Wade, who made his T20I debut in October 2021 against South Africa, went on to represent Australia in 36 Tests, 97 ODIs, and 92 T20Is.

He was also a part of the Australia squad that won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and played a pivotal role in leading his side to their maiden T20 World Cup title, with his match-winning 41-run knock against Pakistan in the semi-final.

Matthew Wade went on to reveal had he scored some runs in this year’s T20 World Cup and helped Australia advance further, things would be different and he would have kept on with his professional career.

“If we went into the last World Cup and I managed to get some runs and we won that, then things would look maybe a little different and maybe I’d keep going,” he said.

“It was just kind of an understanding from all of us.”

The left-handed batter is now set to pursue a career in coaching, set to kick off when he steps in as a coach for Australia’s white-ball series against Pakistan, scheduled to run from November 4 to 18.

“My international retirement and coaching has been a constant conversation with George [Bailey] and Andrew [McDonald] over the past six months. Coaching has been on my radar over the last few years, and thankfully some great opportunities have come my way, for which I am very grateful and excited,” stated Matthew Wade.

Matthew Wade reprimanded for argument with umpire during England clash

Australia’s wicketkeeper batter Matthew Wade has escaped a fine for his heated argument with the on-field umpire during the match against England, however, the International Cricket Council (ICC) handed him an official reprimand on Monday.

Wade was reprimanded over the Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct in the 18th over of Australia’s innings.

The left-handed batter played a delivery from Adil Rashid back to the bowler, expecting the umpire to call it a ‘dead ball.’ However, the umpire did not make the call upon which Wade got furious and argued with umpire Nitin Menon over the decision.

“The wicket-keeper batter was found in breach of Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match,” ICC said in a press release.

“In addition, one demerit point has been added to Wade’s disciplinary record. It was his first offence in a 24-month period.

“On-field umpires Nitin Menon and Joel Wilson, along with third umpire Asif Yaqoob and fourth umpire Jayaraman Madangopal levelled the charge.

“There was no need of a formal hearing as Wade admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.”

Meanwhile, Matthew Wade carried his bat all the way through and returned unbeaten on 17 off 10 deliveries to help Australia post 201-7.

In response, England could only manage 165/6 in the allotted 20 overs despite a strong start.

Australia’s Matthew Wade announces retirement from red-ball cricket

Former Australian Test wicketkeeper Matthew Wade has called time on the red-ball game but will continue playing cricket’s shorter formats.

The 36-year-old made the announcement late Friday ahead of the Sheffield Shield final next week where his native Tasmania meet Western Australia in what will be his 166th and last first-class match.

“I would like to thank my family, my wife Julia, and kids Winter, Goldie, and Duke, for the sacrifices they have made throughout my career, as I travelled Australia and the world as a red-ball cricketer,” Wade said in a statement.

“There certainly isn’t (an element of) ‘I’m not playing well enough or I don’t feel I can contribute enough’,” he said. “It’s more the younger players have managed to shove me out the door.”

Matthew Wade, who played 36 Tests as both a wicketkeeper and specialist batter between 2012 and 2021, will continue to be available for one-day and Twenty20 cricket.

Wade has scored a total of 1613 runs in Test cricket, including four centuries.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenges that the long-form game provides, and although I will continue to play white ball cricket, wearing the Baggy Green while playing for my country remains a highlight of my career.”

“Not playing the longer format of the game will give me an opportunity to get stronger, get in the gym a bit more and have some longevity in that (shorter) format,” he concluded.

Wade stars as San Francisco Unicorns down LA Knight Riders in MLC

DALLAS: Matthew Wade’s swashbuckling 78-run knock powered San Francisco Unicorns to a dominant 21-run victory over the Los Angeles Knight Riders in the eighth match of the Major League Cricket (MLC).

Opting to bat first, San Francisco Unicorns piled up the highest total of 212/7 in the MLC history with opener and wicketkeeper Matthew Wade leading their batting charge with a quickfire half-century.

Unicorns’ opening pair of Wade and Finn Allen scripted a solid start with a brisk 88-run stand.

