KARACHI: Northern defeated Southern Punjab, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) beat Balochistan in the ninth round of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (QEAT) on Tuesday.

In the third match of the on-going ninth round, Northern resumed their innings at an overnight score of 421/9, started well, adding a valuable 41-runs into their overnight score. The side, eventually, finished at 462 in their first innings.

Trailing by 224, Southern started their second innings, could not get going, crumbled to 219 all-out in their second innings. Only Mohammad Imran was their notable performer with the bat, scoring a gritty 91. He remained the top scorer for his side in the second innings. Tayyab Tahir, too, showed fightback, but, could only manage to score 31.

Nauman Ali was the star performer for the Northern, taking six wickets for just 92 runs. Whereas, Kashif Ali, too, was impressive, taking three wickets. The bowling heroics helped Northern thump Southern by an innings and five runs.

In the first match of the penultimate round, KPK sealed an emphatic victory over Balochistan, defeating the later by 145 runs.

Chasing 281, Balochistan resumed their innings at 38/3, could only add 97 runs for their remaining seven wickets. The side, eventually, bundled out for 135 in the second innings.

For Balochistan, only Shan Masood showed fightback, scoring 70 runs. The rest of their batters could not contribute significantly.

For KPK, returning Sajid Khan, starred; picking six wickets for just 28 runs. Sameen Gull, too, was impressive with his two wickets.

In another ninth round match, table-toppers Sindh, eyeing victory as their opposition, Central Punjab, looking in trouble, chasing 307.

Resuming at an overnight score of 142/5, Sindh batters, showed fightback, adding 196 runs for their last five wickets. The skipper, Asad Shafiq, played a tremendous knock; scoring 97 runs, missing his century by just three runs.

Sohail Khan, too, chipped in, and scored 73 runs, while Mohammad Hassan scored an astonishing 49. Sindh, in the end, scored 338 runs in their second inning.

Chasing 307, Central, looking in trouble; losing five wickets for just 55 runs.

Sindh’s premium fast bowler, Sohail, fired for his side; taking three wickets for a mere 13 runs.

Rizwan Hussain (21*) will resume the run chase for his side on the final day.

KARACHI: Northern’s batters, Faizan Riaz and Umer Amin, both scored hundreds to put their team in the driving seat in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy’s ninth-round match against Southern Punjab.

Resumed at an overnight score of 54/3, Umer and Faizan played valiant knocks and partnered strongly to get their side to amass a massive total of 421/9 at stumps.

The pair put on a massive 308-runs partnership for the fourth wicket and helped their side get into a commanding position.

Faizan scored 168 off 268 balls with 22 fours and two sixes for his 13th first-class century, while the skipper, Umer, scored 158 off 271 balls with 22 fours and one six for his second century of the tournament.

For Southern, Ali Usman picked four wickets, while Naseem Shah and Mohammad Ilyas picked two wickets apiece.

In the second match of the ninth round, Central Punjab declared their innings at 187/9 after securing a 32-runs lead. Their opposition, Sindh, in reply, scored 142/5 before the stumps called.

Central, resuming at an overnight score of 78/3, Abid Ali and Muhammad Saad looked to stretch their partnership before Saad dismissed on 49. Abid, on the other hand, missed his century; scoring 98 runs before being dismissed by Tabish Khan. Abid remained the top-scorer for his side.

Tabish and Abrar Ahmed each took three wickets for Sindh, while Sohail Khan took two.

In the second inning, Sindh began the proceeding; trailing by 32-runs, halted by a poor start. However, their captain, Asad Shafiq played a gritty knock, scoring a half-century but no other batter could hold on for long. The batter remained not-out on 56 before stumps called.

In another ninth-round match of QEAT, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) bowled out for 264 in the second innings, setting a 281-runs target for Balochistan.

Ashfaq Ahmed top-scored with a brilliant 73, followed by Rehan Afridi, who scored a handy 48.

For Balochistan, Taj Wali starred picking seven wickets in the second innings, finishing with 11 wickets in the match.

