HAMILTON: The hosts of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup – New Zealand have secured second successive wins in the global event as Amelia Kerr and Lea Tahuhu fired with the ball after Amy Sattherwaite’s astonishing 75-runs knock to drive their side to a consolidating 62-runs victory over India, here on Thursday.

Set to chase 261, India could only manage to score 198 before being bowled out in the 47th over.

The side was off to a poor start; losing three wickets for 50 as Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma walked back to the pavilion after scoring cheaply, while Yastika Bhatia could score 28.

Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur then looked to fight back with their side stranded at 50/3. The pair notched up a valiant 44-runs partnership before Amelia removed the former for 31. Mithali faced 56 deliveries and smashed one boundary.

Kaur, on the other hand, stood firm and kept the scoreboard ticking singlehandedly while her side was losing wickets at an alarming rate.

The right-handed batter then also made her way back in the 44th over as Amelia struck her out for 71. She remained the top scorer for his side. Kaur faced just 63 balls and smashed eight boundaries including two sixes.

Her dismissal proved out to be a massive blow as the team blue soon bundled out for 198 in the 47th over as the tail-enders could not soak up the pressure put on them by the New Zealand’s bowling attack.

For the hosts, Amelia and Lahuhu claimed three wickets each, while Hayley Jensen picked two. Hannah Rowe and Jess Kerr, on the other hand, made one scalp each.

Batting first, the hosts put on a commendable total of 260/9 in the allotted 50 overs, thanks to the brilliant half-centuries from Amelia and Sattherwaite.

The White Ferns, despite starting poorly; losing their first wicket for a mere nine, soon recovered as Sophie Devine and Amelia anchored the innings with an important 45-runs partnership for the second wicket.

Sophie could not extend her stay at the crease for long as she departed in the 11th over after scoring 35, while Amelia went on to score a magnificent half-century. The latter scored 50 off 64 balls including five boundaries.

The star of the White Ferns with the bat Sattherwaite then played an exceptional 75-runs knock and inspired her side to a reputable total. She faced 84 balls and smashed nine boundaries.

The wicket-keeper batter Katey Martin also chipped in with her 41 and guided the side to the total as the tail-enders failed to make significant contributions with the bat.

For India, Pooja Vastrakar bagged four wickets, while Rajeshwari Gayakwad took two. Deepti and Jhulan Goswami, on the other hand, struck out a batter each.

DUNEDIN: West Indies’ wicket-keeper batter Shemaine Campbelle shone with her magnificent 66-runs knock before the bowlers displayed combined effort to propel their side to a second consecutive victory in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup, here on Wednesday.

Batting first in the seventh match of the mega event, West Indies managed to post a reputable 225/6 in the allotted 50 overs, thanks to Campbelle, who top-scored for the side with her brilliant knock of 66. She faced 80 deliveries and smashed four boundaries.

Chedean Nation, on the other hand, who also chipped in with her 49, partnered strongly with Campbelle for the fifth wicket as the side were four down for a combined score of 98 in the 27th over.

The pair put on an important 123-runs partnership and powered their side to a commendable total. Nation remained not out as she scored 49 off 74 balls with the help of three boundaries.

West Indian opener Hayley Matthews, on the other hand, also played an important knock of 45 runs before walking back to the pavilion in the 21st over. She recorded a brilliant 81-runs opening partnership with Deandra Dottin, who scored 31 off 64 balls.

For England, Sophie Ecclestone bagged three wickets, while Nat Sciver made one scalp.

Set to chase 226, the former champions England fell just seven short of pulling off the victory.

In the run chase, England were off to an unwanted start as they lost half of their side at a combined score of 94 and Tammy Beaumont, who was ticking the scoreboard singlehandedly was the latest blow to the former champions.

With the side struggling at 94/5, Danni Wyatt and Sophia Dunkley showed resistance and thrive to pull things back to their side’s favour.

The pair put on an important 60-runs partnership for the sixth wicket and almost brought England back into the game before Stafanie Taylor removed Dunkley for 38 in the 34th over.

Following Dunkley’s departure, Danni also made her way back to the pavilion in the next over Shamilia Connell dismissed the former for 33.

The side then ran into another collapse and in the end, bowled out on 218. Ecclestone remained not out with her gritty 33 but could not power her side to the victory.