The stand was majorly dominated by Wade while Allen was rotating the strike before Sunil Narine finally got rid of him in the eighth over to draw a much-needed breakthrough for the Knight Riders.

Allen could score 20 off 19 deliveries, hitting a boundary and two sixes.

Joining Wade at the crease after Allen’s dismissal, Marcus Stoinis added further to the misery of Knight Riders’ bowlers with belligerent hitting.

The Australian pair added 55 runs amid their scintillating partnership before both perished in quick successions as Knight Riders hit back.

Stonis scored a brisk 27 off 18, smashing three boundaries and three sixes while Wade top-scored for the Unicorns. His 41-ball 78 featured seven boundaries and five sixes.

The Unicorns sustained another quick blow to their batting expedition but Corey Anderson’s berserk cameo at the backend lifted them to surpass the 200-run mark.

Anderson scored 39 off 20, laced with three boundaries and as many sixes.

Adam Zampa led the bowling attack for the Knight Riders with 3/41 while Narine, Andre Russell and Ali Khan struck out a batter each.

Set to chase a daunting 213, the Knight Riders fell 21 runs short as they could accumulate 191/5 in the allotted 20 overs despite Jason Roy and Russell’s quick knocks.

Roy gave Knight Riders a flying start to the run chase by charging on the Unicorns right from the start and soon took them past the 50-run mark in the fifth over.

Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf, who went for back-to-back boundaries off Roy, hit back to remove the hard-hitting batter and released the pressure from Unicorns.

Roy scored a dominant 45 off 21 with the help of four boundaries and as many sixes.

Following his dismissal, the Knight Riders began to lose wickets at regular intervals which halted the flow of runs for the visitors.

They had slipped to 116/5 in the 14th over before skipper Narine and Russell launched a counterattack.

The West Indian pair baton charged Unicorns’ bowlers at the backend and glimmered a ray of hope for the Knight Riders to pull off a miraculous victory but came up just 21 runs short.

Russell scored an unbeaten 42 from 26 balls while Narine remained not out with a 17-ball 28.

Shadab Khan led the bowling attack for the Unicorns with 2/26 while Chaitanya Bishnoi, Haris Rauf and Corey Anderson made one scalp each.

Karachi Kings’ Wade sets eyes on next three games after Zalmi defeat

RAWALPINDI: Karachi Kings’ wicketkeeper batter Matthew Wade expressed confidence in his side’s ability to make it to the playoffs, terming the next three matches ‘important’.

Wade, who scored a fighting half-century in the run chase against Peshawar Zalmi, shared his disappointment over failing to finish the game but stated that his side will get another opportunity to bounce back.

“It would have been nice if I had finished the game, that’s our job as a top order player. As I said, the rate was crazy enough high, we need 12 or 13 [runs per over]. I felt like if they gave me the ball up, I would hit areas I thought I could hit and was gonna take it down straight but missed it. That’s kind of the game, it’s T20 and it happens,” said Wade.

“Yeah it is disappointing that I couldn’t go on and pose a bigger score but we’ll get another opportunity in a few days, we have to bounce back, we have to win the next three games and win them well and give ourselves a chance for the finals,” he added.

The wicketkeeper batter then asserted that the Kings’ net run rate in the tournament has the capability of spicing up the race for the playoffs as his side lost their matches by minimal margins.

“We are not playing our best but we’ve been there and there about as we’ve lost by minimal margins and our run rate is probably capable in the tournament at the moment,” shared Wade.

“So, pretty much every game from here, we have to win, let’s how we’re looking at it anyway and if we can bank three, we’ll have the chance to play the finals,” he added.

It is worth mentioning that the Kings slipped to fifth with four points in seven matches in the PSL 8 standings with a narrow 24-run defeat against Peshawar Zalmi.

Kings’ pacer Mohammad Amir’s magnificent figures of 4/26 and Imad Wasim’s gritty 57-run knock went in vain.

The 2020 champions next face Islamabad United on Friday in a must-win clash.