Chasing 281, Balochistan again, started poorly as the side lost three wickets cheaply. The side will resume the run chase with 38/3 on Tuesday. Shan Masood (10*) and Taimur Ali will resume Balochistan’s run-chase.

KARACHI: Southern Punjab’s Salman Ali Agha scored a brilliant century to help his side avoid a possible disaster against Northern.

In the third match of the ongoing ninth round of the Quaid-e-Azam trophy (QEAT), Southern started poorly as the side lost their first wicket for just 33 runs.

Tayyab Tahir was the dismissed batter, who could only score 14. Soon after, the side lost two more wickets in quick succession and slipped to 65/3.

Salman, however, was impressive, the batter was looking to build partnerships but, no other batter held on for long. Salman scored a brilliant 142 off 183 balls, laced with 23 boundaries and a six.

Salman’s valiant batting display assisted Southern to put 238 runs on the board in their first inning. Zeeshan Ashraf scored 24 and was the top scorer for the side after Salman.

Northern’s Nauman Ali wreaked havoc on the Southern batters, picking six wickets, while Ather Mahmood and Mubashir Khan each took two wickets.

In reply to Southern’s 238, Northern started horrifically, losing their first two wickets for just nine runs. Muhammad Huraira bagged a duck, while, last match centurion, Sarmad Bhatti, could only score four.

Zaid Khan then looked to build a partnership with his skipper Umer Amin, but, he too dismissed. Zaid could only score 20, and the Northern were three down for 41.

Umer and Faizan Riaz then neutralized the situation as both the batters ensured that their side do not lose any wickets. Umer (17*) and Faizan (10*), will resume the proceedings for Northern at 54/3 on day two.

Muhammad Abbas, Naseem Shah, and Muhammad Ilyas each took a wicket for Southern.

In the second match of the ninth round, Central Punjab’s bowlers annihilated the Sindh batting lineup as the table-toppers were forced to declare at 155/9 in the first inning.

Batting first, Sindh started poorly, losing two wickets for just four. Khurram Manzoor scored one, while Ahsan Ali could only score three.

The side began to lose wickets at a consistent rate and were slipped to 51/6. Fawad Alam and Sohail Khan, showed fightback, the pair recorded 64 runs partnership before Fawad dismissed on 32.

Sindh’s batting tail also failed, and the side, eventually, declared at 155/9. Sohail top-scored for his side with a gritty 65.

Muhammad Ali and Muhammad Saad, starred for their side, picking three wickets each. Whereas, Waqas Mahmood, Faheem Ashraf and Ahmed Safi Abdullah each dismissed a batter.

In response to Sindh’s 155, Central’s start was not any different, losing first two wickets for just 16 runs. Soon after, the side lost their batter, Ali Zaryab, who could only score 12.

Abid Ali, however, stood firm for his side and remained not-out for his 45 before the stumps.

Abid (45*) and Saad (11*) will resume the proceedings for Central at 78/3 on the second day.

Sohail, Tabish Khan and Mir Hamza each took a wicket for Sindh.

In another match of the ongoing round, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) bowlers fired at each other as 22 wickets fell on the first day.

Batting first, KPK batters struggled to get going and were dismissed one after another at an alarming rate, none of their batter could fightback and the side, eventually, bundled out for just 116 in the first inning.

Taj Wali and kashif Bhatti claimed four wickets each, while Gohar Faiz and Raza Ul Hassan shared one wicket apiece.

In response to KPK’s 116, Balochistan showed even worse batting display, having bowled for a skimpy 100 in their first inning.

Arshad Iqbal starred for KPK, picking up four wickets, while Imran Khan Sr., Sameen Gull Asif Afridi took two wickets each.

Starting with a 16-runs lead, KPK failed again and lost two wickets for just 11 runs in the second inning. Israr Ullah and Sahibzada Farhan, both batters could only score four.

Ashfaq Ahmed remained not-out on 3, and will now resume the innings with Kamran Ghulam for KPK at 17/2 on the second day.

KARACHI: Central Punjab defeated Balochistan, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) beat Southern Punjab in the eighth round of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (QEAT) on Thursday.