For West Indies, Connell led the way with three wickets, while Matthews and Anisa Mohammed took two each. Aaliya Allenyne and Taylor, on the other hand, struck out a batter each.

MOUNT MAUNGANUI: Pakistan’s right-handed opening batter Javeria Khan has suffered a groin injury that may keep her out of the side’s next ICC Women’s World Cup fixture against South Africa.

Javeria, who previously missed Pakistan’s fixture against Australia after sustaining a groin injury, is also doubtful for the next match against South Africa.

Following Javeria’s injury, the right-handed experienced batter Nahida Bibi Khan replaced her in Pakistan’s clash with Australia and could only score nine runs.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan had an unwanted start to their ICC Women’s World Cup campaign as the side started the mega event with two consecutive defeats.

MOUNT MAUNGANUI: In the sixth match of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup, Australia’s Alyssa Healy starred with the bat to power her side seal a consolidating seven-wickets victory over Pakistan, here on Tuesday.

Set to chase a mere 192, Australia comfortable sealed a consolidating victory by seven wickets and 92 balls to spare.

Australia’s opener Healy shone with the bat in the run chase; scoring a brilliant 72 off 79 balls with the help of seven boundaries to set a perfect foundation for the run chase.

Healy’s opening partner Rachael Haynes, on the other hand, also batted brilliantly and put on a valiant 60-runs partnership for the first wicket with Healy. The left-handed batter was looking solid until the 11th over before Bismah Maroof dismissed her for a run-a-ball for 34.

Healy then put on another 60-plus partnership with the newly joined Meg Lanning. The pair took the score to 123 in the 22nd over before Lanning made her way back to the pavilion after scoring 35.

Following Healy’s dismissal in the 28th over, Ellyse Perry and Beth Mooney then put on an unbeaten and match-winning 40-runs partnership and took their side to the victory. Perry scored an unbeaten 26, while Mooney remained not out at 23.

For Pakistan, Omaima Sohail picked two wickets, while Bismah managed to make one scalp.

Batting first, Pakistan could only manage to score a paltry 190/6 in the allotted 50 overs despite the brilliant half-century knocks from Bismah and Aliya Riaz as the rest of the batters remained clueless in front of the Australian bowling attack and scored cheaply.

Bismah scored 78, while Aliya followed back with 53, but both the batters remained a little too defensive as Bismah faced a mammoth 122 balls, while Aliya faced 109.

For Australia, Alana King led the way with two wickets, while Megan Schutt, Perry, Amanda-Jade Wellington, and Nicola Carey struck out a batter each.

Following this victory, Australia have strengthen their top position on the points table, while Pakistan remained at the bottom with two defeats.

DUNEDIN: In the fifth match of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2022, the hosts New Zealand sealed a consolidating nine-wicket victory over Bangladesh, in a rain-affected contest, here on Monday.

In the morning, rain wiped off over four hours from the game, reducing it to 27 overs-a-side contest. But Suzie Bates made full use of being in the middle to lead New Zealand’s chase of 141 with seven overs to spare.

The right-handed batter scored a quickfire 79 off just 66 balls with the help of eight boundaries, while the top-order batter Amelia Kerr also joined Suzie to put on an unbeaten and match-winning 108-runs partnership. Kerr remained not out with her 47.

For Bangladesh, only Salma Khatun managed to pick a wicket as the rest of the bowlers could provide the firepower.

Batting first, Bangladesh, despite a decent start, could only manage to post 140/8 in the allotted 27 overs as Amy Satterthwaite and run-outs caused three wickets each.

Bangladesh’s openers Fargana Hoque and Shamima Sultana provided a decent start to the side with an opening 59-runs stand before Shamima walked back to the pavilion in the 10th over after scoring 33.

Following her dismissal, the side began to lose wickets and momentum from one end but Fargana remained firm at the other and kept the scoreboard ticking single-handedly and went on to score a gritty half-century.

The right-handed batter scored 52 off 63 balls with the help of a boundary before making her way back to the pavilion in the 24th over owing to a run-out.

For New Zealand, Satterthwaite bagged three, while Hayley Jensen and Frances Mackay claimed a wicket each.

MOUNT MAUNGANUI: India’s lower order batters Sneh Rana and Pooja Vastrakar put on a fighting 122-runs partnership before the bowlers annihilated Pakistan’s batting line-up to power their side to a consolidating 107 runs victory, here on Sunday.

