Babar, pacers power Pakistan to whitewash Netherlands in ODI series

ROTTERDAM: Pakistan captain Babar Azam led the way for his side with a magnificent 91 before pacers Naseem Shah and Mohammad Wasim Jr decimated the Netherlands batting lineup and powered the touring side to complete a clean sweep in the ODI series.

Set to chase a paltry 207, the Netherlands batting line-up crumbled on 197, thus handing a narrow nine-run victory to the men in green.

The home side were off to a dismal to their run chase as they lost three wickets for a mere 37 runs in the 14th over.

Left-handed opener Vikramjit Singh, however, stood firm and kept the scoreboard ticking single-handedly before running into an important 71-run partnership with Tom Cooper for the fourth wicket.

The pair appeared solid with Singh amassing his half-century before Mohammad Wasim Jr removed the former for 50. He faced 85 deliveries and smashed seven boundaries.

Following his departure, Cooper stood up for his team and kept the scoreboard ticking single-handedly while the hosts were losing wickets at a regular interval at the other end.

The right-handed batter top-scored for the side with 62 off 105 deliveries before falling to Wasim Jr in the 46th over. He smashed four boundaries in the course of his gritty knock.

The rest of the Dutch batters remained clueless in front of a strong Pakistan bowling attack as the visitors clinched the victory by nine runs in the third ODI.

Right-arm pacer Naseem led the way for Pakistan with a five-wicket haul, while Wasim Jr followed back with four wickets to his name.

Pakistan, after opting to bat first, could not pose a commendable total on the board as the touring side bowled out for a paltry 206 in the 50th over.

Batting first, the touring side was off to a dismal start as the debutant Abdullah Shafique walked back to the pavilion in the second over after scoring two.

Following his departure, left-handed opener Fakhar Zaman and skipper Babar anchored the innings with a gritty 55-run partnership for the second wicket before Logan van Beek castles the former on 26 to provide an early breakthrough to the Netherlands.

Babar then joined hands with the youngster Salman Ali Agha and added 46 runs for the third wicket before the latter fell short after attempting to go big. He scored 24 off 42 deliveries and smashed a boundary.

Pakistan then began to lose wickets at an alarming, while Babar, on the other end, held his ground firm and kept the scoreboard ticking single-handedly.

The right-handed batter top-scored for the side and led from the front with a valiant knock of 91 runs off 125 deliveries, laced with seven boundaries and two sixes.

Besides Babar, left-handed all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz remained the other significant contributor as he scored an important 27 off 45 deliveries including a boundary and two sixes.

Pakistan’s batting tail then had no answers to the Dutch bowling attack and the touring side, in the end, bowled out for a skimpy 206 in the final over.

For the Netherlands, Bas de Leede led the way with three wickets, while Vivian Kingma bagged two. Shariz Ahmed, van Beek, and Aryan Dutt, on the other hand, made one scalp each.

Practice underway as Pakistan set to take on Netherlands in third ODI

ROTTERDAM: The national ODI squad held a practice session ahead of their final encounter with the Netherlands in the ongoing three-match series.

The national players carried out robust practice sessions on Saturday ahead of the third ODI against the Netherlands, scheduled to take place on Sunday.

Taking to Twitter, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also shared pictures of the ODI squad partaking in an enduring practice session. The players engaged in vigorous fielding drills alongside net sessions for bowling and batting practice.

Pakistan lead the three-match series 2-0 and will be looking to clean sweep the victory to earn vital points in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup Super League.

Following their victory in the second ODI, the Green Shirts jumped two places to capture the third position in the standings, while a victory in the third match can bolster the touring side to claim the second position.

Pakistan crush Netherlands in second ODI to claim series victory

ROTTERDAM: Pakistan captain Babar Azam led the solid foundation after a dismal start while the wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha displayed grit with unbeaten fifties as Pakistan thumped the Netherlands by seven wickets in the second ODI.

Set to chase a mere 187, Pakistan comfortably steered to victory in the 34th over for the loss of three wickets.

The touring side were off to a dismal start to their run chase as they lost both their openers at a skimpy total of 11 in the fourth over.

Following the early horror, skipper Babar and wicket-keeper batter Rizwan stood up and anchored the run chase with a valiant 88-run partnership before the former fell briefly after amassing his half-century.

Babar scored 57 off 65 deliveries, laced with seven boundaries, while Rizwan held his ground and embarked a match-winning partnership with Salman.

The pair took on the Dutch bowlers and maintained the momentum in their favour as they scored runs at a decent pace and eventually led Pakistan to a resounding victory in the 34th over.

Rizwan top-scored for the side with an unbeaten 69 off 82 balls with the help of six boundaries and a six, while Salman scored an unbeaten 50 off a mere 35 balls.

The right-handed batter smashed five boundaries and two sixes – out of which, one came on the penultimate delivery of the match, which saw him amassing his first half-century in white-ball cricket.

For the Netherlands, Vivian Kingma impressed as he bagged two wickets, while Aryan Dutt made one scalp.

The Netherlands, after opting to bat first, could not set a commendable target for Pakistan as the side bundled out for 186 in the 45th over despite the fifties from Bas de Leede and Tom Cooper.

Batting first, the home side were off to a dismal start as they lost three wickets for a mere eight runs in the third over.

Cooper and de Leede then anchored the proceedings for the hosts as they added a valiant 109 runs for the fourth wicket.

Right-handed batter Cooper, who enjoyed a second life after Naseem Shah overstepped while dismissing him caught and ball, went on to smash a brilliant half-century before Nawaz removed him in the 26th over for 66. He faced 74 balls and smashed nine boundaries and two sixes.