In the first match of the on-going eighth round, Central resumed their innings at an overnight score of 69/1, chasing 211, were off to a shaky start as the side lost three wickets after adding just 20 runs on the final day of their fixture against Balochistan.

The side quickly slipped to 81/4, and the momentum appeared to have shifted in Balochistan’s way. However, Muhammad Saad and Ali Shan showed some resistance, recorded a valuable 21-runs partnership before Shan dismissed on 22 off 38 balls.

Saad, then, put on a match winning partnership with Saif Badar, recording an unbeaten 100-partnership to get their side over the line. Both batters scored fifties and remained not out. Saad scored unbeaten 63 off 123 balls including eight boundaries, while Badar smashed unbeaten 55 off 69 balls laced with five boundaries and a six.

For Balochistan, Kashif Bhatti and Akber-Ur-Rehman each picked two wickets, while Gohar Faiz struck out a batter.

Following the victory, Central moved to the fourth position, while Balochistan remained at the bottom.

In the third match of the ongoing round of QEAT, KPK’s Sahibzada Farhan scored century to drive his side to the victory.

Chasing 219, KPK openers failed to provide a solid start, the side, losing first two wickets for just 26 runs. Musadiq scored just nine, while Israr Ullah could only score two. Muhammad Ilyas, was the bowler to dismiss both the batters.

Ilyas’ superb spell pulled his side back into the game, but, Ashfaq Ahmed and Sahibzada Farhan batted sensibly and partnered strongly to help their side clinch the match. The pair added 167 runs into the team’s total before Ashfaq dismissed on 77.

Farhan, smashed magnificent hundred, scoring 112* laced with 19 boundaries and a six. KPK, eventually, beat Southern by 7 wickets.

The victory against Southern, earned KPK third spot on the points table, while Southern remained at second.

KARACHI: Ather Mahmood and Kashif Ali shared 14 wickets to help Northern beat table-toppers Sindh by an innings and 39 runs in the eighth round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (QEAT) here at UBL Sports Complex.

Following on the first innings total of Northern, Sindh were bowled out for 182 runs thanks to Ather who took four wickets, and Kashif who bagged three.

Khurram Manzoor and Ahsan Ali provided good start to Sindh after they were enforced a follow-on. Khurram scored 39 whereas Ahsan made 44 before walking off. Omair Bin Yousuf fought hard and scored 52 runs with the help of three boundaries.

But, it was bowlers’ day at UBL as they managed to get a complete haul of Sindh. Apart from Ather and Kashif, Mohammad Musa and Zaid Khan shared two wickets each. In the first innings, Ather and Kashif bagged as many wickets as the second innings respectively.

In the first match of the on-going eighth round, Central Punjab bowlers put the side on driving seat against Balochistan.

Central, resumed their innings at an overnight score 178/5 on day-three, were off to a shaky start. The side lost their sixth wicket at a combine score of 186.

Soon after, the wickets began to tumble at an alarming rate and the side were bundle out for 262. Zafar Gohar played a gritty knock and showed resistance, the batter remained not out on his individual score of 42. While, rest of their batters were dismissed cheaply.

With 63-run lead, Balochistan batters began their second innings, however, Central’s bowlers dismantled the side’s batting line up, bowling them out for just 162. Bismillah Khan scored 27 off 29 balls including two boundaries and a six, while Gohar Faiz, top-scored with 36 off 43 deliveries laced with five boundaries and two sixes.

Muhammad Ali was the Central’s standout bowler, taking a fifer, while Zafar took two wickets. Waqas Maqsood and Bilawal Iqbal each had one wicket.

Chasing a target of 211-run, Central’s openers provided a decent start to the side. The pair put on a decent 48-run partnership. Imran Dogar was dismissed on 26.

Rizwan Hussain (23*) and Ali Shah (9*) will resume the proceedings for Central at 62/1 on day-four.

In the third match of the ongoing round of QEAT, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) need to chase 219-run target to win the match.

Southern resumed their innings at 40/0 on day-three, were off to a shaky start as the side lost their first wicket without adding much into their overnight score. Soon after, Zeeshan Ashraf was also dismissed, on 19 and the team slipped to 69/2.

