All-round Erasmus steers Lions to second victory in Max60 Caribbean

THE CAYMAN ISLANDS: Gerhard Erasmus backed his 2/16 with an anchoring 27-run knock and powered Miami Lions to a thumping seven-wicket victory over Boca Raton Trailblazers in the 15th match of the Max60 Caribbean here on Thursday.

Put into bat first, the Trailblazers could accumulate 87/7 in the allotted 10 overs despite their skipper David Warner’s 40-run knock.

The left-handed batter waged a lone battle for the Trailblazers while wickets kept tumbling at the other end.

Warner carried his bat all the way till the penultimate over and returned as the top-scorer. His gutsy knock featured three fours and two sixes.

Besides him, only Jack Jarvis (12) contributed significantly while the rest of the Trailblazers’ batters failed to make it into the double figures.

Gerhard Erasmus and Sajad Ahmadzai bagged two wickets each for the Lions while Conroy Wright, Ravi Bopara and Ben Manenti shared three wickets between them.

Set to chase 88, the Lions amassed the target for the loss of three wickets and 12 balls to spare.

The Lions, however, had a contrasting start to their pursuit as they lost Asghar Afghan on the first legal delivery of the innings with five runs on the board.

The early blow did not trouble the Lions much as Erasmus joined Jonathan Carter in the middle and they combined to forge a match-defining partnership.

The pair added 58 runs to the total inside five overs before Carter fell victim to Colin de Grandhome. The opening batter scored a 14-ball 21 with the help of two fours and a six.

Erasmus perished an over later, top-scoring for the Lions with a 20-ball 27, laced up with two fours and as many sixes.

Corey Anderson then did the final touches with a quickfire cameo. He smashed two fours and a six on his way to an 11-ball 21.

For the Trailblazers, Jarvis, Steven McGiffin and de Grandhomme made one scalp each.

The seven-wicket victory lifted Miami Lions to the fifth in the Max60 Caribbean standings with four points in seven matches while Boca Raton Trailblazers succumbed to the bottom with three points in five matches.

Caribbean Tigers thrash Miami Lions to stay perfect in Max60

THE CAYMAN ISLANDS: Suranga Lakmal’s economical bowling figures of 2/11, followed by Chris Lynn’s unbeaten 26-run cameo powered Caribbean Tigers to a six-wicket victory over Miami Lions in the 10th match of the Max60 Caribbean here at Jimmy Powell Oval on Wednesday.

Put into bat first, the Lions could accumulate 70/6 in the allotted 20 overs despite an anchoring fourth-wicket partnership between Gerhard Erasmus and Chadwick Walton.

The Lions had a dismal start to their innings as they were reduced to 9/3 in two overs while Unmukt Chand (3) got retired hurt.

Following the slump, wicketkeeper batter Walton joined Erasmus in the middle and launched an astounding recovery.

The duo added an important 49 runs amid their gritty partnership until Patrick Dooley dismissed Erasmus in the penultimate over.

Gerhard Erasmus remained the top-scorer for the Lions with a 20-ball 27 with the help of a six.

The Lions lost two wickets in the final over which barred them from pushing for valuable runs at the backend of the innings.

Walton remained unbeaten with a run-a-ball 22 which featured one four and a six.

Suranga Lakmal was the pick of the bowlers for the Tigers with 2/11 in his two overs while Patrick Dooley, Brad Currie and Andrew Tye made one scalp each.

Chasing a modest 71-run total, the Tigers comfortably knocked down the winning runs for the loss of four wickets and 11 balls to spare.

Opening Josh Brown went after the Lions’ bowlers from the word go and gave the Tigers a head start with a quickfire 26 off just 12 deliveries, laced up with three deliveries.

Following his dismissal, Chris Lynn took charge of the Tigers’ pursuit and single-handedly steered them to an important victory.

Lynn top-scored for the Tigers with an unbeaten 28 off 16 deliveries, peppered with three fours and a six.

