Richard Illingworth named ICC Umpire of the Year 2022

DUBAI: England-hailed Richard Illingworth bagged David Shepherd Trophy for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Umpire of the Year 2022, the cricket governing body announced on Thursday.

Illingworth, who officiated 24 international matches in 2022 was adjudged the best umpire for the consistency of his decisions and his communications and relations with teams and their captains.

“I am very honoured to receive the ICC Umpire of the Year award. Many people, coaches, colleagues and management have contributed to my development over my career as a player and umpire. Their input has been substantial and invaluable and I’m forever grateful to them,” said Illingworth in a statement released by the ICC.

“I continue to be passionate about cricket and after many years in the professional game, I will continue to learn and develop. I’d also like to thank my family who have given me such great support over the years to enable me to go out and enjoy my umpiring around the world,” added Illingworth.

It is pertinent to mention that Illingworth won the Umpire of the Year award for the second time after first winning it in 2019.

Aleem Dar, Richard Illingworth to stand on-ground in PSL 7 final

LAHORE: ICC Elite Panelists Aleem Dar and Richard Illingworth will be officiating on the ground during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 7 final. 

Dar and Illingworth will be accompanied by Michael Gough (3rd Umpire) and Ahsan Raza (4rth Umpire) on the final day. Sri Lanka’s Roshan Mahanama will lead the playing control room.

Defending champions Multan Sultans will take on Lahore Qalandars in the final contest on Sunday.

Dar, Illingworth, Gough included in match officials for PSL 7 playoffs

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Aleem Dar, Richard Illingworth, Michael Gough among the match officials for Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 7’s playoffs. 

Multan Sultans will meet Lahore Qalandars in PSL 7 Qualifier on March 23. Roshan Mahanama will be the referee of this contest. Aleem Dar and Richard Illingworth will be the on-field umpires, while Michael Gough and Ahsan Raza will be the third and fourth umpires, respectively.

ICC Chief Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle will lead the playing control team for the 24 February Eliminator 1 between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United. Aleem Dar and Michael Gough will be the on-field umpires, while Richard Illingworth and Rashid Riaz will be the third and fourth umpires, respectively.

25 February Eliminator 2 featuring the loser of 23 February match and the winner of 24 February fixture will be refereed by Roshan Mahanama. Richard Illingworth and Michael Gough will perform on-field umpire responsibilities, while Aleem Dar and Asif Yaqoob will be the third and fourth umpires, respectively.

Umpire and match referee appointments for the 27 February final will be announced after the playoffs.