However, Umar Siddiq and Salman Ali Agha played sensible knocks and partnered strongly to put the side in commanding position. Salman scored 90 off 131 balls including 14 boundaries, while Zeeshan top-scored with 92 laced with 15 boundaries.

With valuable contributions from down the order, Southern, eventually, were able to put a decent score of 334 on the board.

For KPK, Irfan Ullah Shah bagged four wickets, while Sameen Gull took three wickets. Asif Afridi and Arshad managed to take two wickets and one wicket respectively.

KPK openers will resume the run chase on day four.

KARACHI: Sarmad Bhatti and Umer Amin recorded a solid 140-run partnership for Northern, helping the side post 319 in the first inning of their ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (QEAT) fixture at UBL Sports Complex here on Tuesday.

Northern resumed their innings at 136/2, but Sarmad and Amin were unable to extend their partnership, adding only 22 runs on the second day. Mir Hamza castled Amin on the 78. Faizan Riaz was sent back to the pavilion on a duck shortly after, as the side quickly slumped to 158/4.

The side began to lose wickets at an alarming rate, however, Sarmad stood firm at one end. The left-handed batter went onto score a brilliant hundred, top-scored for his side with 145, laced with 16 boundaries and two sixes.

With no significant contribution from the rest of the batters. Northern were eventually bowled out for 319, taking a massive 221-run lead against Sindh.

For Sindh, Tabish Khan bagged fifer, while Sohail Khan took three wickets. Hamza and Muhammad Asghar shared a wicket apiece.

Trailing by 221-run, Sindh openers provided a solid start to the side, with 74-run opening partnership. The pair seemed in top-notch before Ahsan Ali was sent back to the pavilion on 44.

Khurram Manzoor (33*) and Omair Bin Yousuf (19*) will resume the inning for Sindh at 105/1 on day-three.

In the first match of on-going eighth round, Balochistan’s all-rounder, Kashif Bhatti put the side in commanding position against Central Punjab on day-two.

Balochistan resumed their innings at 283-5, the side could not add much to their overnight score and were eventually bowled out for 325. Kashif scored a brilliant half-century, scoring 53 off 82 deliveries, laced with seven boundaries, and a six.

Zafar Gohar bagged a five-wicket haul. Bilawal Iqbal and Hussain Talat each took two wickets, while Imran Dogar dismissed a batter.

Central got off to a solid start in response to Balochistan’s 325, with the openers putting together a solid 78-run partnership. Before Imran was dismissed on 23.

However, Rizwan Hussain and Ali Zaryab played sensible knocks for the side. Ali scored 48 laced with eight boundaries, while Rizwan smashed a brilliant 50 including seven boundaries.

Soon after, the side began to lose wickets, and in the end, were slipped to 178/5 at stumps on day-two.

Kashif bagged four wickets, while Raza-Ul-Hassan dismissed a batter.

Saif Badar (37*) and Ali Shah (6*) will resume the proceedings for Central at 178/5 on day-three.

In the third match of the ongoing round of QEAT, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resumed at their overnight score of 45/2. The side were off to a shaky start as their third wicket fell at a combine score of 46.

However, important contributions from the side’s middle-order took them to a decent total of 281 in first innings. Sahibzada Farhan scored 60 off 127 balls laced with six boundaries and a six. Arshad Iqbal smashed 62 off 102 deliveries, including nine boundaries.

Muhammad Ilyas took four wickets for Southern. Whereas, Amir Yamin and Salman Ali Agha each bagged three wickets.

Trailing by 115-run, Southern openers provided a decent start to the side as the pair put on an unbeaten 40-run partnership at the stumps on day-two.

Tayyab Tahir (11*) and Umar Siddiq (29*) will resume the proceedings for Southern on day-three.

KARACHI: Shan Masood and Imran Butt provided an eye-catching start for Balochistan, helping the side score 283/5 on the first day of their ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (QEAT) fixture at NBP Sports Complex here on Monday.

