Babar Azam continues to lead ICC ODI Batting Rankings

DUBAI: Pakistan captain Babar Azam managed to hold on to his number-one position in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s ODI Batting Rankings.

Babar, who scored an anchoring half-century against arch-rivals India on Saturday, got the reward for his performance as he kept India’s batting prodigy Shubman Gill at bay.

The right-handed Indian batter is ranked second with 818 rating points, in touching distance with Babar Azam, who occupies the top position with 836 points.

Meanwhile, Pakistan opening batters Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq, who were recently among the Top 10 batters, are now ranked 13th and 10th respectively.

In-form South African opener Quinton de Kock, who scored back-to-back centuries in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 pipped his teammate Rassie van der Dussen to claim the third position in the rankings.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma made a big leap of five places to sixth after amassing 131 runs against Afghanistan then backing it up with an imperious 86 from 63 balls against arch-rivals Pakistan.

Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz — jumping 19 spots to 18th — and Netherlands captain Scott Edwards — climbing 16 places to 27th — made notable surges in the batting rankings.

In the ICC ODI bowling rankings, however, experienced New Zealand pacer Trent Boult is in touching distance to occupy the top spot following a destructive spell against Bangladesh.

He is a mere one rating point behind leader Josh Hazlewood after ascending a place in the latest update.

Boult, who returned figures of 2/45 against Bangladesh after also dismissing Towhid Hridoy, also completed 200 wickets in ODIs.

Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan climbs to fourth in bowling rankings while South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj jumps seven spots to equal fifth alongside Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

Pakistan reclaim top rank in ODIs after South Africa crush Australia

Pakistan men’s cricket team on Sunday, reclaimed the top spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Rankings, following South Africa’s 122-run victory over Australia in the series decider.

Australia, who were at the rankings summit, succumbed to a crushing defeat against South Africa in the fifth ODI of the five-match series, which resulted in them slipping to the third spot with 113 rating points.

India, on the other hand, remained at the second despite their resounding 10-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023.

India and Pakistan are both tied at 115 rating points in the ODI rankings but the Babar Azam-led side has a slight edge in decimal points. Whereas, Australia has 113 rating points, standing at the third.

Notably, India and Australia will have an opportunity to seize the top spot as the two sides will engage in a three-match ODI series ahead of the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023.

The three-match ODI series will commence on September 22 in Mohali, followed by the second ODI on September 24 in Indore while the third ODI will be played at Baroda on September 27.

Pakistan, however, do not have further opportunity to solidify their behold on the ODI ranking summit and will now directly feature in the ICC Men’s World Cup.

The green shirts will start their World Cup campaign against the Netherlands on October 6 in Hyderabad.

It is worth mentioning that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is yet to announce the national team’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.

Shubman Gill moves closer to Fakhar, Imam in ICC ODI Batting Rankings

DUBAI: India’s batting prodigy Shubman Gill climbed two spots and moved within touching distance to Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman in the latest ICC ODI Batting Rankings.

Shubman Gill, who enjoyed an excellent campaign in the three-match ODI series against West Indies, got the reward of his brilliance as the right-handed batter achieved career-high rating points (743) and moved closer to Fakhar and Imam in ICC ODI Batting Rankings.

Fakhar (755) and Imam (745) are ranked third and fourth in the ICC ODI Batting Rankings respectively.

Gill’s fellow Ishan Kishan also jumped nine places to reach 36th rank in the ICC ODI Batting Rankings with 589 points after scoring 184 runs in the series against West Indies.

The recent ICC ODI bowling rankings saw Kuldeep Yadav jumping four places to reach the 10th spot after taking seven wickets in the series against the West Indies.

Meanwhile, Shardul Thakur, who took eight wickets in the series and was the leading wicket-taker in the series, moved up three places to 30th.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya, who led the Indian side in the series rose five places to acquire 11th position in ODI all-rounders ranking.

West Indian players did not enjoy the same success in the ODI series and subsequent gains in rankings as their Indian counterparts, however, they showed good performances in the T20I series and were thus rewarded in ICC T20I rankings.

West Indies explosive batter Nicholas Pooran rose six places to reach the 14th spot in the ICC T20I batting rankings, while Rovman Powell earned the 32nd spot after jumping 17 places.

Meanwhile, pace bowler Alzarri Joseph took a giant stride in the ICC T20I bowling rankings to reach 13th position after climbing 19 spots, whereas left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein rose to the 14th position after jumping six places.

India’s Siraj tops ODI bowling rankings, Gill rises to sixth on batters’ list

DUBAI: Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj claimed the No.1 spot on the ICC ODI bowlers rankings for the very first time following his sensational run in recent home matches against Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

After India topped the ODI team rankings following a 3-0 series sweep over New Zealand, Indian players also made giant strides on the ICC ODI players rankings.

In the latest players rankings update, released by the International Cricket Council on Wednesday, Siraj dethroned New Zealand seamer Trent Boult from the no.1 spot on the ODI bowlers’ list with a narrow lead over second-placed Australia’s Josh Hazlewood

Witnessing a dip in his ratings, Boult went down to the third place with 708 points, while Hazlewood retained his position with only two points behind Siraj’s 729.

