

For UAE, only Jash Giyanani managed to claim a wicket.

BASSETERRE: Sri Lankan batter – Sadisha Rajapaksa scored 76 as Sri Lanka defeated West Indies by three wickets; topping the Group D and qualifying for the ICC Under 19 World Cup.

In the 19th match of the ongoing U19 World Cup, Sri Lankan batters showed combined batting effort to chase down the total in the 49th over with three wickets in hand.

The Lions, despite a poor start, held on their nerves to seal the victory. Anjala Bandara scored 40, followed by Rajapaksa, who top-scored with 76; facing 115 deliveries and smashing five boundaries.

The rest of the Sri Lankan batters also chipped in with the valuable contributions to drive the side to the victory.

For West Indies, McKenny Clarke and Isai Thorne bagged two wickets each, while Giovonte Depeiza, Shiva Sankar, and Nathan Edwards struck out a batter each.

Batting first, the hosts struggled to post a defendable total following a flop batting display and despite their middle-order batters’ contribution, the side managed to post 250/9 in the 50 overs. Kevin Wickham top-scored with 56, while Jordan Johnson scored 47.

For Sri Lanka, Dunith Wellalage bagged three wickets, while Matheesha Pathirana claimed two. Treveen Mathew, on the other hand, made one scalp.

In another match of the U19 World Cup, South Africa sealed a thumping victory over Ireland, defeating the latter by a massive margin of 153 runs.

Batting first, South African batters Dewald Brevis and George Van Heerden batted brilliantly to guide the Proteas to 315/7 in the allotted 50 overs. Brevis fell unlucky missing his well-deserved century by just four runs; scoring 96, while Heerden went on to smash a magnificent century. Heerden top-scored with 111 on just 93 balls, laced with three boundaries and eight sixes.

Michael Copeland’s late onslaught, in the end, boosted the side to 315/7; setting a 316-runs target for Ireland.

Set to chase 316, the Irish batting line-up failed completely and could only score 158, in response to South Africa’s 315. Nathan McGuire fought hard with his 42, but, could not manage to steer his side to victory.

For South Africa, Matthew Boast and Liam Alder bagged three wickets each, while Andile Simelane and Ashake Tsaka picked two wickets each.

TAROUBA: Awais Ali bagged three while skipper Qasim Akram managed to take two wickets as Pakistan beat Afghanistan by 24 runs to qualify for Quarter Finals in ICC U19 Cricket World Cup. 

Afghani batters fought hard after they were set to chase 240 runs in 50 overs. Bilal Sayedi smashed 42 runs off 81 balls including three boundaries and a six followed by Ijaz Ahmad Ahmadzai scoring 39 with the help of two boundaries and as many sixes.

Apart from Awais and Qasim, Maaz Sadaqat bagged a wicket as Pakistan managed to restrict Afghanistan to 215-9.

Earlier, Abdul Faseeh (68) and Mohammad Shehzad (43) set the tone for Pakistan by scoring 60 runs together for the second wicket partnership.

Maaz, in the end, played handy knock of 42 runs to drive the Green Shirts to 239-9 in 50 overs. His innings included seven boundaries.

For Afghanistan, Izharulhaq Naveed took three wickets while Naveed Zadran and Noor Ahmad bagged two wickets each.

In their first match, Pakistan won against Zimbabwe by 115 runs. They will now face Papua New Guinea (PNG) in their last group stage match on January 22.

BASSETERRE: Rehan Ahmed bagged four wickets as England outclassed United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 189 runs to win their third consecutive match and qualify for ICC U19 Cricket World Cup’s Quarter Finals. 

Set to chase mammoth 363 runs, UAE’s top-order collapsed as they bowled out for 173. Ali Naseer scored 54 runs off 44 balls including seven boundaries and a six. Alishan Sharafu made 21 runs.

Apart from Rehan, Joshua Boyden bagged two wickets while Nathan Barnwell, Jacob Bethell, Thomas Aspinwall, George Bell shared a wicket apiece.