In the first match of the on-going eighth-round match of QEAT, Central Punjab’s skipper – Muhammad Saad invited Balochistan to bat first.

In response, Balochistan openers Shan and Imran provided a solid start to the side as the pair put on a brilliant 151-run stand. Shan went onto smash another century in the ongoing season, he top-scored with magnificent 102 laced with 13 boundaries and three maximums.

Imran, was also handy at the other end, as the right-handed batter scored a valiant 65 that saw the ball cross the boundary eight times.

As soon as the openers were sent back to the pavilion, and the team began to lose wickets at a rapid pace. Ayaz Tasawar (36*) and Kashif Bhatti (30*) anchored the innings with gritty knocks. Balochistan will now resume their innings on day two with a score of 283/5.

Zafar Gohar and Hussain Talat each bagged two wickets for the Central, while Bilawal Iqbal struck out a batter.

In another eighth-round match, table-toppers Sindh declared the innings for a paltry 98/9 in the first innings of their ongoing match against Northern. Mir Hamza scored 18* followed by highest run-scorer of the side, Omair Bin Yousuf with 33 runs.

Northern’s Ather Mahmood bagged four wickets, while Kashif Ali took two. Muhammad Musa fanned a batter.

Northern openers failed to provide a solid start to the team as well, losing their first two wickets for just 18 runs.

Sarmad Bhatti, a left-handed batter, and his skipper, Umer Amin, put on a valiant century stand to keep the side out of trouble. Northern’s innings will resume on day two with Sarmad (53*) and Umer (69*) at 136/2.

For Sindh, Sohail Khan bagged two wickets on the first day’s play.

In the third match of the ongoing round of QEAT, Khyber Pakhtunkwa bowling attack trapped Southern Punjab’s batters completely. They were bundled out for a skimpy 166 runs in the first innings. Yousuf Babar scored 28 followed by highest run-scorer of the side, Muhammad Imran with 64 runs.

For KPK, right-arm pacer Arshad Iqbal bagged four wickets, while Asif Afridi and Irfan Ullah Shah each claimed two wickets. Sameen Gull, on the other hand, struck out a batter.

KPK openers failed to get their team off to a good start in response to Southern’s 166, and the side lost their first two wickets with only 45 runs on the board.

Ashfaq Ahmed (15*) and night-watchman Arshad (0*) will resume the proceedings for KPK at 45/2 on the second-day.

KARACHI: Northern bowlers annihilated Central Punjab’s batting line-up on day 3 of their ongoing fixture in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (QEAT) at NBP Sports Complex here on Thursday.

Northern’s batters, Usman Qadir and Waqas Maqsood, struggled after resuming at an overnight score of 223/8, and Waqas was soon sent back to the pavilion on 19 after the pair added only 20 runs in the game’s play. Soon after, Mohammad Ali was also walking back towards the pavilion as the 11th batter was dismissed for a duck. Usman remained undefeated with a hard-fought 37. Central were eventually bowled out for 257.

In the first innings, Northern’s stand-out bowler was Haris, who struck out six batters. Mubasir Khan claimed two wickets. Athar Mehmood and Raza Hasan, on the other hand, each struck out a batter.

Northern’s captain, Umar Amin, enforced the follow-on and put Central’s batters to bat again. The side, on the other hand, got off to a good start in the second innings, with openers Imran Dogar and Rizwan Hussain providing a solid start and helping their team set a fifty-plus partnership. The batters were looking solid until Rizwan was trapped on 32 by Athar.

Dogar and his skipper Ali Zaryab batted valiantly, scoring half-centuries and putting Northern on the back foot. Before Dogar was dismissed on 55 by Mubasir, the pair were looking to shift momentum their way. Zaryab tried to resist and played a gritty knock, but the wickets at the other end kept falling at an alarming rate, and he was soon dismissed on 71.

In the end, the team lost their last eight wickets for 74 runs and finished at 197/9 at stumps. On day 4, Waqas and Ali will resume the proceedings for Central. Northern are just one wicket away from their first victory in the ongoing season of QEAT.

Mubasir was the stand-out bowler for the Northern as the bowler bagged a five-wicket haul. Haris claimed three wickets. Whereas, Athar struck out a batter.