In the first world cup game of the two arch-rivals, India emerged out as victorious as the side defeated Pakistan by a massive 107 runs margin.

Indian lower batters Sneh and Pooja provided an anchored 122 runs partnership for the eighth wicket when the side was stranded at 114/6 in the 34th over; powering their side to a commendable 244/7 in the allotted 50 overs.

The duo played sensibly and scored half-centuries to put their side into the commanding position against Pakistan. Pooja top-scored with 67, while Sneh followed back with 53.

Coming out to bat first, India had an unwanted start as the side lost their opener, Shafali Verma, at a combined score of four. The right-handed batter bagged a six-ball duck before being castled by Nida Dar.

Indian opener, Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma then provided a rescuing partnership for the side; putting on a valiant 94 runs partnership for the second wicket before Deepti walked back to the pavilion after scoring 40.

Soon after Deepti’s dismissal, Mandhana also walked back to the pavilion after scoring a gritty half-century. She scored 52 off 75 balls with the help of three boundaries and a six.

Their dismissals triggered a collapse and the side was soon slipped to 114/6 in the 34th over.

For Pakistan, Nida and Nashra Sandhu bagged two wickets each, while Diana Baig, Anam Amin, and Fatima Sana picked up a wicket each.

Set to chase 245, Pakistan’s batting line-up failed completely and could only manage to score 137 before being bowled out in 43 overs.

The right-handed opener Sidra Ameen and Diana resisted a bit for the green shirts; scoring 30 and 24 respectively, while the rest of the batters failed to contribute significantly in the run chase against the arch-rivals.

For India, Rajeshwari Gayakwad bagged four wickets, while Sneh and Jhulan Goswami claimed two wickets each. Deepti and Meghna Singh, on the other hand, struck out a batter apiece.

HAMILTON: England’s Nat Sciver’s unbeaten 109 went in vain as Australia sealed a thrilling victory over England by 12 runs in the third match of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2022, here on Saturday.

While chasing 311, England could only manage to score 298/8 despite a fighting century knock of Sciver.

The former champions had an unwanted start to their run chase; losing their first wicket for none as Lauren Winfield-Hill departed after bagging a four-ball duck.

Tammy Beaumont and Heather Knight then anchored the run chase with a valiant 92-runs partnership for the second wicket before Knight walked back to the pavilion after scoring 40. The skipper faced 51 balls and smashed four boundaries including a six.

Beaumont, on the other hand, stood firm and recorded another brilliant partnership. The right-handed batter put on a brilliant 57 runs partnership for the third wicket with Sciver.

The pair appeared firm as it accelerated the innings according to the required run rate before Beaumont perished after scoring a terrific knock of 74 runs off 82 balls, laced with seven boundaries.

Her departure triggered a collapse in the English batting line-up and the side remained unable to recover from it and as a result, restricted to 298/9 in the allotted 50 overs.

Sciver remained the lone warrior for England as the right-handed batter scored a magnificent unbeaten 109 off 85 balls; smashing 13 boundaries. But, her heroics too could not guide the side to the victory.

For Australia, Alana King bagged three wickets, while Tahlia McGrath, Annabel Sutherland, and Jess Jonassen claimed two each. Megan Schutt, on the other hand, struck out a batter.

Batting first, Australia finished at a commendable 310/3 in their allotted overs at the back of Rachel Haynes’s exceptional century.

The left-handed batter led the way for his side; scoring a tremendous 130 off 131 deliveries, laced with 14 boundaries and a six. The Australian skipper Meg Lanning, on the other hand, followed back with her outstanding 86 off 110 balls including seven boundaries and a six.

The rest of the Australian batters also contributed significantly to take their side to a commendable 310-3 in the allotted 50 overs.

For England, Sciver claimed two wickets, while Katherine Brunt managed to pick one.

In another match of the ongoing Women’s World Cup, South Africa thumped Bangladesh by 32 runs.

Batting first, South Africa managed to post 207 runs before being bowled out in the final over.

Laura Wolvaardt, Marizanne Kapp, and Chloe Tyron played contributing knocks to take their side over the 200 runs mark. Kapp top-scored with 42, while Wolvaardt and Tyron followed back with 41 and 39 respectively.

For Bangladesh, Fariha Trisna took three wickets, while Jahanara Alam and Ritu Moni picked two each. Salma Khatun and Rumana Ahmed, on the other hand, struck out a batter each.