Earlier, England’s top order scored 183 runs together as they posted 362-6. Tom Perst smashed 154 laced with 13 boundaries and four maximums. Jacob Bethell made 62 including eight boundaries and three sixes.

For UAE, Jash Giyanani bagged two wickets.

On the other hand, Bangladesh beat Canada by eight wickets to register their maiden victory in the mega event.

After deciding to bat first, Canada were bowled out for 136 runs. Anoop Chima scored 63 runs including seven boundaries.

Ripon Mondol and SM Meherob bagged four wickets each for Bangladesh.

In reply, Iftakher Hossain (61) and Prantik Nawrose Nabil (33) scored 76 runs together as Bangladesh easily chased the target in 30.1 overs.

For Canada, Parmveer Kharoud and Ethan Gibson shared a wicket apiece.

TAROUBA: Indian bowlers wreaked havoc on Ireland’s batting line-up before the batters provided a solid start to the side as the men in blue defeated the latter by a massive margin of 174 runs in the ongoing ICC Under 19 World Cup.

Batting first, India posted a total of 307/5 in the allotted 50 overs, thanks to the combined batting effort from the side’s top order.

The openers provided a solid 164 runs stand for the first wicket as Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Harnoor Singh both batted brilliantly. Raghuvanshi scored 79, while Singh top-scored with a terrific 88. He faced 101 deliveries and smashed 12 boundaries.

Following their departure, Raj Bawa also batted magnificently; scoring 42 including two boundaries and a six.

Later, Rajvardhan Hangargekar’s onslaught powered the side to 307/5. Rajvardhan scored a quickfire 39 off just 17 deliveries, laced with one boundary and five sixes.

For Ireland, Muzamil Sherzad bagged three wickets, while Jamie Forbes and Matthew Humphreys claimed one wicket apiece.

Set to chase 308, the Irish batting line failed completely as none of their batters could make an impact with the bat. Ireland, in the end, bowled out for a skimpy 133; losing the match by 174 runs. Scott MacBeth top-scored with 32.

For India, Kaushal Tambe, Aneeshwar Gautam, and Garv Sangwana picked two wickets each, while Hangargekar, Ravi Kumar, and Vicky Ostwal struck out a batter each.

In another match of the ongoing U19 World Cup, Australia sealed a consolidating victory over Scotland, defeating the latter by seven wickets while chasing 237.

Batting first, Charlie Tear and Tomas Mackintosh scored half-centuries, but, were a touch too slow. Therefore, despite the valuable contributions, the side could only post 236/8 in the allotted overs. Both Tear and Mackintosh scored 54 each, while Oliver Davidson scored 33.

For Australia, William Salzmann and Aidan Cahill bagged two wickets each, while Isaac Higgins and Joshua Garner made one scalp each.

In response, Australia comfortably chased down the total in the 40th over with seven wickets in hand. Teague Wyllie scored an amazing unbeaten century; scoring 101 off 115 deliveries, laced with eight boundaries and two sixes. Cahill, on the other hand, was also impressive as the right-handed batter scored a terrific 72 off just 45 deliveries. He smoked seven boundaries and four sixes.

For Scotland, Davidson picked two wickets, while Charlie Peet made one scalp.

DIEGO MARTIN: Aghanistan bowlers showed combined effort to bowl out Papa New Guinea (PNG) for a humiliating 65 after their batters could only set a target of 201 in the 13th match of the ICC Under 19 World Cup.

Batting first, Afghanistan started poorly; losing three wickets for just 40 runs. The skipper Suliman Safi and Ijaz Ahmad Ahmadzai anchored the innings with a valiant 105 runs partnership. Ahmadzai fell short on 45, however, Safi went on to smash a gritty half-century. He scored 62 off 76 deliveries and smoked nine boundaries.

Following a lower-order collapse, Afghanistan got bowled out for 200; setting an achievable target for PNG.