Table-toppers Sindh, on the other hand, are back in the game after being bowled out for 145 in the first innings against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the second match of the ongoing round of QEAT. Sindh batters fought back thanks to Khurram Manzoor’s magnificent century and solid partnership with skipper Asad Shafiq. Asif Afridi broke the pair at 195. Khurram led the way with 107 runs, while Asad scored an outstanding 83.

Saad Khan followed the footsteps of his seniors, scoring a brilliant 89 and keeping the scoreboard ticking as no other batter contributed significantly to the team’s total. Sindh were eventually dismissed for 377, and KPK was given a target of 257.

Irfanullah Shah was the standout bowler for the KPK, taking four wickets. Asif, too, was clinical, dismissing three wickets. Arshad Iqbal took two wickets. Iftikhar Ahmed, on the other hand, struck out a batter.

The KPK’s innings was started by Sahibzada Farhan and Musadiq Ahmed, who faced only 21 deliveries before stumps were called. On the final day, Farhan (9*) and Musadiq (4*) will resume the chase for KPK.

In another seventh-round match, Balochistan’s batters have turned the tables against Southern Punjab. Balochistan batters put on a show, scoring 606 runs to Southern’s 483. Shan Masood, Ayaz Tasawar, and Bismillah Khan all scored hundreds. Kashif Bhatti and Khurram Shahzad, on the other hand, played brilliantly and both scored half-centuries. Ayaz, however, top-scored with a magnificent 149.

Southern bowlers had a bad day at the office, as they conceded a lot of runs. However, Hasan Khan was their pick of the bowlers as he claimed three wickets. Both Ali Usman and Aamer Yamin took two wickets. Zia-ul-Haq, Mohammad Imran, and Adeel Ur Rehman, on the other hand, each struck out a batter.

Tayyab Tahir and Umar Siddiq opened the Southern innings, facing only 10 overs before stumps were called. Tayyab (18*) and Umar (17*) will resume the proceedings for Southern on the final day. The team is currently 86 runs behind.

KARACHI: Haider Ali provided an eye-catching start to Northern after pacer Haris Rauf helped the side restrict Central Punjab for 223/8 on the second day of their ongoing fixture in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (QEAT) at NBP Sports Complex here on Wednesday.

Central’s batters struggled in response to Northern’s 445, as the team lost eight wickets for 223 at stumps. Their openers were also unable to get the team off to a good start, with Rizwan Hussain being dismissed on 7 by Haris Rauf. Imran Dogar and Ali Zaryab began to rebuild the innings but fell short when Dogar was dismissed on 43. When the score was 113, Zaryab (37) was also sent back to the pavilion.

Hussain Talat and Muhammad Saad looked solid as the pair added 70 runs to the team total before Saad was dismissed on 38 by Haris. Talat (51) was also on his way back to the pavilion after reaching a half-century. The rest of the batters were unable to contribute significantly to the team’s score. On day three, Usman Qadir and Waqas Maqsood will take over the proceedings.

Northern’s pick of the bowlers was Haris, who dismissed six batters before stumps. Ather Mehmood and Mubasir Khan each struck out a batter.

Batting first, Northern batters struggled to get off to a good start in their first innings, losing opener Zaid Alam (12) for 23 after he was dismissed by Mohammad Ali. However, Mohammad Huraira and his skipper, Umar Amin, put up a solid stand and kept their team out of trouble, as both batters scored half-centuries. Before being ejected, the duo contributed 96 runs to the team’s total. Northern lost both batters with the score at 119. Huraira scored 54, whereas, Amin scored 50.

The momentum appeared to have shifted Central’s way, but Haider’s masterful innings changed the game’s parameters. He scored a magnificent first-class double-century to put his side in command, scoring 206 off just 294 deliveries, including 27 boundaries and four sixes. Faizan Riaz, who batted alongside Haider, also delivered a solid performance, scoring 67 runs off 233 deliveries. The remaining batters were unable to make a significant contribution, and the team was bowled out for a massive total of 445 in the first innings.