The hosts then again began to lose wickets at an alarming rate while de Leede held his ground firm and kept the scoreboard ticking single-handedly.

Besides de Leede and Cooper, only all-rounder Logan van Beek could amass the double figures as the rest of the batters failed to contribute significantly.

Right-handed batter de Leede top-scored for the side with a valiant knock of 89 runs off 120 deliveries, laced with two boundaries and three sixes before Haris removed him in the 45th over.

For Pakistan, Haris and Nawaz bagged three wickets each, while Naseem claimed two. Shadab Khan and Mohammad Wasim Jr, on the other hand, made one scalp each.

‘We could’ve played better’ Fakhar on Pakistan’s narrow victory in first ODI

ROTTERDAM: Pakistan’s star with the bat of the first ODI against the Netherlands, Fakhar Zaman admitted that the touring side could have played better against the hosts.

Fakhar, who led the charge for a competitive total for Pakistan with a magnificent century, spoke to this reporter and here and acknowledged that the Green Shirts could have played better while emphasizing different conditions resulting in the slow start for the touring side.

“No doubt, we could have played better than this. The ball was seeming at the start a bit too much and the Dutch bowlers too did exceptionally well. So, credit goes to them also,” Fakhar said.

“We were facing difficulty in the start as the ball was seeming quite a lot and there were spinners as well. So the plan with Babar was that we should not give away wickets no matter how few the runs were,” he revealed.

The left-handed opener then went on to comment on the team’s performance and the narrow victory against the Netherlands and emphasized that no team is weak in international cricket while asserting that players did not feel that the match was slipping away from their grip at any stage.

“At no point did we feel that the match was slipping away. This is cricket and you can’t relax until the last ball, Netherlands played well but the match was in our hands,” Fakhar asserted.

“No team is weak, three of their players were dismissed early but the partnership remained brilliant for them,” he concluded.

It is apropos to mention here that the full-strength Pakistan side managed to hold on the Netherlands by a bare margin of 16 runs in the first ODI of the three-match series.

Fakhar was the pick of the batters as he smashed a magnificent 109 off as many balls, laced with 12 boundaries and a six.

Fakhar, bowlers power Pakistan to edge past Netherlands in first ODI

ROTTERDAM: Pakistan right-arm pacers Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf stunned the Dutch batting line-up after left-handed opener Fakhar Zaman led the way with an astonishing century as the Green Shirts beat Netherlands by 16 runs in the first ODI.

Set to chase 315, the hosts fell 16 runs short despite half-centuries from Vikramjit Singh, Tom Cooper, and Scott Edwards.

The hosts were off to a dismal start to their run chase as the side lost two wickets at a combined score of 24 in the fifth over as Max O’Dowd and Wesley Baressi fell cheaply.

Right-handed batter Bas de Leede then joined hands with Singh for a brief third-wicket partnership that propelled the Netherlands to 62 in the 13th over before the former perished after being trapped in his legs by Mohammad Wasim Jr for 16.

Cooper then joined Singh in the middle which sparked a magnificent partnership for the hosts as the dependable pair added 97 runs for the fourth wicket and tested the Pakistan bowling attack.

The partnership, however, could not flourish for more as Haris struck again to provide a much-need breakthrough to Pakistan. The right-handed batter scored 65 off 54 deliveries including six boundaries and two sixes.

Meanwhile, Singh also perished briefly after Cooper’s dismissal as left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz trapped him in front for 65. He faced 98 deliveries and smashed five boundaries.

Following the departure of the set batters, Pakistan bowlers quickly dominated the Dutch batting attack and halted the flow of runs for the home side. Netherlands skipper Edwards displayed character as he scored an unbeaten and valiant 71 off a mere 60 deliveries, laced with six boundaries and a six.

His heroic knock too, could not power the Netherlands over the line as the home side fell 16 runs short in the run chase and hence allowing Pakistan to start their series on a winning note.

Haris and Naseem were the picks of the bowlers for Pakistan as the right-arm pacers bagged three wickets each, while Nawaz and Wasim Jr managed to make one scalp each.

Pakistan, after winning the toss, opted to bat first against the hosts and were halted by a poor start as the touring side lost their opener Imam-ul-Haq in the sixth over at a mere score of 10.

Following his departure, Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam anchored the innings for Pakistan as the pair added 168 runs for the second wicket. Fakhar led the charge with a century, while Babar remained unable to convert his fifty into a ton.

The right-handed batter lost his wicket in the 35th over while looking to shift the momentum and pace up his slow knock. However, while attempting to slog the ball, Babar miscued it to mid-off and walked back to the pavilion after scoring 74 off 85 deliveries, laced with six boundaries and a six.

Pakistan’s top-scorer for the first ODI, Fakhar, on the other hand, amassed his century but fell briefly after reaching it as he was run out a couple of overs later. The left-handed batter scored a run-a-ball 109 with the help of 12 boundaries and a six.

Fakhar’s dismissal sparked a frustrating collapse for the touring side as Pakistan lose three wickets in quick succession as wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan, Khushdil Shah, and Nawaz perished after scoring cheaply.

Following the collapse, leg-spinning all-rounder Shadab Khan stood up for his team and smashed a quickfire 48 off 28 balls including four boundaries and two sixes, while the debutant Agha Salman offered a helping hand with a valiant knock of 27 off 16 deliveries.

Both batters remained unbeaten as Pakistan finished at 314-6 in the allotted 50 overs.

For the Netherlands, Bas de Leede and Logan van Beek bagged two wickets each, while Vivian Kingma made one scalp.

The action-filled series is being telecasted live on Pakistan’s first HD Sports channel – A Sports and will be simultaneously streamed on the digital platform of ARY Digital Network – ARY ZAP in crystal clear HD quality.
