KARACHI: Former Indian international cricketer Harbhajan Singh praised the Pakistan team for outplaying India by 10 wickets to win their first-ever match against arch-rivals in T20 World Cup. 

Speaking to Indian tv, Harbhajan said he had never seen such a performance by the Pakistan team against India.

“I have never seen a Pakistan team playing like they did yesterday. They were phenomenal and outclassed India in all three departments,” the Indian cricketer-cum-analyst said.

Harbhajan applauded Pakistani openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan for making it a one-sided contest for their team.

“Babar and Rizwan were on the mark. They batted brilliantly and played proper cricketing shots throughout. Especially Babar, he is exceptional and leading Pakistan from the front,” he maintained.

Meanwhile, Harbhajan suggested some changes to the Indian team for upcoming matches. “I think they should bring in Ishan Kishan at the top-order, pushing KL Rahul at number 4. Bhuvneshwar Kumar should be out,” he was quoted saying.

It must be noted here that Babar alongside his opening partner Mohammad Rizwan played an anchor role in Pakistan’s 10-wicket victory over their arch-rivals India. Babar scored 68 runs whereas Rizwan made 78 in a convincing victory.

KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s chairman Ramiz Raja congratulated the national team for winning T20 World Cup contest against arch-rivals India by 10 wickets. 

While joining the nationwide celebration, the PCB chairman took to Twitter to back up the national players for clinching their first-ever T20 World Cup match against India.

“Alhamdolillah. It’s the first one, the most magnificent one but remember journey has just begun.. such a proud moment for all Pakistanis and thank you boys for providing us this moment to cherish,” he wrote.

Cricketers wish Pakistan team ‘Best of Luck’ for India match

KARACHI: Pakistani cricket stars are looking forward to the national team’s victory in the mega T20 World Cup. 

In a video shared by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), former Test cricketer Mohammad Yousuf said Pakistan is an experienced side and can win the T20 World Cup easily.

“I believe Pakistan team has the potential to win the T20 World Cup. They just need to plan things strongly and execute them in the matches,” he said.

Fawad Alam, who was a member of the T20 World Cup 2009’s champion Pakistan team, said the national team wants the support of their people.

“Stand behind your team. They want your support and they will show you their potential by winning the mega event,” he asked Pakistanis.

“Be calm and handle the pressure well to win your match against India which is very important. Best of Luck,” Fawad advised national players.

Pakistan women’s team captain Javeria Khan and all-rounder Aliya Riaz is also routing for Pakistan’s win against the arch-rivals.

“Pakistan team has the potential to win against India and also to bring T20 World Cup’s trophy at home. Best of luck to them,” the female cricketers said in the video.

First-class cricketers Iftikhar Ahmed and Usman Shinwari also sent best wishes to the national team for the extravaganza.

Asalanka, Rajapaksa lead Sri Lanka to winning start in T20 World Cup

SHARJAH: Charith Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa snatched the match from the jaws of Bangladesh and led Sri Lanka to a winning start in T20 World Cup 2021. 

Earlier, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Naim scored 73 runs together as Bangladesh posted 171-4 in 20 overs against Sri Lanka in their first match of T20 World Cup.

Bangladeshi openers Mohammad Naim and Liton Das started off well for their team after they were asked to bat first in the third match of the mega event. They scored 40 runs together before Lahiru Kumara struck Das in the sixth over.

Shakib Al Hasan lost his wicket to Chamika Karunaratne after scoring 10 and Bangladesh suffered at 56-2.

Thereon, Mushfiqur and Rahim took the responsibility and supported their team in setting the target. Mushfiqur remained not out for 57 off 37 laced with five boundaries and two sixes whereas Naim contributed 62 runs smoked with six boundaries.

For Sri Lanka, Karunaratne, Kumara and Binura Fernando shared a wicket apiece.

England beat West Indies by six wickets in second T20 World Cup match

DUBAI: England beat West Indies by six wickets in the second game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Eoin Morgan-led side successfully chased the 56-run target in overs with the loss of four wickets.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler was the top scorer as he remained not out for 22-ball 24 with three fours to his name. Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow made 11 and nine runs respectively.

Akeal Hosein took two wickets and conceded 24 runs in his allotted four overs while Ravi Rampaul got a wicket as well.

England had won the toss and invited West Indies to bat.

The defending champions put on a dismal batting performance and were dismissed for just 55 runs in 14.2 overs. Chris Gayle was the only batsman to score in double figures with 13 from nine deliveries with three boundaries to his name.

Spinner Adil Rashid was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets. Moeen Ali and Tymal Mills took two wickets each.

‘PAKvsIND is just a regular match for me, I don’t take pressure’ Virat Kohli

DUBAI: Indian skipper Virat Kohli said the match against Pakistan is just a regular match for him and he doesn’t take the pressure of it. 

Speaking to a pre-match virtual press conference, Kohli said Pakistan is a good side and can give them tough time but their focus is on the game.

“Our match against Pakistan is just a regular match for me and I don’t take its pressure,” Kohli said.

“We will go out there and give our best to win the match just like any other game. I hope a good contest will be watched on Sunday,” he added.

Kohli refused to answer on captaincy question and said he doesn’t care about outside gossips and media reports. “I am not here to talk on captaincy. My focus is on the game and I don’t care what people are talking and writing,” he said.
