Three PJL stars added to Pakistan Test squad

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Interim Selection Committee has added three top performers of the Pakistan Junior League to the national Test squad.

Pakistan Cricket Board on Tuesday announced that all-rounder Arafat Minhas, top-order batter Basit Ali and right-arm fast bowler Mohammad Zeeshan have been added to the squad as part of its strategy and vision to develop, grow and incentivise high-performing talented youngsters.

“We are not only looking at present but also have an eye on the future. In this relation, we have added three top-performers from our age-group cricket so that they can spend time with their stars in the national side and learn how to plan and prepare for high pressure matches.” said the Chairman of Men’s Interim Selection Committee, Shahid Afridi.

“Although the three players will not be available for selection, this initiative will fast track their progress and provide them better awareness, understanding and knowledge about the rigours and demands of top-grade cricket.” he added.

Minhas was the best all-rounder of the inaugural edition of the PJL as he scored 178 runs and took nine wickets for Gwadar Sharks, while Bahawalpur Royals’ Basit Ali was named player and best batter of the PJL after finishing as the top-scorer with 379 runs. He also featured in the U19 series against Bangladesh in Multan in November.

Zeeshan, Basit’s team-mate at PJL, was declared the best bowler of the tournament with 14 wickets.

Training camp of Test squad for Sri Lanka tour commences at Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: Preparations for the Pakistan cricket team’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka have kicked off with the commencement of the training camp of the 18-member national Test squad, here at Pindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has released the photographs of the underway training camp on its official Twitter handle.

According to details, the six-day training camp of the national Test squad will be comprised of two two-day warm-up matches.

The first practice match will take place on June 26 and 27, meanwhile, the second match will be held from June to July 1.

Following the conclusion of the training camp, head coach Saqlain Mushtaq will hold a press talk, intimating the media about the team’s preparation for the tour.

Pakistan are set to lock horns against the hosts Sri Lanka in two Tests in their upcoming tour. The first Test will commence on July 16 at Galle, while the second Test will be staged at Colombo from July 24 to July 28. The national team will also be playing in a three-day warm-up from July 11 to July 13 before the two Tests.

Yasir Shah returns as Pakistan announce Test squad for Sri Lanka tour

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced an 18-member national squad for the upcoming two-match overseas Test series against Sri Lanka.

Leg spinner Yasir Shah made a return in the recently announced squad, meanwhile, uncapped Salman Ali Agha received a maiden call-up.

Under the captaincy of Babar Azam, the squad includes Mohammad Rizwan (vice-captain, wicketkeeper), Abdullah Shafique, Azhar Ali, Faheem Ashraf, Fawad Alam, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Nauman Ali, Salman Ali Agha, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wicketkeeper), Saud Shakeel, Shaheen Afridi, Shan Masood, and Yasir Shah.

Chief Selector of Pakistan Cricket team Muhamamd Wasim stated while announcing the squad that the players had been made selected considering the conditions in Sri Lanka.

“We have selected this squad considering the conditions in Sri Lanka and have equipped the team with the best possible resources,” said Wasim.

PCB has further announced the schedule of the national team ahead of the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

PCB would set up a seven-day training camp commencing from June 26 to July 2 at the Pindi Stadium before the departure of the national squad on July 6.