Central’s Ali was the standout bowler as he bagged three wickets. Usman Qadir and Ahmed Safi Abdullah both struck out two batters.

At the toss in one of the matches of the seventh round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2021-22, Central’s captain – Ali Zaryab – won the toss and put Northern into bat.

Northern are currently in fourth place on the points table. Central, on the other hand, is in second place.

On the other hand, table-toppers Sindh, are in trouble against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the second match of the ongoing round of QEAT, having been bowled out for 145 in the first innings. Arshad Iqbal of KPK bagged a five-fer. In response, KPK were bowled out for 265, taking a 120-runs lead. Musaddiq Ahmed was their standout batter, scoring 75 runs. Asif Afridi (50) also contributed with a half-century. Sohail Khan finished with a five-wicket haul. Mir Hamza, on the other hand, took three wickets for Sindh.

Sindh are looking comfortable in the second innings after starting poorly and losing two wickets, as their skipper Asad Shafiq and Khurram Manzoor stood up, added 126 runs to the team’s total after the side lost two wickets for just 11. Arshad and Irfanullah Shah each struck out a batter. Asad (50*) and Khurram (59*) will resume the proceedings for Sindh at 137/2 on day-3.

In another seventh-round match, Balochistan is trailing Southern Punjab by 207 runs to 483. Southern, batting first, struggled to get off to a good start, as the team’s openers were lost cheaply. This did not bother them much, as Salman Ali Agha (135), Zeeshan Ashraf (102) and Yousuf Babar (119*) all hit centuries to put their team in command. Salman, on the other hand, remained his team’s top scorer.

Khurram Shahzad and Akif Javed both had three wickets to their names. Kashif Bhatti claimed two wickets. Gohar Faiz and Najeebullah Achakzai, on the other hand, each dismissed a batter.

Balochistan responded poorly, losing two quick wickets for 28 runs, including Imran Butt and Umar Akmal, who returned to professional cricket after a 21-month absence. Shan Masood, on the other hand, played a gritty knock and scored a brilliant century before being dismissed by Ali Usman on 105. Ayaz Tasawar (58*) and Bismillah Khan (57) also contributed significantly to their team’s resurgence. On day three, the two half-centurions will resume for Balochistan at 276/4.

Ali and Amir Yamin each struck out two batters.

KARACHI: Abrar Ahmed’s maiden ten-wicket haul and Ahsan Ali’s century steered Sindh to victory against Balochistan.

In the 16th match of the ongoing edition of Quaid-e-Azam trophy, Sindh defeated Balochistan by an innings 188 runs. At the toss, Sindh’s captain Asad Shafiq won the toss and put Balochistan into bat.

Batting first, balochistan batters were helpless against Sindh’s bowlers as they lost back to back wickets at a constant pace and were only managed to score 96 runs in first innings.

Skipper Imran Butt was their top-scorer in the first innings as he managed to score 33 runs. Rest of their batters could not do much to keep the scoreboard moving.

Sindh’s mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed turned out to be the standout bowler as he bagged a five-for. Sohail Khan took four wickets and Mir Hamza dismissed one batter.

Sindh in reply, were off to a solid start as their both openers played a superb knock, Ahsan Ali scored a brilliant century and missed out on a double-century before he got out on 194, Khurram Manzoor missed out on the century as he was dismissed on 94. Rest of the batters also made contributions and Sindh finished on 442.

Gohar Faiz took four wickets, Khurram Shehzad dismissed three batters while Kashif Bhatti, Amad Butt and Akif Javed took one wicket each.

Balochistan batters again found themselves struggling as they could not score big and the team bowled out for 158 in the second innings. Ayaz Tasawar was their top-scorer as the batter scored 45.

Abrar Ahmed again starred and bagged his maiden ten-wicket haul as he took six wickets in the second innings. Sohail Khan took three wickets and Mir Hamza took one wicket.

On the other hand, Southern Punjab is trailing by 128 runs in the second innings in the 17th match of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy against Central Punjab. Whereas, in the 18th match, Northern lead by 206 runs in their second innings against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