Katenalaki Singi starred with the ball for PNG; taking four wickets, while Rasan Kevau bagged two. Aue Oru, however, claimed two wickets followed by Barnabas Maha who managed to make one scalp.

Set to chase 201, the PNG batting lineup failed completely and had no answers to the Afghan bowling attack. The side was eventually bowled for a mere 65; losing the match by 135 runs. Junior Morea was the highest scorer for the PNG with his 13.

For Afghanistan, Izharulhaq Naveed claimed three wickets, while Nangyalai Khan, Naveed Zadran, and Noor Ahmad bagged two wickets each. Bilal Sami, on the other hand, took one wicket.

In another match of the ongoing U19 World Cup, South Africa crushed Uganda with a massive margin of 121 runs. Proteas bowlers too showed combined effort to dismiss the opposition for a mere 110. For Uganda, Isaac Ategeka could show a little fightback with his 29.

Dewald Brevis, Liam Alder, and Aphiwe Mnyanda dismissed two batters each, while Andile Simeland, Michael Copeland, Kwena Maphaka, and Matthew Boast struck out a batter each.

Batting first, the Proteas batting line also failed, but, Brevis’ heroic century guided the side to a commendable total of 231/9. He scored 104 off 110 deliveries, laced with 12 boundaries including a six. The skipper George Van Heerden also chipped in with his 36.

For Uganda, Juma Miyaji and Pascal Murungi picked three wickets each, while Yunusu Sowobi, Joseph Baguma, and Edwin Nuwagba struck out a batter each.

In the Group A match, England too sealed a thumping victory over Canada; defeating the latter by 106 runs after setting Canada to chase 321 in the allotted 50 overs.

Batting first, George Thomas, Tom Prest, and George Bell scored half-centuries to put the side onto the driving seat. Thomas scored 52 to set the tone, while Bell provided a solid conclusion with his quickfire 57 off just 35 balls; smashing three boundaries and as many sixes as England finished at 320/7 in the quota of 50 overs.

Prest, on the other hand, top-scored with his run-a-ball 93, missing his well deserved century by just seven runs as Kairam Sharma trapped the batter in his legs.

In reply, Canada’s batting line-up struggled throughout the innings and could only score 214, in response to England’s 320. Annop Chima scored 38, followed by the top-scorer for the side – Gurnek Johal Singh, who scored 44.

For England, Joshua Boyden starred with the ball; taking four wickets, while Prest and Jacob Bethell claimed three wickets each.

KARACHI: Pakistan Under 19 centurion – Haseebullah Khan claimed numerous records with his astonishing 135 against Zimbabwe in the ongoing ICC U19 World Cup.

Following his 135 against Zimbabwe, Haseebullah has now claimed the record for the highest individual score for Pakistan in U19 World Cups; surpassing Imam-ul-Haq’ 133 against Scotland in 2014. Babar Azam, on the other hand, has now moved to the third position with his 129 against West Indies in 2010.

Haseebullah has also set the record of the third-highest individual score for Pakistan in Youth ODIs, led by Abdul Razzaq’s 142 against Australia.

Furthermore, the left-handed batter has become just the sixth Pakistan’s batter to score a hundred in the U19 World Cup.

Haseebullah 135 assisted the green shirts to amass a total of 315 against Zimbabwe. Later, Awais Ali shone with the ball; claiming a six-fer as Pakistan thumped Zimbabwe by 115 runs in their first match.

BASSETERRE: Joshua Boyden picked up four wickets to set the tone for England to beat Bangladesh by seven wickets in the opening game of the ICC U19 World Cup. 

After deciding to bat first, Bangladesh were bowled out for 97 runs in 35.2 overs. SM Meherob scored highest 14 runs for them.

Apart from Boyden, Thomas Aspinwall bagged two wickets for England.

In reply, England chased the target in 25.1 overs. Jacob Bethell scored 44 runs off 63 balls including four boundaries and two sixes. James Rew remained not out for 26 as England scored 98-3.

Rakib ul Hasan and Ripon Mondol bagged a wicket each for Bangladesh.
