Sahibzada closes gap with top-ranked Abhishek in T20I rankings

DUBAI: Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan has surged to second place in the latest ICC T20I batters’ rankings following a historic run at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, narrowing the gap on India’s Abhishek Sharma.

Farhan finished the tournament with a staggering 383 runs at an average of 76.60, the most by any batter in a single edition of the T20 World Cup.

In doing so, he also became the only player to score two centuries in one T20 World Cup campaign.

The prolific right-hander climbed one position to second in the rankings with 848 rating points.

Despite enduring a relatively quiet tournament, Abhishek Sharma continues to hold the top spot, while England’s Phil Salt has slipped to third.

While Farhan enjoyed a meteoric rise, several other Pakistani batters witnessed a dip. Saim Ayub and Babar Azam each dropped one place to 35th and 37th, respectively. T20I captain Salman Ali Agha fell three spots to 41st.

However, Fakhar Zaman made a notable jump, climbing 17 places to 71st after his blistering 84-run knock against Sri Lanka in the final Super Eights fixture. He now sits on 481 rating points.

Sadia Iqbal reclaims number one spot in ICC T20I bowling rankings

Sadia Iqbal, Pakistan’s women’s left-arm spinner, reclaimed the number one spot in the ICC Women’s Twenty-20 International (T20I) Bowler Rankings on Tuesday.

Sadia, 29, played a vital role in the Green Shirts’ unbeaten run in the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers in Lahore.

She was named in the team of the tournament for her nine wickets at an impressive average of 16.

Sadia Iqbal de-thrown England spinner Sophie Ecclestone from the top position, who was benched in her side’s recent T20I series at home against the West Indies.

“[Sadia] was one of the leading performers at last year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and rises one spot on the rankings for T20I bowlers to claim top billing”, the ICC statement said.

The spin-bowler expressed joy over her rise, crediting Sana Mir for improving her bowling.

“I’ve become the number one ranked T20I bowler. I’d like to thank everyone who is celebrating this achievement. I’ve received a lot of calls and messages,” she said in a video shared by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

“She (Sana Mir) obviously had a lot of experience in women’s cricket. The way she’s served Pakistan cricket, she has been the number one bowler during her days,” Sadia Iqbal said.

She concluded, “I used to keep talking to her while we were on tour regarding bowling different variations. Even when we were at the World Cup, I had a really good conversation about bowling with her. She helped me a lot.”

In batting, West Indies’ Hayley Matthews made strides after her dominant performances in the England series.

It is worth mentioning that last year, Sadia Iqbal became the first Pakistani woman bowler to reach the top spot in the ICC rankings.

She was crowned the number one bowler after her dominant performance in the Asia Cup, where Green Shirts outplayed the tournament’s champions, Sri Lanka, in the opening match.

Babar, Rizwan remain firm in ICC Men’s T20I Rankings

DUBAI: Pakistan’s white-ball captain Babar Azam and wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan held on to their spots in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20I Batting Rankings.

Pakistan’s star duo of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan clung on to the third and fourth spot respectively while India’s Suryakumar Yadav continued his stay at the rankings summit.

England’s hard-hitting opener Phil Salt remained second in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings.

West Indies’ opener Nicholas Pooran, who played a swashbuckling 98-run knock against Afghanistan, rose to the 11th rank while Australia’s opener Travis Head jumped five places to fifth.

However, in a most notable change, Australia’s Marcus Stoinis replaced Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi as the top-ranked all-rounder in T20Is at the back of his all-round exploits in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

“Mohammad Nabi’s stay at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I All-rounder Rankings has been short, with some stunning performances boosting Australia’s Marcus Stoinis to the summit,” stated ICC in a press release.

“The world’s new top-ranked all-rounder took six wickets and made three impressive contributions with the bat as Australia cruised through to the Super Eight stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with a perfect record.

“His 2/9 helped his side to a hammering of Namibia, but he saved his most important contribution until last in the group stage, hitting an inspired 59 from 29 balls to steer Australia to a win over Scotland that looked a long way off when he came to the crease at 60/3 in the ninth over.

“Wanindu Hasarang and Shakib Al Hasan make up the top three, with Nabi slipping down the rankings but still close behind in fourth.”

Haris Rauf overtakes Shadab to close in on top ten T20I bowlers

DUBAI: Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf went past teammate Shadab Khan on the ICC T20I bowlers’ rankings and moved within a striking distance of entering into the top ten list after his impressive performance in the ongoing PAK vs NZ T20I series.

Haris, who picked up ten wickets in his last three games, climbed five places to 11th overall on the T20I bowlers’ chart after the latest update of the ICC Players’ rankings on Wednesday.

The right-arm quick bagged four-wicket hauls twice in two days, playing impactful roles in Pakistan’s wins in the first two matches of the five-game series against New Zealand. The Blackcaps, however, bounced back to win the third T20I in which Haris took two wickets.

“The Pakistan quick was just ahead of Shaheen Afridi last week and behind Shadab Khan, who was 12th in the T20I bowling rankings. Ten wickets spread across the first three T20Is has seen Rauf move up five places in the rankings to occupy the 11th spot.” said ICC statement.

“He also achieved career-high ratings of 657 points in the process and could potentially enter the top 10 by the end of the five-match series.”

Meanwhile, left-arm pacer Shaheen(624) has also jumped two spots to occupy 15th place on the rankings.

It may be noted here that Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and his compatriot Fazalhaq Farooqi hold first and second positions respectively, on the T20I bowlers’ list.

However, on the T20I batting rankings, Suryakumar Yadav, Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam retain the top three spots in respective orders.
