Bangladesh defeat Pakistan 2-0 to reach SAFF U17 Championship final

COLOMBO: In a commendable display, Bangladesh outplayed Pakistan 2-0 to march into the SAFF U17 Championship final here at the Race Course Ground on Thursday.

Bangladesh took control of the match in the opening four minutes, with Nazmul Huda and Mohammad Rahman piercing the nets respectively to double the lead.

Pakistan was unable to make a comeback as Bangladesh remained dominant throughout the game.

Despite their efforts to regain momentum, Pakistan were unable to turn the game around. Notably, Bangladesh had also beaten Pakistan in the final of the 2018 edition.

The second semi-final will be played between India and Nepal.

Pakistan started strong in the championship with dominant victories against the Maldives and Bhutan. However, they faced a defeat at the hands of India 3-2 in a thrilling encounter.

India took a lead in the 31st minute of the game when Dallalmoun Gangte scored, courtesy of Dannny Singh Cutback.

However, Pakistan made a strong comeback with an equaliser just two minutes before half-time.

Yet, India emerged victorious in the last phase of the game and scored decisive goals to secure an emphatic victory.

Dominant Pakistan outplay Maldives 5-2 in SAFF U17 Championship

COLOMBO: Pakistan continued their strong performance in the SAFF U17 Championship, securing a decisive 5-2 win against the Maldives on Friday.

The Green Shirts put on an excellent display, with Mansoor Ahmed starring for Pakistan. The youngster kept his team on top, piercing the nets three times in the match in the 12th, 32nd, and 45th minutes of the game.

At the halfway mark of the game, Pakistan were leading with a dominant position of 4-1 and eventually secured a comprehensive victory.

Pakistan also secured a dominant 4-0 victory in its opening game against Bhutan. Muhammad Abdullah remained the standout performer, scoring a hat-trick and playing a vital role in the team’s victory.

Pakistan netted the opening goal in the 15th minute of the game, courtesy of Abdullah’s brilliance. He struck again in the 25th to double Pakistan’s lead.

Hamza Yasir extended Pakistan’s advantage with a goal in the 67th minute, while Muhammad Abdullah completed his hat-trick just three minutes later in the 70th minute.

The Men in Green, who are placed in Group B, will now face arch-rivals India on September 22.

Abdullah’s hat-trick seals Pakistan’s win over Bhutan in SAFF U17 Championship

COLOMBO: Muhammad Abdullah starred as Pakistan kicked off their campaign in an emphatic fashion with a dominant win over Bhutan in the opening match of the U-17 SAFF Championship.

Muhammad Abdullah starred with a brilliant hat-trick in Green Shirts’ comprehensive 4-0 victory.

Pakistan netted the opening goal in the 15th minute of the game, courtesy of Abdullah’s brilliance. He struck again in the 25th to double Pakistan’s lead.

At the halfway stage of the game, Pakistan remained dominant and did not allow Bhutan to score a goal.

Pakistan will now face Maldives in their second group match on 19 September 2025 at 2:30 PM Pakistan Standard Time. They will play Bhutan on September 19 before concluding the group stage with the match against arch-rivals India.

Pakistan is placed in Group ‘B’ alongside India, Maldives, and Bhutan.

India set to face Pakistan as SAFF U17 Championship schedule unveiled

SRI LANKA: The schedule for the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) U17 Football Championship has been announced, with arch-rivals India and Pakistan set to face off against each other on 22 September 2025 at the Racecourse International Stadium in Colombo.

The tournament features seven teams, divided into two groups: Group A and Group B.

Group A includes Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, whereas Group B features India, Pakistan, the Maldives, and Bhutan.

Pakistan’s U-17 football team will start their campaign against Bhutan on 16 September before facing off Maldives on 19 September.

The tournament’s high-stakes encounter between India and Pakistan will take place on 22 September.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-final, which will be held on 25 September, making every match in the event a crucial encounter.

The SAFF Under-17 Championship final will be played on 27 September.

Last year, India retained the title after defeating Bangladesh 2-0 in the final, which was played at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan.

On the other hand, Pakistan advanced to the semi-finals of the event after defeating Sri Lanka 5-1 in their final group stage match.

However, Bangladesh ended the Green Shirts’ journey in the tournament after defeating them in the semi-final after a thrilling penalty shootout.

Pakistan storm into SAFF U17 Championship semi-final

THIMPHU: Subhan Kareem’s brace helped Pakistan to a crushing 5-1 victory over Sri Lanka in their final group-stage fixture and qualify for the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) U17 Championship semi-final.

The Green Shirts, who had four points in two matches, needed at least a draw in their last group match against Sri Lanka, who were at the bottom of the standings.

Pakistan U17 team, however, had their sights set on the victory as they took the lead just 20 minutes into the game, courtesy of in-form Subhan Kareem.

Mohammad Talha doubled their advantage just 10 minutes later while Subhan struck again at the 36-minute mark, lifting Pakistan to a 3-0 advantage over Sri Lanka.

Pakistan’s three-goal lead persisted till the half-time.

The first-half thrashing took a toll on Sri Lanka’s defence so much that they scored an Own Goal to further increase Pakistan’s command on the game.

Abdul Ghani then added further to the misery of Sri Lanka by finding the back of the net in the 56th minute, extending the Green Shirts’ lead to 5-0.

Sri Lanka, who were struggling for the majority of the game, had a moment to cherish when they scored their lone goal in the 76th minute.

Pakistan’s opponent for the SAFF U17 Championship semi-final will be announced in due course.

Bhutan come from behind to hold Pakistan for a draw in SAFF U17 Championship

THIMPHU: Hosts Bhutan scored two stoppage time goals to hold Pakistan for a 3-3 draw in the sixth match of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) U17 Championship here at Changlimithang Stadium on Monday.

The home side took the lead early as Thinley Yezer found the back of the net with just 25 minutes into the game.

But Pakistan hit back 13 minutes later and levelled the score, courtesy of a well-judged shot by Khobaib Khan.

The Green Shirts doubled their advantage in the 47th minute on the back of Subhan Karim’s individual brilliance.

Pakistan then took command of the game in the 67th minute as Sharaf Khan, with a deft finish, extended their lead by two goals but Bhutan, playing on their home soil, was not to be overwritten.

The home side showcased exceptional resilience and staged a dramatic comeback by scoring two quick goals in the stoppage time and held Pakistan for a stalemate in a goals-galore SAFF U17 Championship clash.

Tandin Phuntsho sparked Bhutan’s comeback with a brilliant goal four minutes into the extra time and just two minutes later the home side was awarded a penalty, which was successfully converted by Sonam Dhurji.

In their SAFF U17 Championship campaign opener, Pakistan edged past Nepal 1-0 with Muhammad Talha scoring the winner in the 81st minute.

Despite a 3-3 draw against Bhutan, Pakistan are in contention to qualify for the semi-finals. They next face Sri Lanka on September 25 at the same venue.

Pakistan and Bhutan lead the Group B standings with four points each, followed by Nepal with three points while Sri Lanka are at the bottom with zero points.