Set to chase 208, Bangladesh’s batting line-up failed completely and could only manage to score 175 before being bowled out in the last over.

Despite starting off strongly as the openers Shamima Sultana Sharmin Akhter provided a solid 69-runs opening stand, the side faltered in the run chase and bowled out at 175.

The skipper and middle-order batter Nigar Sultana also resisted a bit; scoring a gritty 29 while her heroics too remained insufficient in driving her side to the victory. Akhter, however, remained the top scorer for the side with 34.

Ayabonga Khaka led the way for the Proteas; taking four wickets, while Masabata Klaas picked two. Shabnim Ismail and Kapp, on the other hand, struck out a batter each.

The first match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 went down to the wire with the West Indies emerging out as victorious.

The home side needed just six off the final over with their set batters Katey Martin and Jess Kerr on the crease. The West Indian skipper Stafanie Taylor picked Dottin to bowl the penultimate over and she, after removing both the set batters steered her side to a thrilling victory. Dottin’s two wickets and a run-out at the non-striker ended New Zealand’s hopes to taste their maiden triumph in the opener.

Set to chase 260, the hosts New Zealand could only manage to score 256 before being bowled out in the final over.

The White Ferns were off to a poor start to the run chase; losing their first wicket for a mere 14 as Suzie Bates departed after scoring cheaply. Following her departure, the side kept losing wickets at a consistent rate.

Sophie Devine, on the other hand, stood firm at the other end and kept the scoreboard ticking single-handedly and went on to score a magnificent century. She appeared top-notch before perishing in the 45th over after scoring 108 off 127 balls with the help of 10 boundaries.

Apart from Sophie, Katey and Kerr showed resistance down the order; scoring a 40-runs partnership, which eventually broke in the final over as Dottin trapped Katey in legs for 44. Similarly, Jess too fell short of the right-arm pacer as she lost her wicket on the second last bowl of the over after scoring a gritty 25.

For West Indies, Dottin, Anisa Mohammed, Hayley Matthews bagged two wickets each, while Shakera Salman and Chinelle Henry struck out a batter each.

Batting first, West Indies finished at 259/9 in the allotted 50 overs, thanks to Matthews’s magnificent century. The right-handed batter carried her bat till the 45th over and scored 119 off 128 balls with the help of 16 boundaries and a six, while the rest of the batters also made valuable contributions to take their side to a commendable total.

For New Zealand, Lea Tanuhu claimed three, while Jess took two. Hannah Rowe and Amelia Kerr struck out a batter each.

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled a star-studded commentary panel for the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup 2022, Pakistan’s Sana Mir also included.

In a press release, shared on the official website of the ICC, the cricket council revealed the star-studded commentary panel which will provide expert opinion during the eight-team tournament in New Zealand from 4 March to 3 April.

The commentary panel includes recognizable voices of Naseer Hussain, Ian Smith, Simon Doull, former Pakistan captain Sana, India’s Sanjay Manjrekar, and Alan Wilkins.

The panel also includes two ICC Hall of Famers – Debbie Hockley and Lisa Sthalekar, while Anjum Chopra, Mel Jones, Lesley Murdoch, Natalie Germanos, Lydia Greenway, Stacy-Ann King, WV Raman, and Kass Naidoo will also be commentating during the global event.

It is pertinent to mention here that the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 will begin on Friday with the hosts New Zealand taking on West Indies in Mount Maunganui.

CHRISTCHURCH: Australia’s star all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner has tested COVID-19 positive ahead of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022, starting from tomorrow.

The Australian side, jolted by a fresh blow on the eve of the Women’s World Cup as their in-form all-rounder Ashleigh has contracted the widely spread virus.

According to cricket.com.au, Ashleigh will miss at least the first two matches of Australia’s ODI World Cup campaign after her contraction to the virus.

Ashleigh will now isolate in Christchurch for ten days following New Zealand government health rules, which will keep her out of the action in Australia’s games against England on Saturday and Pakistan on Tuesday.

The star-allrounder is however likely to make her way back into the side before Australia’s fixture against New Zealand on March 13 in Wellington.

Fast bowling allrounder Annabel Sutherland and spin-bowling allrounder, Grace Harris are probable to replace Ashleigh in the side’s first two matches of the World Cup campaign.

It is worth mentioning here that the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 will begin on Friday with hosts New Zealand taking on West Indies in Mount Maunganui.
