WATCH: Indian team arrives in Dubai for Champions Trophy 2025

The Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, has arrived in Dubai for the highly-anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025, starting next week in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The ninth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will kick off on 19 February, with host and defending champions Pakistan taking on New Zealand in the curtain-raiser in Karachi’s National Bank Stadium.

The eight-team tournament will consist of 15 matches over 19 days and will take place in Pakistan and Dubai.

In Pakistan, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi will be the three venues to host Champions Trophy 2025 matches. Each Pakistan venue will feature three group games apiece, with Lahore hosting the second semi-final.

Lahore will also host the final on 9 March unless India qualifies, in which case it will be played in Dubai.

Both the semi-finals and the final will have reserve days. The three group matches will involve India, and the first semi-final will be played in Dubai.

In a video posted to social media with the phrase “Touchdown Dubai,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) showed Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and other team members getting off their tour van and checking into their hotel.

It is pertinent to mention that Team India is considered a strong contender for the trophy title. However, they have suffered a huge blow ahead of the Champions Trophy as their key fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has been ruled out of the mega event due to injury.

India’s cricket team is grouped with its arch-rivals Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh.

The Men in Blue will start their campaign against Bangladesh on 20 February in Dubai, while the highly anticipated match between Pakistan and India will take place on 23 February.

India announce squads for T20I and ODI series against England

NEW DELHI: India have announced squads for the three-match T20I and ODI series against England with Rohit Sharma named as captain of the Indian side after being ruled out of the rescheduled Edgbaston Test due to Covid-19.

Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Rishabh Pant will be rested for the first T20I on July 7 at Southampton, just two days after the conclusion of the Test.

Indian skipper in the recently concluded two-match T20I series against Ireland, Hardik Pandya, made a return to the ODI squad after missing out last ODI series against West Indies while left-handed opener Shikhar Dhawan also managed to find a spot in the ODI squad.

Meanwhile, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has received his maiden ODI call-up.

India are set to lock horns against the hosts England in three-match T20I series set to commence on July 7, followed by three ODIs on July 12, 14, and 17.

Rohit tests Covid positive ahead of final Test against England on July 1

LEICESTER: Team India faced a major setback on Sunday as the skipper Rohit Sharma tested positive for Covid on the third day of the ongoing warm-up match against Leicester and went into isolation ahead of rescheduled Test against England on July 1.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced on its official Twitter handle that Indian captain Rohit has tested positive after he underwent the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on Saturday. He is currently undergoing isolation and treatment by the BCCI medical team.

“UPDATE – #TeamIndia Captain Mr. Rohit Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19 following a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday. He is currently in isolation at the team hotel and is under the care of the BCCI Medical Team,” BCCI tweeted.

Indian skipper didn’t come out to bat on the third day of the warm-up game against Leicestershire, meanwhile, his participation in the rescheduled final Test against England in Edgbaston on July 1, might be under clouds.

Rohit is currently the highest scorer for India in the series, which ended abruptly last year, scoring 368 runs in four matches with an impressive average of 52.27.

It is worth mentioning here that India is currently leading the five-match Test series against England 2-1. The touring side will also play three T20I matches and as many ODIs against the hosts during the tour.