Sajad Ahmadzai bagged two wickets for the Lions while Ben Manenti and Corey Anderson struck out a batter apiece.

The six-wicket victory strengthened Caribbean Tigers’ command at the top of the Max60 Caribbean standings with 10 points in five matches while Miami Lions remained at the bottom with zero points in as many matches.

Little, Dunk lift Jaguars to thump Lions in Max60 Caribbean

THE CAYMAN ISLANDS: Josh Little bagged three wickets before Ben Dunk’s quickfire 32-run knock powered Grand Cayman Jaguars to a resounding eight-wicket victory over Miami Lions in the seventh match of Max60 Caribbean on Tuesday.

Put into bat first, the Lions only managed to accumulate 79/9 in the allotted 10 overs despite Gerhard Erasmus’ anchoring knock.

The Lions got off to a disastrous start to their innings as they were reduced to 14/3 in two overs.

Coming out to bat at No.5, Erasmus offered some resistance with his blistering cameo before falling victim to Sikandar Raza, bringing the total down to 65/5 in eight overs.

Erasmus smashed three fours and a six on his way to top score for the Lions with a 20-ball 32.

Besides Ravi Bopara (18) made notable contributions to the Lions’ total while the rest of their batters failed to amass the double figures.

Josh Little led the bowling charge for Grand Cayman Jaguars with 3/19 in his two overs, followed by Mitchell McClenaghan with two wickets while Sikandar Raza, Logan van Beek and Terrance Hinds made one scalp each.

Chasing a modest 80-run target, the Jaguars comfortably knocked the winning runs for the loss of just two wickets and 19 balls to spare.

Leading the way for the home side was hard-hitting opener Ben Dunk, who laid a solid foundation with a blistering 32-run cameo, which featured four fours and two sixes.

He was supported by fellow opener Alex Hales, who made a brisk 24 off 13 deliveries with the help of three boundaries and a six.

The opening pair added 56 runs in the run chase before both perished in successive overs.

Later, Sikandar Raza (9*) and Saif Zaib (7*) made sure the momentum remains in the Jaguars’ favour and steered their side to a comfortable victory.

The eight-wicket victory lifted Grand Cayman Jaguars to third in the Max60 Caribbean standings with three points in three matches while Miami Lions remained at the bottom.

Bowlers wreak havoc as Strikers crush Lions in Max60

CAYMAN ISLANDS: Isuru Udana dismantled Miami Lions’ batting lineup with a three-for and led New York Strikers to a convincing five-wicket victory in the fourth match of the Max60 here on Monday.

Put into bat first, the Lions’ batting unit unfolded on a meagre 52 in nine overs.

Miami Lions found themselves in heaps of trouble from the very first over as opening batter Chadwick Walton perished for three.

The Lions then lost a wicket each in the second and third overs before Mitchell Owen struck twice in the fifth over to reduce them to 22/5.

The Strikers’ bowlers, fuelled with momentum, continued to make inroads as the Lions sank further to 35/7 in 6.2 overs.

Coming out to bat at No.9, Ben Manenti, offered some resistance with his 14-run cameo which came off eight deliveries before falling victim to Isuru Udana in the penultimate over.

Manenti was the only batter to amass the double figures while the rest seemed hapless against a ruthless Strikers’ bowling attack.

Udana was the pick of the bowlers for the Strikers with three wickets, followed by Thisara Perera and Mitchell Owen, who bagged two each.

Despite chasing a modest 53-run target, the Strikers had to make hard yards to amass the total as they did it for the loss of five wickets and 11 balls to spare.

The Strikers, after a shaky start, lost wickets at an alarming rate and were consequently reduced to 39/5 in 6.1 overs.

Top-order batter Colin Munro played an anchoring role for the Strikers in the run chase and returned unbeaten with a 16-ball 18.

Brandon McMullen (10) and Carlos Brathwaite (8*) were the other notable contributors for the Strikers.

The five-wicket victory lifted New York Strikers to third in the Max60 standings with two points while Miami Lions slipped to fourth.