Meanwhile, in-form Indian batter Shubmann Gill made a staggering jump of 20 spots to sixth overall on the ODI batters’ list following a spectacular double hundred and a century against New Zealand at home.

Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam, however, continued to rule the ODI batting rankings, followed by South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen and Quinton De Kock on second and third, respectively.

Coming back to Siraj, his remarkable rise in ODI cricket last year also earned him a place in the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year, announced on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old has collected 37 wickets from 20 matches since February 2022, when he returned to India’s ODI set-up after three years hiatus.

Kohli jumps to fourth, Babar retains No.1 spot in ODI Rankings

DUBAI: Star batter and India’s former captain Virat Kohli has improved his rankings on the ICC ODI batter’s list after a phenomenal run in the recent series against Sri Lanka.  

Kohli smashed two centuries while gathering a staggering 283 runs from three innings during the series and climbed two spots to fourth overall with 750 points on the latest ODI batter’s rankings.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam, however, retained his top spot with 887 rating points followed by second-placed Rassie van der Dussen (766) and third-placed Quinton de Kock (759).

With three ODI matches at home against New Zealand, starting today, Kohli has a golden chance to make further leaps on the list.

Meanwhile, other Indian players, Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav were also rewarded for their performances against Sri Lanka.

“Gill hit a century and a fifty during the series and his 207 runs at an average of 69 helped the opener improve 10 spots to 26th overall on the rankings for ODI batters.” said ICC in a media release on Wednesday.

However, Siraj jumped a massive 15 spots to third, with a career-best rating of 685 points, on the latest ODI bowler rankings following his nine wickets in the series. Kuldeep, meanwhile, moved seven places to 21st on the list.

Mohammad Nawaz was the big mover for Pakistan, with the left-arm spinner improving 12 spots to 28th on the list for bowlers after collecting six wickets in the New Zealand ODIs.

Pakistan lose spot to Australia in ODI rankings

DUBAI: Following a resounding 3-0 clean sweep over England, Australia went ahead of Pakistan in the latest ICC ODI team ranking, released on Wednesday, displacing the Green shirts from the fourth position. 

According to the International Cricket Council, Australia were rewarded for their wonderful performance in the recently concluded One-Day series against T20 World Cup champions England, who lost their top spot after a dismal loss.

Australia surpassed Pakistan and equalled points with third-placed India as they surged to 112 rating points. The national team, however, slipped to fifth place with 107 points on the Team Ranking charts.

New Zealand, on the other hand, took the pole position with 114 rating points since England’s ratings dipped to 113 from 119 at the start of the series.

Pakistan climb to third in the latest ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings

DUBAI: Pakistan Men’s National Cricket Team have continued climbing the ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings as the Green Shirts have now occupied third place in the latest rankings.

The Green Shirts, who dethroned India last week to claim the fourth rank in the ODI rankings, have continued to march up as they have now occupied third place in the latest rankings.

Following Australia’s defeat to Sri Lanka by 26 runs in the second ODI of the series, the Kangaroos lost two vital ranking points and allowed Pakistan to dethrone them from the third position.

New Zealand lead the Men’s ODI Team Rankings with 125 rating points, followed by second-ranked England with 124 points. Pakistan, on the other hand, are in third with 106.

It is important to note that Australia still have three matches left against Sri Lanka, and if they win them, they can reclaim the third place.

Pakistan dethrone India from the fourth position in ICC ODI Rankings

DUBAI: Pakistan Men’s National Cricket Team have dethroned India from the fourth position in the International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI Rankings following their clean sweep victory over the West Indies in the recently concluded series.

The Green Shirts, who were placed fifth in the rankings, jumped a spot to surpass India for the fourth position after the series triumph over the West Indies in Multan.

Pakistan were ranked fifth with 102 rating points before the commencement of the home ODI series, however, the clean sweep victory over the West Indies has bolstered them to the fourth position with 106 points, leaving behind India with 105 at the fifth.

In the 50-over format, Pakistan has enjoyed a cherishing couple of years. With the exception of a setback against England away from home, they have faced and beaten all comers, including 2-1 series victories over Zimbabwe and South Africa.

The Green Shirts produced the same results in their historic home series against Australia in April, 2022.

Bangladesh overtake Pakistan in the latest ICC ODI team rankings

DUBAI: Bangladesh has overtaken Pakistan in the latest ICC ODI Team Rankings following the latter’s crushing 88-runs defeat by the hands of Australia in the first ODI of the ongoing three-match series.

Bangladesh, which made history by defeating South Africa at their backyard 2-1 in a three match ODI series have now overtaken Pakistan in the ODI Rankings.

The Tigers have now occupied the sixth spot, while the green shirts have been slipped to the seventh position after suffering a crushing 88-runs defeat against Australia in the first ODI.

However, both teams have the same rating of 93, and Pakistan has two more games to reclaim their lost slot by defeating the Kangaroos.

On the other hand, in the  ICC Men’s Cricket Super League standings, Pakistan are currently in the 11th place with 40 points in 10 matches. Whereas, Bangladesh are leading the table with 120 points.
